Lexie's Chain: The Ninety-Eighth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 98 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to @kelsoterrier to choose. Last week we did av Steppenwolf and Magic Carpet Ride. Let's see wot happened this week!

@rettetkaninchen
it'S fantastic that Hesse came up. So I got the chance to introduce one of my fav bands. My suggestion: Not just Steppenwolf got their band name from Hermann Hesse's book. In the book is says at one page:

"Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung!
Magisches Theater
Eintritt nicht für jedermann
Nur für Verrückte
Eintritt kostet den Verstand"
("Anarchistic evening entertainment!
Magical theater
entrance is not for everyone
only for the insane
entrance costs sanity"

That inspired some Belgian guys to call their band "Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung" (short: DAAU). Their songs kick ass and my choice is an instrumental song that causes the listener to lose a bit of sanity!

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner was Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet.
I keep to the magic theme by choosing Nina and Fredrick's Puff the Magic Dragon.
I defy anyone to listen to this and not think of lost innocence and past childhood with the magic that surrounded it.

@bunnersandharvs
So as we be bee bopping to Kelso's teerifico selecshun from Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet it do be getting us to think bowt magic thingys. So we says if you do magics you would be saying things like abracadabra! So dis den be our linky Abracadabra by da Steve Miller Band.

I gonna reach out and grab ya...

@rosieterrier
Wowsers, well dun Kelso. Is Kelso-Briar dominating da chainy, dey just too good. Dis week my link do be 'Old Fashioned Girl' by Eartha Kitt. Why? Well..... A lyric in Magic Carpet Ride referred to a fantasy, this made me think of 'Let me be your Fantasy' by Baby D. Now Ms Eartha Kitt was the original singer of 'Santa Baby' and also sang my wonderful choice. :-D

@djladylexie
Well dun Kelso. This week I going for Riders on the Storm by The Doors. I taking your linky Kelso wiv da Steppenwolf bookiewook. This was made into a film which starred Max Von Sydow. He was also in da movie Dune where he played Liet Kynes, secret leader of the fremen. Fremen were desert people and rode the sandworms of Dune. Magic carpets are believed to carry you across the desert like riding a sandworm. Deserts are known for their fierce sandstorms too. The leader of the fremen became Paul Atreides. Paul Atreides was played by Kyle MacLachlan. Kyle MacLachan was also in the film about The Doors.

@borderpup
Wow, this week we has to link to Steppenwolf and Magic Carpet Ride. Okey dokes .... Steppenwolf was a band from Canada, near where our pal @zoetheborder dus live. Members of da band did come from earlier bands inclooding The Sparrows and The Mynah Birds. Neil Young was one of the other members of the Mynah Birds, and he went on to form Buffalo Springfield who had a hit wiv a great song, For What It's Worth. In this fillum you can see Mr Young sporting mahoosive sideburns which were mebbe an inspirayshun for Bradley Wiggins ;o)

@wonderwinger
Clever Kelso gave us a Magical Carpet Ride last week so i was thinking if you're on a magic carpet you're Up, Up and Away: a beautiful song by The 5th Dimension. However what if whilst you're gliding along up and away in the sky and you bump into a cloud? Someone might have call to say: Hey, hey you... You get off of my Cloud; a super song by the Rolling Stones and my link this week.

@bvfeyj
Last week Kelso did win wif excellent choice of Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride”. Dis was ob course big hit for Stepenwolf, but not as big as “Born to Be Wild” which was dey biggest hit and was in da mobie Easy Rider. Now Easy Rider featured anuvver song “The Pusher” which was also performed by Steppenwolf but dat was written by Hoyt Axton. Hoyt Axton wrote lots ob songs dat was made hits by uvver peoples, including Three Dog Night and eben Elvis. (Be patient... I getting to da linky!) One ob the first ob dese songs- from his first album which was recorded at the famous Troubador- was a folk song called “Greenback Dollar" dat was a hit in 1963 for da Kingston Trio (here da linky!) Me gib you The Kingston Trio singing Hoyt Axton’s song “Greenback Dollar".

@marleyterrier
I see that Kelso be chosen a song called Magic Carpet Ride. I been asking people if they ave ever been on a magic carpet and they all did say no except for when the was very small and they went to the fair to go on rides and eat toffee apples. So I do be choosin the tiny little magic carpet ride song….Helter Skelter by the Beatles…

@terenceterrier
Kelso’s winnin linky woz “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf. Da lyrics menshun Aladdin’s lamp. Dis makes me fink of the Disney film “Aladdin” cos he had a magic carpet to ride arfta using a wish granted by the genie of the lamp. Aladdin’s theme from the soundtrack woz “A whole new world” sung by Brad Kane & Lea Salonga so dis be my linky.

@patchdacat
Kelso’s winning link was “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf. Four of this band were previously in a group called The Sparrows. Sparrows are lickle birds.
Steppenwolf took part in a number of Pop Festivals including Newport 68, Miami 69, California 69, Bath 70. The only other band also present at these (and with a feathered link) was The Byrds. So for my linky I choose one of their best known records – The Byrds cover version of Bob Dylan’s “Mr Tambourine Man” . In the lyrics of this song there is a “magic swirling ship” to travel on where as in previous linking there was a “magic carpet” So magic travel abounds in the linkies too.

An the winner dis week .... as chosen by @kelsoterrier  ... dus be ..... @patchdacat wiv Mr Tambourine Man from The Byrds. Yay! Well done Patch. Oh, Indy was a close second, as Kelso loves dat song.

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Kelso!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 2 December 2012. Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Ninety-Seventh Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 97 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Briar - @wonderwinger - to choose. Last week we did av Inspiral Carpets and This Is How It Feels. Let's see wot happened this week!

@rettetkaninchen
"This is how it feels" is a song on the negative impact of unemployment. But there is another side, especially when you are young. That's what Emiliana Torrini's song "Unemployed in Summertime" is about. It made me spending all of my money for a trip to London - to walk up Primrose Hill and partying in Soho. It was a terrific summer!

@tartanterriers
We goin wif April fool by Manchester orchestra. The Inspiral carpets and tons of cool bands are from Manchester..We think its a cool name for a band even if they are from Atlanta and not Manchester!

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner by Inspiral Carpets was a song about depression and great loneliness, I never heard it before but after hearing it a few times it grew on me. My choice is Roy Orbison's Only the Lonely Mr Orbison certainly knew about sadness and loneliness and it comes across with this song.
AND

@bvfeyj
Well done fur @wonderwinger! In “This Is How It Feels” by Inspiral Carpets dey does sing “So this is how it feels to be lonely” so dey would know how Roy Orbison feels cuz “Only the Lonely (Know How I Feel)”. Dis was Roy’s first big hit and was 30 years before Inspiral Carpets charted wif “This Is How It Feels”.

@marleyterrier
Ello for you. I see that Briar did be chosen a song by Inspiral Carpets and that they was named after a shop on da estate where they was livin. Bands is called after all sorts of places and things - lots is named after cities and stuff, but this be no place for songs by Boston or Kansas…*shudders* - but not many is named after shops. Owever, one band did ave a band named after them….All Saints, wot wiz a girl band but now is a fashun shop for clothes an stuff. So this week we is chosen Pure Shores by da band All Saints…

@patchdacat
The winning linky we have to follow is “This is how it feels” by Inspiral Carpets. The words of the songy are about someone feeling lonely. So I looks for a linky on this theme and choose “Only Lonely” by Bon Jovi. The lyrics of both songs are about discordant relationships and touch on theme of psychological hurt & domestic violence. The Inspiral Carpets were formed in 1983. Bon Jovi were also formed in 1983.

@terenceterrier
Arfta doin a spot of research I finds that there woz a diffrunt songy wiv the title “This is how it feels”. This vershun woz by The Veronicas. I readz that dey are releasing an album next year called “Life on Mars” which leads me nicely to my linky “Life on Mars" by David Bowie.

@borderpup
This week we had to link to This is How it Feels by the Inspiral Carpets. Hmm, tough one. The Inspiral Carpets are from Manchester and were part of that whole music scene in the early 90s. Lots of good groups to choose from there! However, we choose More than a Feeling by Boston. Why? Because, well, er, it refers to feeling in the title *clutches at straws* and also both bands were named after places - Inspirals were named after a carpet shop, and Boston were name after - er - Boston! I'll get my coat ....

@kelsoterrier
Last week we had This Is How It Feels by The Inspiral Carpets. This Is How It Feels is quite a dark song when you listen to the lyrics and touches on the subjects of loneliness and suicide. Steppenwolf is the title of a book by Hermann Hesse that also tells quite a dark story of loneliness and suicide. Carpets generally don't Inspire but a carpet that might be inspirational is a Magic Carpet! Steppenwolf (group named after the book) sang a song about a Magic Carpet Ride and that is my link for this week.

@djladylexie
Urban miff has it dat Inspiral Carpets took their name from a shop. I'm going wiv shop as ma linky dis week. So Inspiral Carpets took their name from a shop. The Pet Shop boys also refer to shop in their band name. The Pet Shop Boys covered an Elvis song - Always On My Mind. Dis is a song Elvis wrote for Priscilla Presley after they sepriated. Their daughter was Lisa Marie Presley. Lisa Marie Presley recently admitted to working in a mobile fish & chip shop to help some friends out. Ironically, Kirsty MacColl wrote the song There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop (Swears He's Elvis). So my link dis week is Kirsty MacColl and There's A Guy.

An the winner dis week .... as chosen by @wonderwinger ... dus be ..... @kelsoterrier wiv Steppenwolf and Magic Carpet Ride. Yay! Well done again Kelso. An awesome come-back i finks.

You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 18 November 2012. Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain: The Ninety-Sixth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 96 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to ma dad to choose. Last time was Oasis wiv Fade In-Out. Let's see wot happened this week!

@bunnersandharvs
So well dun to clevah paws Lexie w her win last week w Oasis! Yay!! So if I was to follow on w da linky frumm Oasis 'Be here now' I would say if you can't be here now den how about tomorrow so dis is my linky 'Maybe Tomorrow' by Stereophonics. Cause not only dus it follow frum today, da Stereophonics was influenced by Oasis and well so it follers on frum der and means dat is my linky fur my pals dis week!

@diamondbertie
We thought of Ebb Tide by Santon and Johnny and ebb tide goes in and out - reference to the slide guitars is taken by the instruments.

@terenceterrier
Winning linky to follow was Fade In-Out by Oasis. An oasis iz an island within the desert which put me in mind of da fillum “Lawrence of Arabia” wiv Peter o’Toole (wiv da luvvly blue eyes). Oasis lads Liam & Noel Gallaher had Irish parents & were born in the norf of England. Peter o’Toole had Irish parents and was born in norf too. So my linky be da fillum theme toon.

@patchdacat
To follow from Fade In Out by Oasis my linky for this week is Not Fade Away by the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones were one of the groups that Oasis say they were influenced by.

@bvfeyj
Lexie did gib us Fade In-Out by Oasis (and a brilliant linky it was!). Me hab less brilliant and not bery politically correct linky. Oasis make me fink ob Midnight at the Oasis by Maria Muldaur for obvious reason, but dat line about “send your camel to bed” remind me ob da famous Clyde ob Ahab the Arab by Ray Stevens, so dat me linky dis week.

@kelsoterrier
Ok, last week we had Fade In-Out by Oasis. Listening to this song it makes me think it's about how you should make the most of situations while you can because they can fade out as quickly as they fade in. I think Oasis were referring to their fame and popularity.....and boy did they make the most of it while they could. It was from the album "Be here now" - another suggestion you should live for the moment? One of the singles from the album "Do you know what I mean" includes the lyrics "right here, right now" which AGAIN makes me think of living for the moment. The song was actually originally called Right Here Right Now but they changed it because this was already the title of a popular song by Jesus Jones (didn't stop Fatboy Slim using it though). Long story (morning glory) short my link this week is Right Here Right Now by Jesus Jones.

@wonderwinger
Well done Lexie for giving us a little bit of Oasis to which i'll be linking the Inspiral Carpets with "This is How it Feels". Before joining the band, who at the time were called The Rain, Niel Gallagher was a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets. He infamously used to do radio interviews pretending to be the lead singer (who would be fast asleep). Noel joined and renamed the band Oasis after the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon where "The Inspirals" had played a gig.

@borderpup
We had to link to Fade In - Out by Oasis. That immediately made mum fink of Intro - Outro by The Bonzo Dog Doodah Band (she's very old). The fort wouldn't go away, and I dint fink we should inflict that song on everyone (look it up!!!) so we decided to pick the song they are prolly best known for, Urban Spaceman.

@rosieterrier
Congrats to Lexie for her fine Oasis choice last week. I do see that a member of Oasis was Andy Bell, there was also an Andy Bell in the Group Erasure along with Vince Clarke. Vince Clarke was in Yazoo with the wonderful Alison Moyet who came from Billericay in Essex. Now the sitcom Gavin and Stacey was based there and a song played in the first series was ' Say, Say, Say (Waiting for you)' Hi Tack. I choose dis song as my linky cos I likes to groove on down to it!! *sashay-swoosh in time to da toones*

An the winner dis week .... as chosen by ma dad  ..... dus be  ........ @wonderwinger wiv Inspiral Carpets. A great linky he said. Very close second was Kelso followed closely by Rosie! Yay!!! He hates avin to choose he said so tole me no more winning! heehee.

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Briar!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 18 November 2012. Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain: The Ninety-Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 95 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Kelso to choose. Last time was Pearl Jam wiv Black. Let's see wot happened this week!

@rettetkaninchen
My chain suggestion this week is the following song. Yay for all kind of love songs! Cat Powers's song is about love that turns into unrequited love. That's the kind of love that's so bitter sweet and melancholic like Cat Power's music. The second linky is her collaboration on solo projects of Eddie Vedder - the singer of Aunty Pearl's Jam band.

@terenceterrier
Bin staring at the werds Black by Pearl Jam for inspirayshun whilst nomming my way through a pack of Jammy Dodgers. Then I kept getting the werds Jam & Jerusalem coming to me. Dis be the name of a TV series bowt the Womens Institute ladies who make lotsa jam & whose anthem is “Jerusalem” . This songy has the phrase “dark satanic mills” in it which were pretty black cos of all the soot from their chimneys. The mills were part of the industrial revolution and the steel mills were in the part of England known as the Black Country. So my linky be “Jerusalem” – dis version taken from Last Night of the Proms 2011 & by BBC Symphony Orchestra, Singers & Symphony Chorus (just the furst bit!)

@djladylexie
Ok.Black by Pearl Jam. Hmmmmm well if you remove the jam you is left wiv da Black Pearl. The Black Pearl was the name of the ship in The Curse of the Black Pearl as you probly know! As you also probly know … Johnny Depp was in dat filum as Captain Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp also likes to play guitar and famously played the slide guitar on the Oasis song Fade In-Out. So dat ma choicy for da linky Black > Pearl Jam > Black Pearl > Jack Sparrow > Johnny Depp > Oasis! Ta-da!

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to Kelso fur such a taarific linky last week! So cause we dUs lov jam in dis house we is going wif a linky wot we dUs jam to in dis howse. Is called 'Pump Up The Jam by Tecnotronic. Pump up dA jam, dadada, yeah pump up dA jam....

@patchacat
Last week the winning linky was”Black” by Pearl Jam. There are lots of songs with black in the title so I thought I’d be different and look at it from a different angle. I looked for a song by a black artist with the song title linking to words Pearl or Jam. My linky this week is “Jam” by Michael Jackson. BTW Michael was born black but in this video his face is a sorta pearl colour. So I gets all 3 words into the linky.

@bvfeyj
Last week we did hab Pearl Jam wif dere song Black which was submitted by da brilliant kelos (or is dat lesko) anyway by dat @kelsoterrier. Me did discober dat Pearl Jam hab worked on and off wif Neil Young and Neil is sometimes known as da “Godfather” ob grunge for his influence on Pearl Jam and uvver grunge bands so me does choose Pearl Jam joined by Neil Young on da bery intense Rockin’ in the Free World! It kinda long but worf ebery second!  Pearl Jam performing rockin' in the free world with Neil Young in Toronto 2011.

@wonderwinger
Well done Kelso on last week's win giving is Black from Pearl Jam. This one stumped me, so I decided to go for a colour inspired linky: Yellow by Coldplay. Like Pearl Jam, Coldplay are renowned for their political & social activism from being involved in endorsing US presidential candidates & being critical of US foreign policy to being very active in green issues such as global warming & fair trade.

@rosieterrier

Well done K. My linky is short and very sweet and it dus be 'Invisible' by Mr Paul Weller because this too is a moving song about unrequited love.

@marleyterrier
Oh deer……*runrun*….it ave been a terribly bizee week wot wiv one fing or another…..so….er…..I dint be avin much time for doin my chain between updating peemail, nappin, crumb patrol, Autumn Watch (aka Squirrel checks) and wot not….so er….we do be looking at Patch's choice of Black by Pear Jam and finking….why mess wiv a classic? So this week we do be Back in Black….he he see wot I did there? Its by well known Aussie choir boys AC/DC.

@borderpup
Well it has been difficult to fink straight this week, cos we have been looking after ovver people's dogs during half term! So to link wiv Pearl Jam we is simply finking of important bands from the grunge scene in Seattle in the 1990's, and guess what? We were so original we came up wiv Nirvana!!! *taxi for Mr Terrier*. We choose the unplugged version of 'Come as you are':

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner was Black by Pearl Jam. I shall stick to the word play of BLACK by choosing Back to Black by the talented Amy Winehouse.

An the winner dis week .... as chosen by @kelsoterrier  ..... dus be  ........ @djladylexie wiv Oasis an Fade In-Out. A great linky even if I dus say so maself teehee. Time for dad to choose again!.

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you, ma dad!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 11 November 2012.
