Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Eighth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 208 of #lexieschain. Last week  the winner was Kelso wiv Orange Juice and Rip It Up. Let's see wot appened this week.

@diamondbertie
So clever @kelsoterrier won with Rip It Up by Orange Juice, my choice has the same title but it's by Little Richard, it sort of sprang to my mind.

+Terence Terrier
It woz difficult for me to do da chainy dis week cos I neva heard of da group Orange Juice or da songy “Rip it up”. Afta trudgin to da library n doin hours n hours of dedicated research I discovers dey come from Glasgow area. If yoo squeezes an orange yoo gets orange juice but if yoo chops up n cooks an orange yoo gets marmalade. The Marmalade also comes from da Glasgow area. So for my linky dis week I chooses their hit single “Relections of my Life”.

@borderpup
We decided to fink about other bands with fruit in their names for our linky, and what could be better than anuvver citrus fruit?! Here are The Lemonheads. And not just because mum used to fancy Evan Dando. Oh no ;). The Lemonheads "Into Your Arms".

@wotterface
So last weeks winner was Orange Juice with Rip It Up. Edwyn Collins was in Orange Juice before going solo. Now Edwyn Collins got very poorly in 2005 and had a cerebral hemorrhage but despite suffering ongoing issues from this, he has carried on making music. So this got us thinking about artists who are sick but carry on. We know that Lady Gaga threw up on stage and carried in performing straight away so we chose Lady Gaga as our link. But we couldn't decide which track we liked best to pick. Then we found she had covered this song and, as the video features lots of cuddling, we chose it. After all, when you're poorly, you just want a cuddle.

@djladylexie
Orange Juice is a drink made of oranges. Some people refer to it as OJ. One of the most famous OJ's is O J Simpson who dun a murder (allegedly). Before all that murder malarky he was a famous American football player. Football is a game played with a ball. British people call football 'football'. One such football player is John Barnes. He played for Liverpool and Watford and Newcastle United. He also played for England. The link ere is football so we is goin wiv a song wot he sung an rapped on wot is World In Motion by New Order which is about world cup fing or summat. We hates football.

+De Cunningham
What a great new group and song this weeks winner is. Orange Juice is a great way to start your day. I always like cranberries and a good cup of coffee. Start your day with "Wake Up and Smell the Coffee'.

@claptonterrier
Orange Juice actually recorded an album called Rip It Up and that a lady called Louise Waddle was credited with doing “handclapping” on it. That made us think about other famous songs featuring clapping. Mr John Mellencamp recorded a song called Jack & Dianne and he clapped along with his vocal in order to keep his singing in rhythm. When he listened back to the song he liked the clapping so much that he decided to keep it, so that is our choice this week.

An the winner as chosen by @kelsoterrier dus be ....... @djladylexie oh ... that is me! heehee .... Guess is me dad again wot be choosin next week.

Ere wot Kelso said: I choose link 5 this week coz it made me laugh so much, even if it is England Football song and I'm not the biggest En-ger-land fan in the world.  The author of link 2 should get points deducted (if this is even possible) for suggesting to a judge from Dundee (the home of marmalade!) that it originates from near Glasgow!!! :-O How very dare you, BOL!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 1st February 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Seventh Chain

Hello pals or hola amigos as we will be sayin when we in Beefa! Welcome to week 207 of #lexieschain. Last week  the winner was Wyn wiv Always from Erasure. Let's see wot appened this week.

@borderpup
To link from Always by Erasure, we carried on the Vince Clarke feem, and before Erasure he was half of Yazoo wiv Alison Moyet. She went solo after Yazoo split up and as mum isn't ready to leave the 80s synthpop just yet, we have chosen I Go Weak -Alison Moyet. Can't find video so found this one which is very weird! Sorry!

@smcheetham
So last week our chain champion won again well done Wyn. I am afraid I just shamelessly use the chain to link to my favourite songs and I have done this again this week. I have used the word Always to link to You Were Always on my Mind which must be the best song ever about not making enough effort in a relationship. Anyway I like it and there is a link so hear you go You Were Always on my Mind by Elvis Presley. have a good weekend all.

@kelsoterrier
I see last week’s winning link was Erasure with Always. Always infers something will last forever whereas the band’s name infers this isn’t necessarily the case because things can be erased. Erasure are well known as being a synthpop band so I am going to link to a song that also incorporates a synthesiser to create a more disco-oriented sound. What song you ask? Well, why erase when you can rip it up and start again? My link is Orange Juice with Rip It Up.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winnin linky woz da songy “Always” by Erasure . An erasure iz posh name for a rubber wot yoo use to remove mistakes if yoo writted on paper wiv a pencil . *paws froo contents of box of cherished 33 rpm albums* My linky dis week coming from da LP by The Beatles wot be called “Rubber Soul”. I chooses da track “In My Life” cos it be one of my favorits.

@diamondbertie
Great that Erasure won last week with always, a lovely song my choice has to be Baby it's Cold Outside who to choose for the artist, so many choices Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Idina Menzel or Rod Stewart, hmmm. Well I have to choose Tom Jones version alway had a bit of a soft spot for the Welsh Wizard.

@maggietkat
Well done with the Vince Clarke tune! Checking back, he was also in the band Yazoo which was known in the US as Yaz. The name change happened due to copyright issues with a record label. Yazoo Records was formed to preserve American heritage music. One of the artists on the label is the Memphis Jug Band, performing a song by Gus Cannon (band member), "Walk Right In".

@djladylexie
Last week was Erasure wiv Always. Always is a very popular title for songs you know! We dus know cos we found out from Wikipiki the font of all knowledge. Then we wondered what is the opposite of always … well we fink is never! So ere we dus av Never Say Never from Basement Jaxx. Sorry about the bottom!

@skye613
So to start this search I wondered what is Always? Something that goes on forever, or happens all the time. Yes Those are correct. This also happens always ... Every week "Manic Monday".

@bunnersandharvs
What a super dups linky by Wotter last week with Erasure's Always. You is on a anudder roll it seems, pal. We wos thinking about da songy by Erasure and it made us think if you erased you may also feel invisible so dat is why we has Chosen Invisible by Skylar Grey. She says wot eva she tries to do she always invisible. Awww Good luck choosing da link dis week pal.

@claptonterrier
Last week Miss Wyn won with a song by Erasure. This put is in mind of a great song by Erasure called A Little Respect. Our favourite version of this song was a cover version by Wheatus and that gives us a perfect excuse to select the Wheatus song “Teenage Dirtbag” as our link this week…

An the winner as chosen by @wotterface .... dus be ....... @kelsoterrier! Yay well done me pal first one of 2015 under your belt or should I say medallion Kelos heehee. You be choosin next week.

Ere wot Wyn said: We genuinely couldn't decide this week so we had to narrow it down to a couple, write them on paper, throw them in the air and catch one...Orange Juice and Rip It Up. So congrats whoever that was! So many good links this week. Loving the dance and synth pop, the jug music and the various classics. Please don't make it so hard again! We really laughed at the Erasure/eraser confusion.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 25th January 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Sixth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 206 of #lexieschain. Last week  the winner was Skye wiv Nothing by Depeche Mode. Let's see wot appened this week! Good to see some pals returnin for 2015. Let's hope we get some competishun goin dis year - year 5! Can you believes it?

@maggietkat
Well done with Nothing by Depeche Mode. The dark melodies remind me of another artist.  The lyrics talk of surprises that advertise nothing which also puts me in the mind of a song by this dark artist. My choice this week's is "Step Right Up" by Tom Waits.

@smcheetham
Happy new year all fellow chainees New Years resolution to not leave chain until the last minute. So here goes last times winner was by Depeche Mode those great survivors and astonishingly successful electronic Essex Boys. They famously said they wanted to make electronic music after hearing Electricity by OMD - now that's a good tune so my link is Electricity by OMD electronic pioneers from The Wirral good luck all.

@kelsoterrier
Last week we had Depeche Mode with Nothing. I see Depeche is French for Dispatch or News Report so can't help thinking of the terrible events in France this week. I think we all wish "Nothing" had happened and that we were still "Enjoying The Silence" but one thing for sure is that freedom of speech must prevail and publications like Charlie Hebdo must have a voice.....for this reason my link is Charly (Says) by The Prodigy.

@terenceterrier
Larst week da winnin linky woz “Nothing” by Depeche Mode. Umm nothing = nowt = zero = absence of anyfink = nuffinness.  *bangs head on wall hopin for inspirayshun*  Gots it ! I go wiv “Nothing Compares 2U” by Sinead O’Connor.

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was a Depeche Mode song and it has sent our house into an 80's frenzy. Vince Clark worked with Depeche Mode for a brief period and the reason for much embarrassing dancing in the house is one of his other acts, the wonderful Erasure. So many tracks to choose from, but we've gone for "Always".

@borderpup
A bit difficult this week, hmm.  A link from Depeche Mode and Nothing ... well, we did our research on the interweb and found out that this song was on several albums, including a live one called 101. There is a tv programme here in UK called Room 101, where guests are invited to say why things they don't like should be got rid of into room 101, and the host picks the best one. Now, if I were on that programme, what would I choose? SQUIRRELS of course, pesky fings! So here is a silly song from Ray Stevens called the Mississippi Squirrel Revival. No offence to anyone intended, but as it has been a terrible news week we thought we could do with a bit of a laugh and cringe with this cheesy video.

@djladylexie
Well did you know that Depeche Mode means somfink close to fashion news in French? No? Me neivas! So what is fashion, one pals fashion is annuva cringeworfy affair. Fashun is a popular or latest style of clothing, hair, decorashun or behaviour. As Bowie himself says fa fa fa fa fashion! Dat is me linky, fashion by bowie.

@bunnersandharvs
So a Happy New Year and a very big well dun to Skye fur winning da furst linky dis year with Depeche Mode's Nothing. We wos listening to da songy and thort about nothing and sitting around waiting and anticipating and you know dis gots us thinking about if you wos sitting around you might do it sumwhur like on a dock watching time roll away so of course our linky dis week is Sitting By the Dock of the Bay but dis version is by Sara Bereilles. Enjoy chooosin your linky Skye.

@claptonterrier
last week a song called “Nothing” won and so this week our task has been very easy…we have selected a song called “Everything” by Micky Bubbles…at lest I think that’s his mafia name...

An the winner as chosen by @skye613 .... dus be ....... @wotterface! Yay well done me pal. You be choosin next week!

Ere wot the Skye said: So many great links this week to chose from. After I finished my chair dancing routine I must pick # 5. Love the link and the tune. Well done chainy pals! we  are going to have a great 2015 with #Lexieschain.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 18th January 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 205 of #lexieschain. The first chainy of 2015!  An well done to Wyn (@wotterface) for achieving the Chain Champ title of 2014. Ok, so on wiv da show. Let's see what we gots:

@Wotterface
So you won last week with Abba's SOS. If you're using the SOS signal then you need Help. Help! Was a film, single and album by the Beatles (not sure if anyone has heard of them). But we're going to choose "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" as our link this week. It's from the Help! album but it's a better song.

@terenceterrier
okey dokey. Off da top of my head. if sumwun be sending out a SOS dey needs help so my evvasa kwik linky be “Help” by The Beatles.

@skye613
What a great pawty and DJ Lexie the winner of last weeks chainy with " SOS " by Abba. This actually is something I have researched before. So SOS means.... nothing- nothing at all! My tune this week " Nothing".

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie and happy new Chain year…!! Last week you chose a song called SOS by Abba…..SOS is of course a famous shorthand signal requesting urgent help which is often given in morse code….that got us thinking about codes and songs about codes….I am afraid we couldn’t think of many codes which feature in songs but we did find an example of a dress code…No Jacket Required…which, of course, is the name of an album by Phil Collons…he used to be in a band called Genesis so this week I have selected the Genesis song  “Turn It On Again’….a rare moment of toe-tapping pop music from the merchants of Prog!!

An the winner as chosen by me dad .... dus be ....... @skye613. Yay well done me pal. You be choosin next time.

Ere wot the Dad said: All great links. I was torn between Depeche Mode  and Genesis. Oh dear. Dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot - that's SOS in morse #geekdad. Anyhoo, I choose Depeche Mode and Nothing. Well done whoever you are.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 11th January 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!
