ohhh the last chainy for 2015! Nathaniel Rateliff is a blues, gospel ,soul ,southern rocker, quite the combo of sound. And the vid for this winning tune appears to be set in a prison. Another southern blues rocking band is Alabama Shakes & they want no fighting at that prison or at the end of our year! Looking forward to the chain in 2016. I never heard this song before but is about drinking your life away after a breakup. So dis week I gonna go wiv There's A Tear In My Beer. What I hear you say? Well, alcohol and break ups seem to create sad songs. So here we have a performer who struggled (and lost) is battle wiv alcohol and sung about a break up wiv alcohol in the lyrics! Who dat? Well it is Hank William of course. As an homage to Hank I have chosen TheThe's version of Tear In My Beer from their album Hanky Panky, dedicated to the country singer.

So Lexie you won last week with a song by New Order one of my fave bands. new Order of course were formed following the tragic death of Ian Curtis and the ending of Joy Division. Joy Division have been very influential and much revered of course. Here is probably their best known song Love will Tear us Apart - don't they all look fresh faced in this video. MOrning all well done Briar for last week. We have used Chrissie Hynde as our link for the chain for this week. Chrissie was very briefly married to Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. They have been through a number of incarnations over the years this track is from New Gold Dream an early album which contained a number of their early hits. I have chosen Glittering Prize which has a very 80s video with lots of chiseled jaws. So link is Chrissie to Jim and song Is Glittering Prize by Simple Minds.

So, last weeks winner was a Chrissie Hynde song. She was in a band called The Pretenders. Lots of musicians pretend to be other people - it's called alter egos. I thought about people like David Bowie and Lady Gaga but then I thought about Damon Albarn and his band Gorillaz. Gorillaz are all animated and each character has a back story, Damon voices the singer 2D. They have many songs to choose from and lots of amazing live performances using holograms (check them out) but we chose their first song "Clint Eastwood" especially for the zombie gorillas!

Annuva female singer / song writer who is very active in the animal welfare field is Maria Daines. She be a patron of Doris Banham Dog Rescue wot help pound dogs on kill lists in da UK n find dem spaces at rescues. I wouldn’t be alive today if dey hadn’t stepped in n put me in emergency boarding in kennels when my 7 days were up at da pound cos da local rescue had no space for me. So iz duty bound to pick a songy by her n I chooses “Where Do All The Angels Go”.

Hi Miss Lexie…last week Lady Briar chose a song by Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders….in a rush today the first thing I thought about Miss Hynde was that she used to be married to Jim Kerr of Simple Minds and so…we are hurriedly linking to “Waterfront” by Simple Minds…”come in, come out of the rain” they sang, how appropriate.

Great tune Briar! I try to stay away from repeating an artist but just had to pick this one this week. First ,it has 4 super artists and second because " Love Can Build a Bridge " tells of a love that grows and " You or No One " shows that love between a man and his pup.

Well done Terence with Sir Andrew's "I am the Starlight". The song deals with self realization and striving for the best through adversity. The song that reminds me of finding one's strength is "I am woman" sung by Helen Reddy.

So last week there was lots of reference to starlight in the winning song. We thought about songs with starlight in the lyrics. One that popped into the mind was "starlight starbright" which are lyrics from Joni Mitchell This Flight Tonight and once we thought of that we didn't need to go any further as its a beautiful song so that's our chain link this week This Flight Tonight by Joni Mitchell.

Well done to the super terrier @terenceterrier who won last week with "Starlight" from the musical Starlight Express. The lyrics from Starlight Express were written by Richard Stilgoe. Richard Stilgoe is renowned for being able to make up songs very quickly about anything from Packed lunches to double chemistry with Mr Barkfield. I best remember him making a song about all the items on the Saturday Swapshop board. In the early eighties he was all the quizmaster of a children programme called Finders Keepers which was based on a game of battleships. My linky shall be the song Finders Keepers by the indie rock back You Me at Six. (I would like to apologise in advance as the video uses "Your" when they really mean "you're").

Da only Andrew Lloyd Webber we know is Jesus Christ Superstar but we av listened to lots of Julian Lloyd Webber, researchin we learnt dat Julian's Godfather wuz Herbert Howells whose music we luvs. Howells composed beautiful religious music n our linky is his deeply personal n wonderfully tranquil Requiem, dis wuz composed not fer Jesus but fer his young son. Well as we all dus know Starlight Express dus be abowty trains. Well trains dus go back and forth taking people all over da place. When you is waitin for a train it seems to take a long time to come. Sometimes you be waitin to go to work or to go to a show like Starlight Express and sometimes you dus be waitin to meet someone who is comin to you or bringins you somfink wot is gonna change your life. Madonna of course collaborated with Nile Rogers as both a writer and producer and thinking about that took us in an easy bound to Chic who have been playing all the festivals this summer. So, last week was Madonna with Ray of Light. Madonna worked with producer William Orbit a lot around this time. Planets orbit in space and David Bowie did a lot of stuff about space. David Bowie also started in the 80's film Labyrinth and our favourite bit from that is when Sarah meets the Fireys in the forest. So our pick this week is "Chilly Down" from Labyrinth. (Listen out for Danny John Jules doing vocals).

Well, we thort if der wos rays of light, it must be bright which also means sumthing might be shining bright. And, did you know that Stars dus shine brightly? Well they dus and did you also know that Madonna been singing for ova 30 years? Well she has and so we figures that through dem Rays of Light she must also be counting her Lucky Stars! Madge recorded the song Ray of Light workin wiv english electronic producer and moosician William Orbit. Orbit went on to form the band Torch Song. A torch shines a beam of light too. Torches be pretty handy for seein fings. You can use torches underwater too when you go diving or snorkelling at night. A great place to dive or snorkel wiv a torch is in a lagoon. So we dus be choosing William Orbít's The Last Lagoon.

Well done, Freddy! The instrumental Kraftwerks song about a sporting event put me in mind of another incredible sports related instrumental number. The theme from the movie "Rocky", Gonna Fly Now, was recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra, featuring Maynard on trumpet. How he hits those high notes is beyond me!

Great tune Freddie! Perhaps it is the history major in me but I am always grabbed by dates. Kraftwerk was formed in Dusseldorf in 1970. An extremely tumultuous year, 1970 saw the deaths of Joplin and Hendrix and 4 students at Kent State in Ohio. My choice this week is " Ohio" C,S, N & Y.

Morning all fellow chainees I chose Freddie it appears with Tour de France last week. I have gone for a bicycle theme this week as there are lots of those in the TDF. I have gone for a very important part of a bicycle especially if you are riding at night. That is a Reflector so I have gone for Reflektor by Arcade Fire fresh from their triumph at Glastonbury great video too. have a great week all.

Kraftwerk, Tour De France .. Ok lets fink. Well when cyclists are doin the tour de france their heart rate is very high. Kraftwerk dun a song called Elektro Kardiogramm wot is all about heart beats per minute. So we goin with the heart beat feme with Buddly Holly's Heartbeat.
