Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twenty Fifth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 225 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Wyn wiv I Want My MTV from Dire Straits. Let's see wot we dus gotted dis week!

@kelsoterrier
Money for Nothing is a great song written from the perspective of a store clerk watching all the stars on MTV and commenting that it's not proper work and they get their money for nothing. You do usually have to work for your money but, thankfully, our benefit system lends a helping hand if you find yourself in Dire Straits and losing your job. In 1978 you had to fill in form UB40 to claim your unemployment benefit and the band of the same name wrote a song about the local workforce claiming unemployment benefit in the West Midlands in the summer of 1981 which was called "one in ten" which is my link for the week.

@maggietkat
Well done Wyn with "Money for Nothing". mark Knopfler is an accomplished musician, penning compositions and producing records. One of Mark's musical influences was Django Reinhardt, an incredible guitarist. Although I wouldn't call Reinhardt the "sultan of swing", his compositions and techniques significantly contributed to jazz. His violinist Stéphane Grappelli shares the stage in "Minor Swing".

@terenceterrier
Larst week Wynters winned (finally!) wiv “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits. Some peeps wot want munney for nuffin are bank robbers. Dey must be in dire straits to do summat nawty like dat. Some famuss 1930’s American bank robbers were Bonnie & Clyde. So for my linky I gives you da “Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde” by Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames. Dis linky gives yoo da real historical piccies of dem rather than piccies from da 1967 Hollywood film wiv Warren Beatty n Faye Dunaway.

@djladylexie
Money for Nuffin By Dire Straits. 'I want my, I want my MTV' is the openin lyrics wot was sung by Sting from The Police. If you listen closely you can hear that Sting used the same melody as 'Don’t' Stand So, Don't Stand so close to me'. In this song a teacher falls in love with a young student. The song refers to the book Lolita by Nabokov. So me linky this week dus be about age gaps but me turnin it around and offering up Mrs Robinson wot dus be a young man wot gets seduced by an older woman! So me gives you Mrs Robinson and Simon and Barfunkel.

@skye613
May be to late but .... Wyn did win with Money For Nothing. Great tune. So to get some noms for this crew I say " Take The Money and Run " Have a great week pals!

An the winner as chosen by Wyn dus be ........................... oh .................. is me again! Pfftttttt. Err ... dad ....................... me got somfink to ask you heehee!

Ere wot Wyn said: Well, lots of great songs this week but I'm going to pick link number 4. Two reasons, first of all we never realised it was the same melody but as Don't Stand So Close To Me. And secondly because "Barfunkel" made me laugh out loud.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 31st May 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twenty Fourth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 224 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was me wiv Walk The Line from Johnny Cash. Let's see wot we dus gotted dis week!

@maggietkat
Well done Lexie with "I walk the Line" from the movie with the same name. I am a confirmed fan of Ira and George Gershwin who wrote many love songs.. I saw "Embraceable You" performed by a Broadway star in local summer stock theater. It was so full of emotion about love that I chose it for my link.

@diamondbertie
You clever girl winning last week with Johnny Cash singing I Walk The Line, I love that song.
PJ Proby also sang it so my choice this week is Heartbeat sung by PJ Proby

@wotterface
Last week's winner was you with a Johnny Cash song. So, Cash is otherwise known as money. Now, being a dog, I don't understand anything about wages and earning and money so I'd like to get money for nothing and my noms for free so this week's choice is Dire Straits and Money For Nothing.

@terenceterrier
Larst week Lexie wonned wiv “I Walk The Line” by Johnny Cash. Da record by JC wot always make me laff iz “A Boy Named Sue” . Wiv a name like dat he spent his life telling peeps “I’m a Man” . So for my linky dis week I gives yoo a live vershun ( Tucker style ) of The Who performing dat songy cos it much better than da original track on da My Generation LP.

@borderpup
Last week's winning song was 'I Walk the Line' by the pawsome Johnny Cash. Now, if you watch these shows about motorway cops, you see that in America if they suspect the driver has been drinking they put him through some sobriety tests, including walking in a straight line. He should be able to do this if he is sober! So my linky is 'Milk & Alcohol' by Dr Feelgood.

@cloonfourmegan
Walk the Line was sung by Johnny Cash. We fink cash is important but not as important as other fings like love. So we pick My Love Don't Cost A Thing by Jennifer Lopez as the linky.

@skye613
DJ Lexie did win & the Dad be choosing! Well done pals. Johnny was walking the line. There are many types of lines, a queue , a clothes line , a line of coke or the reins of a horse. Goldfrapp grabs the reins and rides a white horse. Have a great week chainy friends!

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…..last week you chose a song called Walk the Line by Johnny Cash….it is a song about a man always doing there right thing to keep his love…well, this made me think about another song about lines which definitely don’t need to be followed….it is White Lines (Don’t Do It)…by Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel….this is a song about the perils of cocaine (snorted in lines)…definitely not a line to walk….

@sonikebt
Well done Lexie for winning last week's link. We are specially pleased as it give us a chance to link to our most fav song ever. So while Johnny Cash did "Walk the Line", The Blue Nile "Walked across the Rooftops". Our link this week, from that album, is the wonderful "Tinseltown in the Rain" by The Blue Nile.

An the winner as chosen by me dad dus be ........................... Wotterface (Wyn). At last! Well done me pal!

Ere wot me dad said:  Kifinti (that's hello in Maltese) England! Well, this is hard I must say. All great links. I like the logic of the money link so I'm going with Dire Straits and Money for Nothing. Well done ... and goodnight England!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 24th May 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twenty Third Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 223 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Briar wiv Ben E King and Stand By Me. Let's see wot we dus gotted.

@sonikebt
Well done @wonderwinger for winning with Ben E King's "Stand by Me". Standing by people, peacefully, to create a fair & equal society for all is important given the result of #GE2015. So my linky this week is "I dreamed a dream" from Les Miserables.

@terenceterrier
Da bootiful supermodel Briar winned larst week wiv her linky “Stand by Me” by Ben E King n pals Eric C n Phil C. If sumwun is standing by yoo den probs dey are very impawtant in yor life and yoo could say yoo needs dem to get by in life. So my linky dis week is “ You’re all I need to get by” . . I chooses da Cat and Budgie vershun but Iz told dere a vicious rumour circulating dat dey miming to Marvin Gaye n Tammi Terrell . Phew I been waiting weeks to be able to use dis as a linky. I also deddykaytes it to da judge.

@wotterface
Last week's winner was Briar with Stand By Me. Stand By Me is also the name of a brilliant film with a brilliant soundtrack. So I've picked my favourite track from that soundtrack Lollipop by The Chordettes. Pop! Bu bum bum bum...

@skye613
This week my linky is " You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin". On March 25, 2015 Ben E. King's song " Stand by Me " was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry . Also inducted was this tune. Along with The Doors first album & among others Joan Baez first album. Super selections to Stand by Ben E King.

@djladylexie
Stand By Me was also the name of a movie wot had the song in it. The movie starred River Phoenix. River Phoenix's bruffa is Joacquin Phoenix who has had a great movie career. One such movie was Walk The Line about Johnny Cash. SO I gowin wiv Walk The Line from da movie of the same name.

An da winner as chosen by Briar ................... be ............................ me! Oh ... well it has been a while! Oh noes wot I gonna dus!?? Dad be in Malta so I'll have to dus it next week.

Ere wot Briar said: My winner is linky number 5, I liked the Phoenix brother movie link and Walk the Line was also another brilliant film. My second place is linky number 2, as a star of the small screen myself I love a good advert.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twenty Second Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 222 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Skye wiv Tide is High from Blondie. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well done Terence with Beach Boys' "Surfin' USA". Brian Wilson was an innovative composer who influenced his contemporaries as well as current bands. There was a friendly rivalry between the Beatles and the Beach Boys with each band influencing the other. Brian experimented with unusual instruments such as the Thermin. The Beatles incorporated sitar into their compositions. it is said that "Norwegian Wood" was written using Brian's chord progressions.

@diamondbertie
my choice for this weeks link is the theme tune of Hawaii five O , I alway think of surfing when I hear that, it was appropriate to go with the Beach Boys Surfing  USA.

@kelsoterrier
Love Surfin' U.S.A., such a happy summery song. Surfing seems energetic though, I prefer UK seaside activities such waking barefoot on the beach in the sun maybe taking in a Punch & Judy show for entertainment...ahh, Summertime. So what beach link could possibly spring to mind? Well only the aptly named barefoot pop princess of the 1960s Sandie Shaw of course! And what song? Well it is Eurovision soon and sticking to the Punch & Judy theme it has to be the Eurovision winning Puppet On A String.

@wonderwinger
Woo hoo for Terence for winning last week with Surfing USA by the Beach Boys. When you walk along a beach sometimes you see driftwood washed up by the waves. Lots of pieces of driftwood could collectively be called "drifters". Coincidentally,  Ben E King, who died this week, was the lead singer of the band "The Drifters". However, he will always be best remembered for my linky "Stand by Me". I particularly love this live version for the joie de vivre of Ben E King & Eric C's little guitar solo.

@wotterface
Last week's winner was Terence with the Beach Boy's surfin USA. I did some research and am ashamed to say I never realised it was written to the tune of Chuck Berry's Sweet Sixteen! So I got thinking about songs that sound like other songs. Like that awful Blurred Lines and Marvin Gaye. So I came across Lady Gaga's Born This Way, an anthem to being yourself and independence. It's very similar to Madonna's Express Yourself both musically and thematically. So I've gone with Madonna's  Express Yourself (mind the stairs Madge!).

@sonikebt
Last week's winner was @terenceterrier with Surfin USA by the Beach Boys. The Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds" was the inspiration for the Sgt Pepper album says Paul McCartney. So our link this week is "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles.

@djladylexie
Surfina USA from Beach Boys eh? Well thems is very well known for their californian style and laid back approach to life. California is well know for its migration of hippies from all over da world for its relaxed approach to life. Course the most famous hippy fing wot ever appened was Woodstock what was a moosical spectacle that all other festivals av tried to replicate over the years all over da world too. Woodstock was billed as An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music. It became known as the Age of Aquarius. So that's our linky. This is the dawning of the age of aquarius! Peace man :).

@claptonterrier
Last week Sir Terence won with Surfin USA by the Beach Boys….that reminded us of the finest film of all time, Point Break starring Keanu Reeves (watch it, you won’t be disappointed). The film is set in sunny California and there was a small cameo in the movie by Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers…so this week, our link is Californication by the RHCP.

@skye613
Everyone knows that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was a major influence on countless musicians. But who influenced him you ask? Well that would be Phil Spector and his Wall Of Sound. A technique that was developed by using large numbers of instruments playing in unison. The best example of this according to Spector  is " River Deep Mountain High" which he produced for Ike & Tina Turner. Know this is old & not good quality but it has the intro. Priceless !!

@bunnersandharvs
So dat Terence did a supa linky last week wid da Beach Boys, Surfing USA. We says if you going Surfin den you must go all da time so dat makes you a Beach Baby! So get your paws a tapping cos our linky dis week is 'Beach Baby' by First Class. Have fun chooosin da winna, Ter!

@shaynacat
The sound of the Beach Boys' Surfin' USA immediately conjures up so many lovely pictures - a perfect summer's day, with huge ocean waves crashing on a golden beach, palm trees swaying in the breeze, lean, tanned surfers riding longboards, barreling the left at Pipeline... And Brian Wilson wrote the song, right?  Wrong. The songwriting credit (and the royalties) go to Chuck Berry, whose Sweet Little Sixteen was reworked by Brian into the song we know and love so well!

An da winner as chosen by Terence be ............................ @wonderwinger Briar! Yay! Well done me pal. You choosin next week.

Ere wot Terence said: Dey werkin a poor terrier overtime dis week. 11 cleva linkies ! So I decides to be syentiffik or summat like dat. 50% marks for supa cleva linky, 40% marks for luvvly songy, 10% marks for personal favrit songy or artistes. So afta running da marks froo Hal da Poota  he coffs up da result n da winning linky be numba 4 but wiv linky 7 a very close second. Iz goin for a laydown afta all dat effort

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 10th May 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!
