Hello pals! Welcome to Week 89 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to ma dad to choose coz I won last week. Last time was Skye Boat Song by The Corries. Let's see wot happened this week!

Lexie gave us “The Skye Boat Song” to follow wiv our next linky. Skye iz an island off Scotland. Annuver songy bowt a place by da sea in Scotland is “ Mull of Kintyre” which is bowt luvvly place in SW Scotland which is extreme tip of Kintyre peninsula (part of High Park Farm owned by Sir Paul McCartney) & woz ritted by Sir Paul n Denny Laine & performed by “Wings”. Da lyrics in bowf songs iz very similar in wot they say.

The winning linky last week was “The Skye Boat Song” by The Corries. For my linky this week *presses repeat button* I choose “Sailing” by Rod Stewart. This is another song about travelling over water to get back to person he loves & Rod Stewart is very proud of his Scottish heritage.

Excellent choice by Briar ob da brilliant linky from our bery talented @djladylexie! Me does luff The Corries & folk music & dat was a good one. Another ob dere songs is Parcel ob Rogues which was also recorded by one ob me faborite bands, Steeleye Span. Another song recorded by boaf Steeleye Span & The Corries is my linky “Cam Ye Or’e Fra France”. All dese songs does hab a common feme in dat dey is political “Jacobite” songs... it does bring to mind a great line from anuvver song ...dey may hab won all da battles, but we habbed all da great songs... or is somefing like dat. Anyway dis is a catchy little tune (dat pokes a bit ob rood fun if you can figgur out & translate what dey is saying).

Ok, time for a history lesson. Last week's winner was The Corries with the Skye Boat Song. This song recounts the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's escape to Skye on a boat following the defeat of his Jackobite army at the Battle of Culloden. The Jackobites were trying to reinstate a Scottish King to the throne and Bonnie Prince Charlie was the grandson of the last King of Scotland. Most of the Jackobites were from the Highlands of Scotland and, accepting defeat, many Highlanders moved on and recommenced farming. Landowners soon realised their land was more profitable without pesky people living on it so started evicting tenants. During what became known as The Highland Clearances a number of Highlanders emigrated to America. On the Isle of Skye this story of emigration was turned into a dance called America. During the dance each of the couples successively whirls round in a circle, till all are in motion; and the dance seems intended to show how emigration catches, till a whole neighbourhood is set afloat. All of that is a very long winded way of saying that my link this week is Runrig (who are from the Isle of Skye) with "Dance Called America" play it loud and I defy you not to dance or at least tap your feet.

Well done to Lexie on her wonderful win last week giving us The Skye Boat Song from The Corries. Roy Williamson from The Corries wrote the unofficial Scottish anthem Flower of Scotland. This song has been sung by the Scottish national rugby team ever since 1974 when Billy Steele got the fans to sing it after their victorious Lions Tour.
My chosen linky, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is also associated with rugby and has been adopted by the English fans as their song since 1989. Many artists have recorded the song before Rugby World cups, my preference is for China Black and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

However, neither song was written with rugby in mind, Flower of Scotland was a folk song and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot was originally a gospel hymn.

Charlie duss be Prince Charles Edward Louis John Casimir Sylvester Severino Maria Stuart commonly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie or The Young Pretender who was the second Jacobite pretender to the thrones of England, Scotland, and Ireland. He probbly best known as the instigator of the unsuccessful Jacobite uprising of 1745, in which he led an insurrection to restore an absolute monarchy. This make us fink of The Pretenders,,,,,and their big hit Brass in Pocket….

Hello. Here is my entry, last weeks was the beautiful Skye Boat Song, by the Corries, this lovely song is a lament for Scotland the words are so moving. My choice is La Mer by Charles Trenet, this is also a lament for the fall of France early in second World War. Both nations lost something irreplaceable.

Ok, a link to Wherever The Trail May Lead by Tim McGraw required this week. I have to admit to not knowing much about Mr McGraw before today. I now know that he is married to Faith Hill and they did some very very successful tours together. The first of these tours was in 2000 and was called the Soul 2 Soul Tour. The stage for this tour was quite unique in that it was a 360 degree stage surrounded on all sides by the audience. Other artists have also used this concept in their tours such as U2 and Def Leppard. Tim McGraw has featured on Def Leppard tracks and collaborated with them in the past. McGraw also joined Def Leppard onstage for the song "Pour Some Sugar On Me" during their 2006 tour. So the stage layout and collaboration links mean my choice this week is Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard.

If so, here we go: Hmm, we dussnt know much about Tim McGraw, so we did look him up on t'interweb. He dus be married to annuver famous singer, Faith Hill. They both has made lots of music and dun lots for charity, but Faith has also released 2 perfumes! And her newest one is called 'True', so guess what we has chosen? Yep, da famous 80s tune 'True' by a very young looking Spandau Ballet!

Bery creative, Briar! We likes da original Incredible Journey better dan da remake too, but like boaf ob dem. Bery impressed dat Briar found dat video, speshully since Tim McGraw wasn't eben borned yet when da mobie was made. We needs da linky for Tim McGraw "Wherever the Trail May Lead" anyway and da first fing to pop in ma head was Roy Rogers "Happy Trails" but Tim McGraw was da son ob Tug McGraw who was a baseball player and Tim is minority owner ob da Nashville Kats football team which was named after da song "Nashville Cats" by da Lovin' Spoonful so dat is my linky! Dat was also before Tim was borned but it a great song!

I love that filum wiv da cat and the doggies on their incredible journey. Ok so this filum was akchewlly made based on the book by a woman called Sheila Burnford from Scotland. Scotland is also home to annuva tale of a legendary doggie – Greyfriars Bobby also made into a great filum. Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier coz of well, being from Skye! A famus song of Skye dus be the Skye Boat Song so I goes for Skye Boat Song performed by The Corries.

We see that Briar did choose Wherever My Trail Will Lead…and that made us fink of bein on a journey but we decides that we dussnt not like known where we is goin and so we fink of The Beatles and The Long & Windin Road cos that did lead them back to your door my pal…..and that makes us fink about doors and how sum times they open and sum times they be closed….and the last door we duss see will be eaven's door and so we ave chosen Knockin on Heaven's Door….by Eric Clapton (cos we do prefer his version to Mr Dylan's and Mr Rose's)…

Last week Briar won wiv “Where Ever The Trial May Lead”. So I started finking about trails & what sorta folk are found on dem. Cowboys of corse are well known for riding on trail drives so I chooses my fave cowboy songy “Ragtime Cowboy Joe” by Alvin and The Chipmunks.

Last week we had “Where ever the trail may lead” as the winning linky from the Disney film “The Incredible Journey”. One of the animals was a Siamese cat. So I looks for another Disney film with Siamese in it & finds “Lady & The Tramp”. So I choose for my linky this week “The Siamese Cat Song” performed by Hilary Duff from that Walt Disney movie.

Dis puts us in mind of the fillum “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” all about some pets trying to find their ownas. The sequel woz “Homeward Bound II : Lost in San Francisco”. So for my linky dis week I chooses da songy “San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair” sung by Scott McKenzie which woz one of da anthems of the Swinging Sixties wiv da Flower Power people & Happy Hippies.

It was ritten by Paul Simon at Widnes Railway station while waiting for train & was bowt how he wanted to return home to his girlfriend. Now dis movie did feature Sally Field as da voice ob Sassy da cat, Sally Field did also star in da TV series "Gidget" which was based on da movie "Gidget" which did star Sandra Dee and James Darren & dat does finally bring us to me linky for dis week which does be da feme song from dis movie as sung by James Darren! Phew, dat was all around da woodshed to get here but dis is "Gidget" by James Darren.

To link from Homeward Bound, we did find out that Paul Simon wrote da song when he was feeling homesick while he was waiting at a station when he was on tour. So we fort - what might he be waiting for? The last train, of corse! So, our choice is 'Last Train to Clarksville' by The Monkees.

My link this week is Going Home by Runrig. Simple reason being that it's the song dad always listened to when he was "homeward bound" from holidays as a kid. It reminded him that while he was leaving the sunshine behind he was going back to a great place and it gave him something to look forward to on the plane.

Well done to Harv and Lord Percy, a super win for the new pairing *applaws*. My entry this week is Wherever The Trail May Lead by Tim McGraw. The song is taken from the 1963 Disney Movie: The Incredible Journey. When this film was remade in 1993 it was retitled Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. I'll always prefer the original...love that English Bull Terrier. (I hope this link works as it's a lovely film).

 Over recent weeks we have had The Who and now The Rolling Stones both huge British Rock Groups. Gimme Shelter is one of the best known songs never to have been released as a single. For my link this week I am going to choose another huge UK Rock Band and another very famous song that has also never been released as a single so my linky this week is Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

Well done Indy on last week's win giving us Rolling Stones to play with. Well now Keith Richards & Mick Jagger both come from Dartford as does my mum. This got me thinking about other famous folk who come from there, turns out there aren't many and even less with a musical bent. (Must be something in the water, mum can only play the triangle).

However, there was the rock guitarist Paul Samson who formed a heavy metal outfit named after himself called Samson. He also played guitar on my linky, Black Betty by Ram Jam.

So it gots dis paw thorting about how much he likes his home and it did make my paws start tippy tapping to da toone 'Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkle  cause I knows how lucky me & da familee be to have such warm shelter so I dUs always be happy when we is Homeward Bound, hit it...

Last week's song was 'Gimme Shelter' by the Rolling Stones - (a great song, by the way!!!). 'Gimme Shelter' was also the name of the Rolling Stones 1969 American tour and the final performance was a free concert at Altamonte Speedway - an infamous concert due to the violence that erupted.

The concert also featured performances by The Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (among others). Coincidentally, in 1969, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, together with Paul Kantner of The Jefferson Airplane wrote and composed another anti-war song in of all places, my home State of Florida aboard Crosby's boat! This song - 'Wooden Ships' - is my pick for the next link in the chain.

Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter had me thinking. I come up with The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel. Why? The song goes "hello darkness my old friends, I've come to talk with you again, because the visions softly ..." The human need for shelter when darkness falls is as primitive and needful as the ages.

right --- mmmm --- gimme shelter by the rolling stones. Gimme (wot dus be short for give me) as been used in quite a few songs over the years but one of ma favourites as got to be Gimme Gimme Gimme by Abba. Why? Because it was also the feem toon to Gimme Gimme Gimme starrin Kathy Burke who dus be very funny lady an dus be sitcom we loves! So ere da Abba version.
