Well done Lexi with Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. I got thinking about mascots and realized that many are animals. Eric Burden was to obvious, so I thunk some more. Animals can be pets. Aha! Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys (so named because the music was Brian's "pet sounds" he was experimenting with not to mention LSD). Our boy has just discovered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon thanks to his physics teacher (apparently all physics teachers like this album). So this got us thinking about bands who have made concept albums & one of our favourites from 70's era was Genesis. Our link this week is our most favourite Genesis song - " Follow You Follow Me"

Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss SKye won with the Sound of Silence….when looking at this song we noticed that it was no.1 in the American charts on 1 January 1966 …which was the year that my ancient typist was born…so our link this week is the song that was no.1 in the American charts on the last day of 1966…I’m a Believer by The MOnkeess.

Wow what a song! That has totally changed my view of that songy. Well anyway, let me find a linky. Disturbed I read has a mascot called The Guy, originally just a drawing of a face with a large grin. That got me finkin, wot uvva bands as ad a mascot.

I fink ma most favourite as got to be Pink Floyd wiv the pig wot first appeared around 1977 when Floyd begain their In The Flesh tour. Pig also appears in The Wall concerts and I am choosing annuva dark (to me anyway) song from The Wall, This has also been covered by others. Comfortably Numb.

Neil Diamond sung the original and UB40 sang it too with their unique reggae sound. UB40 were formed by the Campbell brothers. They were sons of folk musician Ian Campbell who was a Scottish folk singer. His band were cunningly entitled the Ian Campbell Folk Group. A member of the group was Dave Swarbrick, one of the world's most well done fiddle players. A famous session musician in his own right, Swarbrick worked on many Fairport Convention albums. I'm choosing a song from Sandy Denny their lead singer Where The Time Goes in honour of the fallen of 9/11. Rest in peace.

Dave Stewart, inspired by the performances of U2 & Talking Heads, wanted to write a song which could be performed in an arena setting. The Eurythmics made the crossover to arenas & Missionary Man went on to win a Grammy for Best Rock Performance. last week Miss Skye won with “Son of a Preacher Man”…so this week we are offering up a song by some actual sons of a preacher man….the band consists of three Followill brothers (and a cousin) who grew up in Oklahoma and Tennessee with their father, Ivan Leon Followill, a United Pentecostal Church preacher. According to Rolling Stone magazine, "While Ivan preached at churches and tent revivals throughout Oklahoma and the Deep South, the boys attended services and were occasionally enlisted to bang on some drums”. Katy Perry rose to fame on the tide of her first hit " I Kissed a Girl". After trying to be the next Amy Grant, Katy took her music to another genre. One would wonder what her parents thought as they are both preachers. Dusty Springfield sang about parents & preachers also. In 1999 Dusty  was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Melissa sang her most famous " Son of a Preacher Man".

It's a clip of the start of the movie The Best Of Men, this is the true story of Ludwigg Guttman who was the founder of the Paralympics This brilliant man refused to treat these damaged men as right offs. We are ending the Olympics and in a few days there are the Paralympics.

Well done with Katy Perry and Firework. I love fireworks so I thought I would go with the light.  Sometimes there are fireworks that are gorgeous but the contrast between the brilliance and dark sky hurts your eyes.  Thus, my choice this week is "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann.

Sausages is one of the many ingredients in a full english breakfast wot english people like to eat. English people especially like to eat this breakfast when they is on holiday, even more when they is on holibobs in the Costa Del Sol wot we calls Spain.
