Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Seventh Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 187 of #lexieschain. Oh, an remember mum dus be in Ibiza from tonight so service may be slightly erratic ;). So last time was me wiv Parklife from Blur . So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@diamondbertie
First allow me to congratulate you as @djladylexie on winning with the great song Parklife by Blur. I must confess I did not know it but I still enjoyed it.  While on the theme of rest and relaxation Simon and Garfunkels "Feeling Groovy" popped into my head as my choice.

@wotterface
Well done on last week's win with Blur's Parklife. We were watching some live Blur yesterday and we noticed a line about those pigeons you find in a park. There's lots of other birds you find in the park - geese, ducks, swans, sparrows, blackbirds and...Starlings by Elbow.  This is a version at Abbey Road with the BBC concert orchestra.

@skye613
Last week Lexie took us to the park. Another kind of park is a zoo. Zoos are filled with animals in cages and enclosures. Dr. Hook tells us of a tigers lament!

@claptonterrier
Ola.. Miss Lexie….here is my chain entry. Last week you chose a song called ParkLife by Blur. On the cover of that record was, famously, a shot of some greyhounds and the inside of the Parklife album was lots of shots of the band at Walthamstow Greyhound Racing track. Walthamstow is an area of London with the postcode E17 so this week my link is “Stay Another Day” by the band East 17 who came from Walthamstow.

@freddie_bt
Parklife da LP is a gweat celebwation of southern England. Dad grew up in da souf wiv its accents dat you can actually understand n as a teenager he wud escape da confines of his religious school whenever he cud n rush to Brighton fer pubs, Punk Rock, da Mod revival n da cinema where he saw Phil Daniels in Quadrophenia n whose character Jimmy also sped to Brighton fer its buzz. Dad never had a scooter but his Dad wuz a Ford man, not da executive Granada dat Phil Daniels dwives in Parklife but Cortinas MKI n MKII n Dagenham's finest is celebwated in our linky by The Lambrettas a Brighton Mod band wot Dad first saw playin on da back of a lorry on da seafront. Dad fawt da family dwove a pwactical saloon car not a vehicle fer da sort of hanky panky revealed in "Cortina".

@bunnersandharvs
So well dun to dat Lexie fur hur winning linky last week, ParkLife. We wos thinking about playin in da park and how fun it is and dat it makes us feel we living da High Life and dat also got us thinking about your new life too Lexie wid your Mum & Dad and we thort you is back in da High Life doing wot yoo loves in da warta and playing which makes us think of Steve Winwood's songy 'Back in The High Life'. Dis songy about moving on to more funning things which is just lyke you! wE LoVes yOO LeXiE sO gO oN OuT dEr & LiVe iT uP!

@smcheetham
Morning chainees well done Lexie again you are on a roll. There are lots and lots of places to go from Parklife by Blur. The one I have chosen is to use Phil Daniels the actor who guests on Parklife. He is perhaps best known for his role as Jimmy in the film of Quadrophenia. there are lots of great songs on the soundtrack of The Who rock opera but my favourite is 515 so that's the one I have chosen Good luck everyone.

@wonderwinger
Well done Lexie giving us Parklife by Blur. I thought about trying to link with another song about parks or even about dogs in parks. Thinking about dogs in park I thought back to my fond memories of meeting border terriers at tweet ups in parks. My favourite has been the BTGwandDayOwt in Bristol. This then made me think of the brilliant animator who created Gromit. The one and only Nick Park. Nick Park also created one of the best music videos ever made, my link Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.

So da winner as decided by  ................... me dad, the dogfather, dus be .................. @wonderwinger wiv Sledgehammer. Yay! Well done ma pal. You dus be choosin next week.

Ere wot Dad said bowty it: I choose Sledgehamer. It's a superb video and he is a great artist. I liked the way you linked through using parks and dogs too! I loved the other links too - especially the Quadrophenia links. The Steve Winwood number abd Wendy in tears oh dear!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 7th September 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Sixth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 186 of #lexieschain. So last time was Wyn wiv Where's Me Jumper by Sultans of Ping. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well done with the quirky Where's Me Jumper? We loved it! The lyrics about dancing put us in mind of another musician, Frank Zappa. My link is "Dancing Fool".

@skye613
This weeks tune caused much head thumping & paws tapping Wotter, so good on ya! Played with a bunch of lost & found but decided that " I think I found it & I think I love it " What is lost shall be found!

@diamondbertie
Well done @Wotterface winning last week with Where's Me Jumper by Sultans of Ping, hilarious, I loved it. I had to choose another funny song, my mind went straight to Lily the Pink by the Scaffold.This song was based on the Ballard of Lydia Pinkham, she existed as a purveyor of medicinal compounds.

@terenceterrier
I woz proper stumped dis week. I reads dat da name of da band Sultans of Ping FC iz a play on the Dire Straits songy “ Sultans of Swing” . Mark Kopfler woz in Dire straits. So for my linky I gives you him wiv “ Brothers in Arms” . Why dis one? Obvious innit – cos jumpers have arms. And in Tucker’s honour it be a live vershun wiv Eric Clapton frown in.

@freddie_bt
Where's Me Jumper, well I duznt av a jumper, I did av a onesie bawt fer me n I wuz vewy welieved wen dat seemed to get lost. However I duz get vewy cwoss wen pawfectly gud toys are disaappeared jus coz deir stuffin spills out but I is digwessin fwom da task in hand wot is to fink ov a linky. I's not vewy gud at findin fings, pawently deres no finkin or plannin I jus run about madly lukin in da same place so I sympafises wiv da pwedicament dat Wreckless found imself in, fanks to his Mum. Blinkin oomums. Eric adnt actually lost anyfing no he wuz twyin to find someone. Eh? I's confused but opefully you wont be after 3 minutes of Eric's wonderful monotone as he twavels "The Whole Wide World".

@claptonterrier
Miss Wyn chose a song called “Where’s My Jumper”…and it occurred to me that jumpers are usually made from wool…all types of wool….and I am of course made of knitting of the finest mohair wool from the high Himalayas...…so this week my choose is the Knitting Song by Bill Oddie! Yes..that Bill Oddie.

@djladylexie
Hmmm jumpers! Me finkin. Well, jumpers can be used for all kinds of fings like keepin warm, wrappin round your shoulders if you is from the continent or playin golf, and using em for goalposts if you is playin football in the park. Parks are great and full of intrestin people an fings going on … so .. Our linky dus be park life! So here it is Blur an Parklife.

So da winner as decided by Wyn dus be .................. wot! Nooooo!! Not again ... is me! Pfftttt. Ok well dad dus be decidin again.

Ere wot Wyn said bowty it: We're so glad everyone loved Sultans of Ping! All of the links made us laugh with references to losing stuff and knitting and jumpers and onsies and sleeves. But there was only one choice for us that jumped out straight away because it's high energy, Mom is a massive fan and it's where we'd all have fun - Parklife! OI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 31st August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 185 of #lexieschain. So last time was me wiv Whitney Houston and Where Do Broken Hearts go. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@Wotterface
So, last week was a song by Whitney Houston wondering where broken hearts go. We don't know that, we also don't know where anything that's lost is, stuff always gets lost like coins down the back of the sofa, tennis balls float off down rivers (I'm still traumatised by that incident) and people lose jumpers.  So our chain this week is an ode to a lost jumper: Sultans of Ping FC with Where's Me Jumper.

@diamondbertie
Well done winning last week with Whitney Houston singing Where do Broken Hearts Go?
My choice has to be Edith Piaf singing Non, je ne regrette rien it just came into my head
Why? both soul singers, broken hearts go in different directions and the other lady has No Regrets.

@skye613
Great job as always DJ Lexie! A sad week around the world with the passing of Robin Williams. Whitney Houston died Feb 11, 2012, Robin Williams 18 months later on Aug 11, 2014. The words of this Annie Lennox song hit me as I was doing my search for this week. " Dying is easy it's the living that scares me to death." " Cold ".

@smcheetham
Morning all so Lexie won last week with Whitney Houston. We know we should be choosing a bit of Techno if we want to win but sadly we don't know much about that so have gone all mainstream this week. We have used the word Houston to give us the link and there is one very famous musician born in Houston and that's Beyoncé so how about a bit of Single Ladies by Beyoncé.

@freddie_bt
Congwatulashuns on a super win. Bein a deep finkin fur I noticed dat Whitney's surname is da name of a city in Texas, named after da general dat defeated da Mexican army n secured Texan independence. Dis made us fink of Mexican music n musicians wiv places in deir names. Camilo Lara a producer n dj used to put together cds of songs n samples fer fwends n wuz encouraged to release da music. He did so usin da moniker Mexican Institute of Sound. It's witty catchy electronica n "ESCRÍBEME PRONTO" our linky has long bin Dad's ringtone.

@terenceterrier
Larst week da DJ Lady Lexie winned wiv “Where Do Broken hearts go” by Whitney Houston. Whitney woz in da luvvly fillum “The Bodyguard” wiv Kevin Costner and singed track “ I will always love you” wot be one of our favrit songies. But I didna wanna be boring so am still choosing it as my linky but sung by Leona Lewis. In best Tucker tradition this is a live vershun taken from before she winned da X factor n woz super famuss.

@maggietkat
Well done Lexie with Whitney. In honor of Robin Williams and Whitney dieing early, my link is Laura Nyro who also died young from cancer. her song is "And When I die".

@bunnersandharvs
Well is another weeky of Lexie's chainy seleckshun and we says a big well dun to dat Lexie fur her winning choicy by Whitney Houston singing "Where Do Broken Hearts Go'. Dat songy did make us think about Whitney singing 'I will always love you' dat wos written by Dolly Parton. Dolly is rilly good at writing love songys and singing love songys and lyke 'Here You Come Again' which is also about tryin to get ova someone wot keeps coming back so dat our linky dis week.

@claptonterrier
I see that you won with a song called “Where do broken hearts go?”…well, I don’t know where they go but I do know that another place that hearts have been found in music is at the “Dark End of the Street”….my choice this week is a version of that song by The Commitments…its a song about cheating on a loved one…so perhaps that is where the broken heart started its journey….

Ere wot Dad said bowty it: Very difficult as usual! The one that made me laugh out loud, an inspired link, was Sultans of Ping FC with Where's Me Jumper. Well done to that chainer. Close second was Cold by Annie Lennox and I liked the tributes to Robin Williams. Very sad.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 24th August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 184 of #lexieschain. So last time was  Terence wiv Dionne Warwick an Heartbreaker. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@djladylexie
Dionne Warwick was very famous singer with famous family connections. Most famously, her aunt was Cissy Houston, mother of the great singer who tragically died from drugs, Whitney Houston. Whitney was Dionne's cousin. Whitney was a very bootiful woman and was quite a 'heartbreaker' in her day. So, we go wiv Whitney Houston and Where Do Broken Hearts Go .. A family link related to affairs of the heart.

@diamondbertie
Last week that clever Terence Terrier won with Dionne Warwick singing Heartbreaker, that was a link which gave me loads of ideas, well I settled for Cilla Black singing Anyone Who Had a Heart, this was also a song Dionne Warwick sang.

@skye613
Well this may be a bit of a stretch BOL. Great song from Dionne Wawick, Terence! Dionne was born in Georgia but grew up in New Jersey with her musical family. Many wonderful musicians call New Jersey home. Over 100 can say they have been part of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes! My pick this week " Fever " cause Hearts that are broken can cause fever!

@maggietkat
Well done Terence with Dionne Warwick and Heartaches. Dionne was a featured singer for Hall David and Burt Bacharach. Many other artists recorded their songs. Staying with the heartache theme, my link is the Fifth Dimension singing a Bacharach song "One Less Bell to Answer".

@Wotterface
Last weeks winner was a sing by the lovely Dionne Warwick. One of her other songs was "Walk on By" so we've gone with walking as a theme. Now something you certainly couldn't "walk on by" is a dinosaur (there's a dinosaur obsession in our house right now) so we've chosen "Walk the Dinosaur" by Was (Not Was). We think you'd run on by if you saw a dinosaur!

@freddie_bt
Super winner fwom Terence, we adore Dionne Warwick's voice. Fer our linky we fawt bout heartbreaking n dat da opposite mus be a lasting n passionate love. Our other favwite female Soul singer wuz Minnie Riperton n Loving You, er most successful single, is about her love fer er husband n also shows er remarkable vocal range. It's beautiful n passionate.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Terence ......... dus be ......... on gawd! Is me again wiv Whitney Houston and Where do broken hearts go.So it's down to the dad.

Ere wot Terence said bowty it: Wez listened to all of dem now. Dere woz lots we like but Iz chosen linky 1 wot be Whitney Houston and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 17th August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 183 of #lexieschain. So last time was Freddi wiv Char Bradley and Heartaches and Pain. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@Wotterface
So, last week was two Charles Bradley tracks. Charles started out impersonating his hero, James Brown and also performed funk music. Someone else who had studied their hero was John Frusciante. He was a massive fan of the band the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who play FUNK rock) and, when guitarist Hillel Slovak died of a drug overdose, he replaced him playing lead guitar in the band. He then went on to develop his own style and wrote new material with the band, as a solo artist and with other projects. Unfortunately he too fought his own drug demons and battled with the massive success of the band. He left and was then replaced by Josh Klinghoffer. The song we have chosen is from their most recent album from 2011, the first album Josh played on. It wasn't a single but is a lovely tribute to an old friend of the band. Brendan's Death Song...

@maggietkat
Well done Freddie! I had never heard of Bradley's label, Daptone Records. I saw that Amy Winehouse recorded Back to Black and that song mentions Donny Hathaway. One of my favorites from his solo efforts is "You've got a friend".

@diamondbertieLast winner chosen by @maggietkat was @freddie_bt with Charles Bradley and Heartaches & Pain followed by No Time forDreaming, this is a wonderful soul singer with a great voice. My choice is another soul singer with a lovely voice Sam Cooke singing Chain Gang.

@terenceterrier
Last ol’ cleva clogs Freddie wun wiv “Heartaches and Pain” performed Charles Bradley and the Menashan Street Band . Trying to do a linky wiv da name got me nowhere cos when trying to link da name I could only come up wiv Bradley Wiggins who hassnt made a record. So I goes back to da title and finks dat if you haz heartaches n pain you musta met a heartbreaker. So my linky be Dionne Warwick wiv “ Heartbreaker”.

@skye613
A beautiful painful song " Heartaches and Pain " well done Freddie. This made me think of all the music that finds it's roots in anguish. And an equal amount that is born from the beauty in the world. This is the last public appearance of Eva Cassidy. She died 2 months after performing " What a Wonderful World "

@bunnersandharvs
So we on to anudder linky from Freddie wot be so cleva wid his winna last week from Charles Bradley's Heartache and Pain. We did think about dat songy and specially cos of wot happened to Meg da BT dis week and we says dat through all the heartache and pain you gots to be strong and we knows that love is the only way. So, dat means we going with a simples linky by Des'ree 'You Gotta Be'. Why? Cos you gots ta be stronger and knows that Love will save the day. Have fun choooosy choosing da winner dis week, Freddie!

@djladylexie
We's followin da feem of fame and fortune and amazing performers. Our choice was a true performer to the end and did achieve fame and fortune. However, his life was sadly cut short by AIDS. He was the first major rock star to die from AIDS and was probably one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. We are talkin about Freddie Mercury of course. So, our linky dus be to a man who, was a consumate professional to the end, adored by millions, Queen's Radio Ga GA from Live Aid.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Freddie ......... dus be ......... @terenceterrier wiv Dionne Warwick and Heartbreaker. Your turn next week Tel. ;)

Ere wot Freddie said bowty it: Dis is difficult. I likes all da linkys but in da end it came down to a choice between linky 4 n 6, number 6 is a sad reminder of jus wot awful fings can appen but after much deliberating we av chosen linky 4 Dionne Warwick as we av always luvd er voice.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 10th August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).
