Lexie's Chain: The Fifth Link

Welcome to week five of da chain an we still goin strong! Oh pals fanx so much for all your briliant entries. I am glad it ain't me to ad to decide, dat all I can say bout it. Dis be such fun!! I dus ope you agree :).

So what woz the suggeschuns and who dus be da winner for dis week, I hear you arks. Ma pal Marfa (who dus be @MarthaTheWestie on twitta) has selected da link dis week coz of bein da winner last week. She said to me dis: "We duz fink you is all very clever anipals and did enjoy choosin. Fank you pop pickers." Heehee "pop pickers".

Ok here we go wiv dus week's suggeschuns, in no particular order:

@Millie_Dog chose Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John. Why? David Bowie mentions red shoes in the song. The video was filmed in Oz. Dorothy from Wizard of Oz wore red shoes and she followed the yellow brick road!

@Marleyterrier chose Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes by Paul Simon. Why? David Bowie did a song called Diamond Dogs.... Diamonds .. Shoes …. I fink you see where we goin wiv dis.

@TheGoBros chose I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles!!!!! Why? Lets Dance wos the first (and only one) of David Bowie's songs to reach #1 on both UK and North American Billboards. I Want to Hold your Hand wos the first of The Beatles songs to reach #1 on UK and NA billboards. Plus, they both English :).

@Borderpup chose Into the Groove by Madonna. Why? Weeeell, cos in the video for Let’s Dance they see the red shoes in a shop window, and they sort of represent a different way of life from the poverty the couple are living in. In the film Desperately Seeking Susan, Susan sees some boots in a shop window and has to have them, so she trades her jacket for them. Roberta is fascinated by Susan's lifestyle and goes to the shop and buys the jacket, and goes on to live in Susan's world. The film made Madonna a star. Her famous song from the film was Into the Groove.

@Maggiekat chose It Takes A Good Woman by The Isley Brothers. Why? Bowie asked Stevie Ray Vaughn to play on his Let's Dance album. Stevie released his first that year as well featuring an Isley Brothers number. I think this song relays the same emotions about love as Let's Dance.

@Kelsoterrier chose Down Under by Men at Work. Why? Let's Dance video is set in Australia, the land Down Under. David Bowie and Men at Work have both been involved in "sampling" scandals - Men at Work "stole" flute riff in Down Under from children's song and Vanilla Ice "stole" riff from Bowie & Mercury's Under Pressure.

@I_Am_Fuzzy chose I'm A Believer - The Monkees. Why? David Bowie changed his name from David Jones because of Mr. Monkee - Davy Jones,

@Oz_theterrier chose The Red Shoes by Kate Bush. Why? Because the song is about red shoes that make you dance, like the red shoes worn in Bowie's Let's Dance video.

@CathyKeisha chose The Angels Want to Wear My Red Shoe by Elvis Costello. Why? "Put on your red shoes and dance" line from Bowie song.

@BVFEYJ chose We Don’t Need Another Hero by Tina Turner. Why? Cuz David Bowie did "Heroes" be4 and did Let's Dance live wif Tina Turner.

@DiamondBertie chose Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen. Why? It’s a song about dancing too!

@Tartan_Terriers chose The Gnome by Pink Floyd. Why? Because Bowie also sang about a Gnome, The Laughing Gnome! BOL!

And the winner ...... as chosen by @MarthaTheWestie and suggested by ...... @Kelsoterrier ....... is ........ Down Under by Men At Work

The year: 1981
The song: (Land) Down Under
Artist: Men At Work

They sure had tuff time of it too and said to me dis: "please tell everyone that they were all great and we wanted to pick them all! (but that wouldnt work, would it?)" Ain't it true tho!!

Ok here we go wiv dus week's suggeschuns:

@RettetKaninchen chose Somebody Outside by Anna Ternheim. Why? In 2005 she covered "When Tomorrow Comes" from Eurythmics. It's on her "Shoreline EP". I picked this song "Better Be" from her album "Somebody Outside" because the song is also about moving on for me.

@CathyKeisha chose Blind Among the Flowers by The Tourists. Why? Because Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart were both in that band before da Eurythmics.

@MarthaTheWestie chose Let's Dance from David Bowie album Let's Dance! Why?
David Bowie Let's Dance album title/track title same as Eurythmics Sweet Dreams track from Sweet Dreams album/track title and also released 1983.

@TheGoBros  chose Raise your Glass by Pink. Why? Cause........the music video for Sweet Dreams features a cow: and so does the music video for Raise your Glass :-p (ok....i know its a weird video, but it's the only one we could find wiph a cow in it!)

@I_am_Fuzzy chose I'm Only Sleeping - The Beatles (a little known group from Liverpool). Why? I need to sleep to dream :o)

@Pasikas chose Superstitious by Stevie Wonder. Why? Stevie played harmonica on There Must Be An Angel. Stevie Wonder is a Rhythm and Blues Legend. Rhythm being the core of Eurythmics.

@TheTwiglet chose For All The Cows by Foo Fighters. Why? Because  Sweet Dreams has cows in the video and dis song bout cows!!

@Kelsoterrier chose Down Under by Men At Work. Why? Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart The Catch and The Tourists - both of which make me think of Cricket and Australia (The Land Down Under). Down Under was a song by Men At Work. Men At Work make things (such as sweet dreams?).

@Millie_Dog chose Pineapple Head by Crowded House. Why? Pineapples are sweet and you dream in your head.

@Diamondbertie chose All I have To Do Is Dream by the Everley Brother. Why? Well it is a song about dreaming too!

@Marleyterrier chose The Tourist by Radiohead. Why? Annie Lennox was in band called The Tourists before dey becomed Eurythmics.

@Oz_theTerrier  chsose Writing on the Wall by Hazel O'Connor. Why? She appeared in a Eurythmics video and her music was released by Invisible Hands Music, of which naming of said company was inspired by original working title of the album on which Sweet Dreams appears.

@Borderpup chose Sweet Dream Baby by Roy Orbison. Why? Just to take fings in a different and praps more internashunal direction and of course those sweet dreams.

@DJladylexie (dat is me heehee)chose Toxic by Britney Spears. Why? Marilyn Manson did a cover of Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. Manson’s version of the song was used in Britney Spears’ world tour called The Circus. Toxic was one of the songs from the Circus Tour.

And the winner ......... as chosen by @Tartan_Terriers  and suggested by @MarthaTheWestie....... is ........ Let's Dance by David Bowie.

The year: 1983
The song: Let's Dance
Artist: David Bowie
