Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Seventy Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 174 of #lexieschain. Last week da winner was Maggie wiv Steely Dan and Show Biz Kids. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@djladylexie
Steely Dan were quoted as bein perfect musical antiheroes of the 1970's. So we started finkin bowt heroes and antiheroes which nicely leads to The Stranglers and No More Heroes.

@WOtterface
So last week Maggietkat won with Steely Dan and we started thinking about how Steel is a metal and were thinking of going down the heavy metal route or other bands with metal in their names or songs. But while we were reading Steely Dan's wiki page we saw that one of the members had terrible stage fright and it got us thinking about other artists with stage fright. We did some research and found that Barbara Streisand, Robbie Williams and Adele all suffer with stage fright, as does Brian Wilson. So, we chose the stunningly beautiful "God only knows" by the Beach Boys as our chain for this week.

@freddie_bt
We ad never eard da luvly song Show Biz Kids, our Steely Dan knowledge wuz limited to Reelin in the Years. Anyways we fawt of linkys on da subject of showbiz kids which mostly conjured up ghastly X Factor type images but we also fawt of da Kora player Toumani Diabate who can trace his musical lineage back 71 generations, musician is a herediitary profession in Mali. In da 80s Toumani performed wiv his father, now Toumani n his son Sidiki share da concert stage. In interviews Toumani talks of how he modernised da style of playin n how Sidiki is now doin da same as well as recordin electronic music n bein in a successful Rap duo. Rap in Africa is not about guns n gangs. Da Kora mite be an ancient complex string instrument but its musical style continues to develop fanks to da importance of heritage n parents passin on deir skills n profession to deir kids. So our linky is Toumani n Sidiki Diabate playin a Kora duet.

@claptonterrier
Last week Miss Maggie chose the song “Show Biz Kids” by the great Steely Dan…(I cannot tell you how many times that song has been played here)…..anyhoo, we always thought the song was about rich kids in Hollywood “making movies of themselves” as the song says….so this week we thought about songs by actors….ahem, there is a very rich seam of songs by actors…who probably should have stuck to acting…so this week we have William Shatner singing Pulp’s Common People!! See what I did there?

@terenceterrier
Da winning linkie last week be “Show Biz Kids” by Steely Dan. There haz been lotsa show biz kids in da moosik bizniss. Da family I fort of woz da Jackson Five. Corse da most well known woz Michael. Da linky last week came from da early 70’s so I chooses a linky by Michael from the same time wot be “Ben” ( Also cos I haz a fing abowt ratties. For lexiechainers wot woznt born then Ben woz a film abowt a rat n dis woz da theme toon )

@bunnersndharvs
Well here's to you Maggie fur your eggselent linky and win last week Show Biz Kids. Dad dus love dat Steely Dan and so dus wee but as much as we dus lyke dem we is going wid a funnee/ord linky dis week. Why? Well cos we was thinking about bein in Show Biz and how peeeples in dat buziness dus gets on wid things and well so dus us paws. You know? So, our linky (hee hee) dus be frum Ethel Merman singing 'There's No Business Like Show Business' from da moovie wid dat same title too.

@borderpup
So, how to link from 'Showbiz Kids'? Well, we fort of 'The Kids are Alright' by The Who. They wrote this song when they were just kids themselves, and apparently when they perform it nowadays they add on verses about wot has happened to them over the years, growing up in showbiz. This song has been covered many times by different artists, but here's the original single version.

@skye613
Great tune from Maggie. Awpaws! " Show Biz Kids was written by Donald Fagen & Walter Becker. The song has been covered many times. Rickie Lee Jones did an awesome version. In 1989 Jones released Flying Cowboys which was produced by Walter Becker. My choice this week is " Horses " from this album. This was co- written by Jones & Becker. Enjoy!

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... @maggietkat ...... dus be ......... @WOtterface. Yay! Well done Wyn my pal, annuva great win!! So dat meant you dus be choosin next week!

Ere wot Maggie said: So many good links! I was amazed there wasn't one for Las Vegas (Lost Wages which was the backup singer's refrain). The African music was amazing, Brian Wilson is incredible despite all his issues, can't say enough about Rickie Lee Jones (who isn't the Ricki in the Dan song), and Michael and Ethyl and that great punk number, and William Shatner were brilliant. However, I have to choose Brian Wilson with "God Only Knows" as #1.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 25th May 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!
