Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Seventh Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 37 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Rossi Dog to choose da winner.  Wow, so many entries again dis week! So, last week da link was Elvis Presley, Viva Las Vegas. Rossi Dog ad no idea who picked wot linky! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@rettetkaninchen
Yesterday by The Beatles. Why? As Elvis Presley played his show in Las Vegas he covered and performed "Yesterday". Elvis is the most successful solo artist with over 1 billion sold albums and The Beatles are the most succesful band with over 1,5 billion albums. And they both are musical pioneers.

@i_am_fuzzy
elvis presley starred in 100's of filums, his best being the one he wasn't actually in...the johnny cash biog 'walk the line'  ....so i chooses johnny cash & 'hurt'.

@kelsoterrier
My entry dis week is Rush wif Roll The Bones. Why? Coz Vegas is best known fur gambling and in some casino games like craps u hav to roll the bones (or throw the dice). Also the King sang a song called Fools RUSH In so dis links wif da band name ;-).

@CloonfourMegan
My mum and dad got married in secret in Las Vegas. But when they came back they did have a party and a first dance. Of course it was Viva Las Vegas but they wanted a smoochy one too so Viva Las Vegas became (do you DJs called segued or something like that??) Moon River sung by Andy Williams. So that is the link ... !

@bvfeyj (Tucker)... last week we did hab da King wif "Viva Las Vegas" from da moosical ob da same name... so dis week me finking annudder song from a moosical "Guys and Dolls" by da "Chairman of the Board". Me submit "Luck Be a Lady" by Frank Sinatra. It also about gambling and Mr. Sinatra often performed it in Las Vegas besides.

@tartan_terriers
Ok, we gonny choose Biffy Clyro - Mountains. Why? Cos Elvis briefly landed in Prestwick, Ayrshire in 1960, the only time he ever set foot in Britain. biffy Clyro come from Kilmarnock which is also in Ayrshire. Elvis also sang about some mountains... You gave me a mountain and Theres gold in the mountains. ;)

@diamondbertie
I have a link!! Kay Starr - Wheel of Fortune. Why? Viva Las Vegas is about gambling roulette etc BTW I love Viva Las Vegas

@gizmogeodog
I thought & thought about Elvis & Las Vegas & realized I could now bring you all down here to Florida.

Elvis made "Viva Las Vegas in 1964. In 1962 he made the movie "Follow That Dream". He shot part of that movie in Inverness, Florida, a very small town near an even smaller town called Floral City. My girl used to live in Floral City.

The Bylaws of the State of Florida insist that JImmy Buffet must be mentioned in any and all stories about Florida. Buffett owns half the state by default. He's saving up to buy the other half. ..Not really but it sure seems that way.

Anyway, in 2006 Buffett released the album "Take the Weather With You" that contained the song "Elvis Presley Blues", a tribute to T he King on the 33rd anniversary of his death.

So put it all together, Elvis + Florida + Jimmy Buffett and you get my nomination: "Floridays", Track 6 from Buffett's "Floridays" album, released in 1986.

@terenceterrier
Viva Las Vegas was the title track from an Elvis Presley film of the same name. The choreographer for that film was David Winters who also did West Side Story. So I’m going to choose a song from that film as my linky which is “Somewhere” (No – you’re absolutely right there’s no more clever associations to be had between this song and the previous one – I just happen to like it.)

@maggietkat
Viva las Vegas was the title track for a movie Elvis and Ann Margaret made in 1964. The Beatles were making the America tour that year. I found a link where the Beatles did Vegas in 1964. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/1964/aug/21/yeah-yeah-yeah-beatles-hit-vegas/?history  Since The Beatles came to Vegas, I believe their #1 song in the US should be the link, I Wanna Hold Your Hand.

@djladylexie
Elvis Presley was in las vegas for a long time playin at da featre an like Elvis annuva great star wat was at Vegas a long time was Tom Jones who was also very sexy like Elvis. So I dus choose Tom Jones – Sex Bomb!

An da winner .... as chosen by Rossi Dog  ... dus be ......Sex Bomb by Tom Jones from @djladylexie .... oh ..... me again! Fix, fix!! heehee. I swear it ain't ma fault!! So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means me!!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Sixth Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 36 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to me to choose da winner.  Wow, so many entries that I managed not to delete (well maybe I did delete a couple but luckily got them back again or you re-sent them)!!

So, last week da link was Coldplay - Viva La Vida. Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@i_am_fuzzy
viva la vida takes it's name from a painting by frida kahlo (she was a mexican artist....probably more famous for having a monobrow). chris martin is a fan of oasis, and noel gallagher also has big eyebrows (though he has two rather than one). and chris martin covered 'wonderwall' at a benefit gig....so i choooose oasis - 'wonderwall'

@bvfeyj
So me hab da linky for dis... Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. How you get dat? me hears you cry. Well, is funny dat you asks, but here is what me finkin'. Coldplay released Viva La Vida and was sued by Joe Satriani for copyright infringement of his song "If I Could Fly". Coldplay denied the allegation, but reached an unspecified settlement wif Satriani. Huey Lewis was asked to do the theme for Ghostbusters but turned it down because of other commitments, then when he heard Ray Parker Jr.'s theme he sued for copyright infringement of his song "I Want a New Drug". Dey also settled out of court in 1985 wif compensation to Huey Lewis from Parker and da Ghosbusters franchise. The settlement prohibited either side from discussing it, but in 2001 Lewis commented in an interview on VH1 and Parker sued for breach of confidentiality. Bof dese songs was number 1 hits US and number 1 & 2 in UK so me want to get dem out ob court and back where dey belong!

@marleyterrier
You did choose Viva La Vida by Coldplay and we did see that the song was played to the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis to wake them up on day two of mission STS-135 cos they dussnt got any barkin in space. We know ow you duz feel bout ships called Atlantis so we got to finkin bout how this idea started and we did see from googlin it that they fink wake up moosics for astronorts did start wiv crew of Apollo 10 and the first moosics they did use was On a Clear Day by Robert Goulet....

@rossi_dog
What to link with Viva La Vida? Obviously VIVA LAS VEGAS which is a whole lot of song and we are jumping around the living room just loving it. Apart from the Viva in the title there is also the fact that both the King, Elvis himself, and lesser mortal Chris Martin of Coldplay were/are married to ACTRESSES. Some might say - hold on, Priscilla didn't get an Oscar and hasn't been in 10,000 worthy films doing dodgy accents, she is not in the same class! We say BOO to that - Mrs. Presley was in the Naked Gun films and that trumps everything else! Just play the song and try to keep your feet still! BOL!

@borderpup
My choice is ... Dancing Queen by Abba. Why? Because Viva la Vida means somefing like Long Live Life, and Olivia Newton-John did sing Long Live Love at da Eurovision. But I fort we don't want to be listening to old Eurovision plinky-plonk songs! But who did win in da year Olivia did sing her song? It was ABBA! So I picked a good Abba song for everywun to listen to.

@bellaruffmutt
Viva la Vida means long live life in da Spanish (i is fluent obvs) which make me fink of Spain and Spanish guitar which makes me fink of the Gypsy Kings, even those they were not from the Spain, they were from da France or Belgium…anyhoo they was influenced by flamenco and their Spanish parents so here we go – Gypsy Kings with Bamboleo.

@kelsoterrier
My entry dis week Iz Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole. Why? Coz Viva La Vida took itz name from a painting by 20th century Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and Mona Lisa title is also taken from a famous painting.

@dieseldawgg
Da vidalevida dus make me fink of olde car names like viva so dus pop in head the courteeners cos they dus spell it wrong too like cold play. The Corteeners wiv No You Didn't, No You Don't.

@rosieterrier
Viva la Vida is also called death n all his friends-this was title of grays anatomy. Soz. One episode of grays anatomy was called "death n all his friends". Music on advert for grays anatomy was-Marina and the diamonds-Numb. That's my ansa!

@terenceterrier
Last weeks track was Viva la Vida by Coldplay . The song was played to the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantisto wake them up on day two of mission STS – 135 specifically crew member Douglas Hurley. So my entry for the chain (hastily cobbled together) is Star Man by David Bowie.

@bunnersandharvs

@CloonfourMegan
Gwynef Paltrow is married to Chris Martin from Coldplay. Gwynnie was guest star in Glee whose most famous tune is Journey's Don't Stop Believing. Dat our linky!

An da winner .... as chosen by me  ... dus be ...... Viva Las Vegas by @rossi_dog! Well done ma pa, love the linky!! So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you @rossi_dog!!

Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Fifth Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 35 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to me to make Bunners and Harvs to choose da winner.

A great suggeschun from our pal Fuzzy (@I_Am_Fuzzy) was dat when I sends da suggeschuns, I take off da names to make it more eggsitin. He also suggested dat I tell you what the link was from da week before. Dems is boaf brillunt ideas. Fanx Fuzzy.

So, last week da link was U2 - Wiv or Wifout Choo. Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@dieseldawwg
Me does fink da link is dis as dat Bonio man does stamp his little foot on the stage in a pointy way like Rumplystiltskitin Orange and black attack ! :)

@zoetheborder
My entry for da chain dis week dus be "This Must be the Place (Naïve Melody)" by The Talking Heads. I has to say is mostly b/c it is a nice happy song an dus be one of ma Mom's very favourite songs, an I dus like to frow her a bone every now an den. Also is connected to U2 via Brian Eno who has worked wiv U2 an The Talking Heads. I has a fuzzy brane dis week and dat dus be all I gots.

@i_am_fuzzy
my human went on the bus down to london village to see u2 when the joshua tree was released, which is what 'with or without you' is off. the bus driver asked if anybody had any cassettes (a bit like a cd apparantly!) & somebody had the joshua tree, so it was played over & over for 2+ hours going (and over & over for 2+ hours coming back).....anyway, the first song u2 played was 'where the streets have no name' my human was in the stands (it was wembley stadium) and just as it began to play my human felt incredibly queasy & climbed down over about 6 rows of seats to find the toilets (didn't quite make it...ahem)......anyway, something else with no name was the neddy in the song by america 'a horse with no name' and after nine days in the desert sun he let it run free, but i don't know if the bloke singing could live with or without it!!

@bellaruffmutt
2 Unlimited - 'No Limit' - I choose dis song because they both have '2' in their name. I am quite simples like that...but also i like a cheesy rap in a song - they is greatly missed in da muusic industry these days. Also song says 'we do what we want and we do it with pride' and dis is how i like to live me life as a XXXXX .The end. Ps. mum says i should apogolise for making anyone listen to dis song coz it is very annoying and i now playing it on repeat *nods head to da beat*.

@rossi_dog
Mum and I offer 'Inbetween Days' by The Cure as the next link in Lexie's chain because in the lyrics they sing 'without you' rather a lot, just like U2 do in their song. Also both Bono (no, not Bonio, sadly) lead singer of U2 and Robert Smith of The Cure have been portrayed on tv show South Park (season 11 episode 9 'More Cr*p and Season 1 episode 12 respectively). Hope you like our effort, and have a happy weekend. Xxx

@kelsoterrier
Me entry dis week Iz Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love. Why? Coz U2 iz da name ov a spy plane so dat da linky to da Airplane bit and coz bof songs be girly love songs (bleugh, I prefer manly songs coz I iz tuff boy ;-))

@djladylexie
Da song was on album Joshua Tree wot was co-produced by Brian Eno wot dus be very famus musician and composer of moosic wot we dus like and who also worked wiv Roxy Moosic (wot was the chain before this chain) haha!!! He also worked wiv Coldplay on they album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends so we chose da single of da same name – Viva La Vida – Coldplay. Annuva band everybody pretends they loves to hate a bit like U2 but as all their albums anyway! Heehee.

An da winner .... as chosen by Bunners and Harvs  ... dus be ...... oh hang on wait a minit! Ere dus be wot dey said:

"OOohhh dis dus be harD worT bUt wEz awsO dus fiNk it wuZ fUn & dAndarOOdy tOO!

Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Fourth Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 34 of #lexieschain. I dus hope you still be enjoyin da game! Dis week was down to me to make da decishun. So, now let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@djladylexie
The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode Is song bout drugs but they pretending it ain't is about E excstacy! E¹s Are Good was a song disapproved of coz it did promote da use of drugs

@borderpup
Cocaine by JJ Cale, because I dint have much time to fink, it has a drug in da title, but it is an anti-drug song. Ahem, must try harder!!

@diamondbertie
ere is one for your link: Perry Como - Delaware - why it's so funny and clever there MUST be a link there somewhere!

@kelosterrier
My entry dis week is Divinyls wif I Touch Myself. Why? Coz Divinyls covered Love is the Drug by Roxy Music and coz the song is about loving someone a lot (or err, maybe lusting after someone a lot but dat wudn't help da link ;-)).

@terenceterrier
My entry for chain is "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by Lennon /McCartney because shortly after the song's release in 1967 speculation arose that the first letter of each of the title's nouns intentionally spelled LSD. In a 2004 interview, Paul McCartney admitted that the song is obviously about LSD. So there is a ³drug² connection between the two songs. Also this record is on the album Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band so also a connection between ³Love² and ³ Lonely Hearts Club² because people looking for love will join a dating agency which is known as a Lonely Hearts Club.

@i_am_fuzzy
When i saw 'love is the drug' i immediately thought of fuzzbox (or we've got a fuzzbox & we're gonna to use it (!!)) and their wonderful song 'love is the slug'..........................no
chance!! heehee!!

@bunnersandharvs
wEE duS feeW da liNky dis weeK is: U2 wit ore wiT oowt cHOOz. hARvs dus saYZ dey wus posT-puNk (hrRMM...) n hE saYz whICh dus flOW on frUm dA rOxy tyPes o mooSic. @rossi_dog
Mum has been racking her brains (did not take long) to try and think  of a good & witty link in chain after Roxy Music, but we have drawn a blank (quel suprise as les chiens say). What if Bryan Ferry was wrong (unlikely says Mum) that Love is the Drug and in fact Love Is In The  Air, sung by Rupert Everett and Colin Firth at the end of St Trinians Film. The connection is a bit lame, but the song should make everyone smile!

An da winner .... as chosen by Zoe ... dus be ....... oh hang on wait a minit! Ere dus be wot Zoe said:

"Ok I had a LOT of trouble, I fink des entries do keep getting better
every week!!! My TWO top choices were (a) @kelsoterrier an (b) @bunnersandharvs BUT if we can't have a tie (we can't sorry Zoe!!) I dus fink I has to go wiv B. just very slightly over A. But very slightly!! xxxx"

... an da winner dus be  ....  @bunnersandharvs!! Yay!! Well done ma pals! So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... Bunners an Harvs!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 4 September 2011. Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Third Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 33 of #lexieschain. I dus hope you still be enjoyin da game! Dis week was down to me to make da decishun. So, now let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@bunnersandharvs (so funny!!)
We dus foller da rose cunneshiion and went wif 'moses supposes' frum 'Singin in da Rain' dey is happer dan dA sung last weeK sooz we fowt it wul be niCe ta go wit haPPy toone. it dus maKe mUm giggLe too cawz dey is so appy an dey'z paw r boozy tapin tOO.

@mangotoo
Start Wild rode Nick cave. After listening to this Nick was inspired to write about another murder ballad Down in the Willow garden. He recorded this Ballad as "the ballad of Robert Moore & Betty Coltrane." Which was about him murderin her. Yuk!

Anyways Robert Moore was a chap who recorded a song "Everythings Gonna be alright" but also recorded by the funny sounding Teegarden & Van Winkle (1971). Rip van winkle did like sleeps and this is a song about him! The end!!

@tartan_terriers
Great Southern Land by Icehouse. Cos they are australian, so are Nick Cave and Kylie...they also used to be known as Flowers (pre 1981) and a rose is a flower!

@marleyterrier (by satellite phone from da deep desert!)
Ere is my link for da chain this week. Is "Call Me" by Blondie. Lady in the song you dun chose was called Elisa Day and she was ...ahem...a werkin girl. Call Me is also bout werkin girl and was featured in fillum called American Gigolo wot be bout a werkin boy!!

@rossi_dog
That's Not My Name by the Ting Tings because poor girl in Wild Rose is not being called her proper name either. (Like my mum who sometimes calls me by my human sisters name BOL).

@I_am_fuzzy
the wild roses grew down the river - where you find a lot of fish, which is the name of the singer in marillion (it's probably not his real name). i choose their 1985 hit 'kayleigh' .......and kayleigh is scottish for kylie!! maybe.....ahem

@border_pup
Dis week I had to ask mum for some help, cos she is very old ;o). She says that grandma used to like a perfume called 'To a Wild Rose' wot was made by Avon (and she was a Avon laydee!). Now they has a tv advert wot dus have music in background called 'The Adventures of Pippi Longstrump' by Fear of Tigers (an we do admit we found it fru search engine!).

@zoetheborder
My entry dis week dus be "Love is the Drug" by Roxy Music. Roxy Music dus be linked to Nick Cave because his first band "The Birthday Party" did used to perform covers of der songs. It links to Kylie Minogue because she did do a cover version in 2007. Da fird link dus be dat Nick Cave an Bryan Ferry did bof appear on a compalayshun album of pirate songs wot be called "Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys". And dat also dus link to last week's winna, DJ Lady Lexie, because she dus haf a ship!

@kelsoterrier
My link to Where The Wild Roses Grow iz "Used To Love Her" by Guns n' Roses. Why? Firstly because ov the Roses link and secondly coz it iz also a song about a man killing hiz girlfriend (in a humorous light hearted way ;-)).

An da winner .... as chosen by me ... dus be ....... oh it's so ard ... they is all brilliant ... but I gonna go wiv .... Zoe The Border wiv Love Is The Drug! Well done ma Hanibelle sista!

Pals, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... Zoe! An close second is moses supposes wot really made us larf so much!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 28 August 2011. Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Second Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 32 of #lexieschain. I dus hope you still be enjoyin da game!  Dis week was down to @I_Am_Fuzzy to make da decishun. Fuzzy arksed me not to tell im who made da suggeschuns so he ad no clue who was who! So, now let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@kelsoterrier
Song by Arcadia makes me fink of early 80's computer game ov same name. Game woz a space invaders type fingy where u had to shoot down da nasty alien invaders. U found urself shouting "invaders must die" at screen when u got a bit carried away ;-) Which leads me nicely to my linky of Invaders Must Die by da Prodigy.

@border_pup
I choose 'Things Can Only Get Better' by D:Ream. Why? Because Arcadia also had a hit wiv Election Day, and "Things Can Only Get Better' was the Labour Party feme toon for the General Election in 1997.

@BunnersAndHarvs
Hidy pal! r seelecshion iz wish yOO wuz HERE - he dus tawk bowt hevn & hewl & he wuz playun geetar on da promise.

@zoetheborder
Desert Rose by Sting. Is for a few reesuns, one b/c I dus rilly like it. Two b/c he did sing backup on last week's winning song, "The Promise". Third b/c the name of Arcadia's album is "So Red the Rose". An I did used to lif in da desert!!!!! So I fink you can see der be so manee reesuns for picking dis song.

@djladylexie
The Promise – was on the album So The Red Rose. I choose The Wild Rose by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds n Kylie Minogue. Coz of da rose connection. He takes her down to the river where the wild red roses grow den kills her there because she is too beautiful to live.

@tartan_terriers
Hazel O'Connor - Will You as the members of Arcadia are from Duran Duran, we went back to the bands early days for this one...the band were a support act on Hazel O'Conner's 1980 tour. Good tune!!!

An da winner ... as chosen by Fuzzy is ... DJ Lady Lexie (dat is me!!) Woofhoo wiv The Wild Rose.
