Hello once again ma pals! Welcome to Week 9 of #Lexieschain. We got a few new players dis week and some great entries again!

Dis week it woz down to our pal @marleyterrier to make da decishun. So let's see how you dun got on! Here was da entries for dis week:

@CathyKeisha chose Soul Man - Blues Brothers. Why? It's another band, starring in a movie named after the band like The Commitments, that follow in da footsteps of sensashunal black artists.

@I_am_fuzzy Fast Car - Tracey Chapman. Why? Well pals, a mustang is a fast car !

@fizzlebear chose the theme to 'White Horses' because a mustang is a neddy!!

@tartan_terriers chose Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec Camera. Why? Mustang Sally was a song from the film The Commitments written by Roddy Doyle which made us think of another Roddy! Roddy Frame is the singer with Aztec Camera.

@MaggieTKat chose Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets by Della Reese. Why? Mustang Sally is supposedly based on Della Reeves wanting a new Mustang. The character of Mustang Sally did exactly what she pleased. The character of Lola, from the musical Damn Yankees, is another woman who gets exactly what she wants.

@Oz_theTerrier chose Breathless by The Corrs. Why? Last week's link, Mustang Sally was in movie The Commitments, and so was Andrea Corr (as Sharon) from The Corrs and this song is one of my fave The Corrs singles!

@RettetKaninchen chose I Can't Stand The Rain by Tina Turner. Why? Because the song was also part of the movie of The Commitments. Tina and The Commitments covered it both from the original version of Ann Pebbles. And Tina and Ann were both playing together with Cyndi Lauper. And finally: Tina just rocks!!!

@DJLadyLexie chose Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd.  Why? The Commitments was directed by Alan Parker. He also directed the movie Pink Floyd The Wall. I has chosen by ma favourite song from The Wall – Goodbye Blue Sky.

@Kelsoterrier chose Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones. Why? Well because a Mustang is a wild horse without any commitment to anything. And the Rolling Stones are also mentioned in The Commitments film. And because it's a great song!

And the winner ...... as chosen by @marleyterrier and suggested by ...... @MaggieTKat ....... is ........ Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets by Della Reese.

The year: 1991 (original in 1955)
The song: Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets
Artist: Della Reese

Marley said to me, Lexie, he said: "Hmmm, i fink this do be a easy one for me. I say for you that this is what life is like for me. Week 5: Down Under - Men At Work (Let's Dance video is set in Australia, the land Down Under. David Bowie and Men at Work have both been involved in "sampling" scandals - Men at Work "stole" flute riff in Down Under from children's song and Vanilla Ice "stole" riff from Bowie & Mercury's Under Pressure).
http://lexiechain.blogspot.com/2011/01/lexies-chain-fifth-link.html

Lexie's Chain: The Eighth Link

Hello once again ma pals! Welcome to Week 8 of #Lexieschain. I dus ope you still enjoyin da game. We got a few new players dis week and some great entries again! Dis week it woz down to our pal @bvfeyj (Tucker) to make da decishun. So let's see what we got!

@I_Am_Fuzzy chose Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles. Why? From Aretha Franklin to Franklin Roosevelt to his wife, Eleanor, to Eleanor Rigby.

@Tartan_Terriers chose Slow by Rumer. Why? Cos she also sang a song called Aretha, she sang about having Aretha in the morning high in her headphones and walking to school.

@MaggieTKat chose Green Onions covered by King Curtis. Why? It hit the charts in 1967. King Curtis was one of the personnel on Aretha's Lady Soul album. Green Onions has that same Detroit feel as Chain of Fools with the Memphis back beat.

@indykitty chose Ship of Fools by Erasure. Why? Because there is a lot of fools in the world!

@ bvfeyj (Tucker) chose Lulu To Sir with Love. Why? Aretha Franklin Chain of Fools was from 1967 but it did not make da Billboard top 100 chart for 1967 and da number one song dere for 1967 was To Sir with Love by Lulu.

@Millie_Dog chose Prisoner of Love by Foreigner. Why? Because prisoners traditionally were in chains and love is often described as foolish (also foreigners are sometimes perceived as fools if they have an accent).

@Marleyterrier chose Mustang Sally by The Commitments. Why? Because they was also singing Chain of Fools in dat movie and soundtrack was played non-stop by typist during his first year livin on his own in London. He even went to see play at Hammy Odeon. Woofs.

@Kelsoterrier chose Suicide is Painless by Manic Street Preachers . Why? Because "Chain Of Fools" is an unauthorised rewrite of the gospel song "Pains Of Life". In the original song the chorus "Pain Pain Pain" is echoed as "Chain Chain Chain" in the Franklin recording. So the Franklin song is painless, just like suicide according to my song choice.

@Borderpup chose Love Changes Everything by Climie Fisher. Why? Cos Simon Climie co-wrote I Knew You Were Waiting (for me) which was a big hit for Aretha Franklin and George Michael.

@DJLadyLexie chose Everybody Needs Somebody To Love by The Blues Brothers. Why?Arethan Franklin sang Think in The Blues Brothers Movie and Jake and Elwood was in the video of dat. Jake and Elwood sang this song wot dus be in da movie too!

And the winner ...... as chosen by @bvfeyj and suggested by ...... @Marleyterrier ....... is ........ Mustang Sally by The Commitments.

The year: 1991 (original in 1965)
The song: Mustang Sally
Artist: The Commitments (Wilson Pickett)

Lexie's Chain: The Seventh Link

Hello again ma pals! Welcome to Week 7 of #Lexieschain. I dus ope you still enjoyin it as much as I dus be. I fink was a hard one dis week but even so we got some great entries! Dis week it woz down to our pal @Oz_theTerrier to make da decishun. So let's see what we got!

@Millie_Dog chose Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson. Why? Because you "Chuck" pancakes in the air when you are making them and a "Berry" is a fruit and so are bananas! BOL!!

@Borderpup chose The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News. Why? This is beecoz of the linky with the film Back to the Future. (Marty McFly sings Johnny B Goode at the dance, when he is trying to get his parents together. The Power of Love was a hooge hit from the film). Another 80's film link from me and Mum!

@MaggieTKat chose Bluebelly Hill by Fats Domino. Why? Chuck Berry is from St. Louis, Missouri (where I live). In fact, Goode Avenue is close to where mom works. He still has a presence in town, and regularly plays at an incredible venue called Blueberry Hill, http://www.blueberryhill.com/. In fact, he is booked for Feb. 16! So my connection is in honor of the resturant that Chuck Berry has claimed as his "home place".

@bvfeyj (aka Tucker) chose Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. Why? Well, Chuck Berry was one ob da first artists inducted into da Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when it opened in 1986 and in 1987 Aretha Franklin was da first female artist inducted! Bowf Aretha Franklin and Chuck Berry won lots of awards and honors in dey careers. Dey bowf in da Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, bowf winned Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards, Kennedy Center Honors, and bowf in da top 10 ob Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Chuck Berry performed at da White House and Aretha Franklin sang at da Presidential Inaugration. Besides dat she da Queen ob Soul, and since she say so in da song "I'm just a link in your chain..." it gots to be hehehe

@I_am_Fuzzy folsom chose Prison Blues by Johnny Cash. Why?  Johnny be good, or else you might end up in prison!! BOL!

@DJLadyLexie chose Every Day I Have The Blues performed by B B King. Why? Johnny B. Goode was originally a song about Johnnie Johnson, a great blues musician who worked with Chuck Berry. Johnnie Johnson also played with Eric Clapton. Eric performed with both Johnnie and B B King when they performed Every Day I Have The Blues together.

@Tartan_Terriers So Far Away by Dire Straits. Why? Because James Taylor did a cover of Chuck Berry's The Promised Land. James Taylor also sang Sailing to Philadelphia with Mark Knopfler who is the singer in Dire Straits. And it reminds mum of when she was a teenager and dad was working away from home :(

And the winner ...... as chosen by @Oz_theTerrier and suggested by ...... @bvfeyj (Tucker)  ....... is ........ Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin!
The year: 1967
The song: Chain of Fools
Artist: Aretha Franklin

Lexie's Chain: The Sixth Link

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 6 of #Lexieschain and we dus be still goin strong. I dus ope you still enjoyin it as much as I dus be. I notice a big "terrier" contingent. I always knew us terriers woz a moosical lot heehee! Again, dis week, we had some fantatsic suggesshuns and it woz down to our pal @kelsoterrier to make da decishun. So let's see what we got!

@Tartan_Terriers chose Chain Gang by Sam Cooke. Why? Because what is a chain gang? A chain of Men at Work!

@Oz_theTerrier chose Johnny B.Goode by Chuck Berry. Why? Down Under on Business as Usual album; another track on the Men At Work album is Be Good Johnny a reference to my link.

@bvfeyj chose Tie Me Kangaroo Down by Rolf Harris. Why? Because it about a
stockman (dat a man at work) an is also about da land down under an it hab koalas (like da Men At Work bideo) kangaroos an platypuses, ducks an ober Australian stuff like dat. Besides it funny and make mom laugh.

@RettetKaninchen chose Michael by Franz Ferdinand. Why? Because Men at Work stole the flute riff of the Australian childrens song "Kookaburra". In 2010, an Australian primary school director Garry Martin wanted to replace "gay your life must be" with "fun your life must be." - But that gained protest of gay and lesbian groups... So that links to one of the most homoerotic songs ever. ;)("gay your life must be" is a line of the children's song Kookaburra).

@Millie_Dog chose Musclebound by Spandau Ballet. Why? Because the group Men
at Work got their name after one of them saw men working on a building site. Men working on building sites develop strong muscles. Also this was released in the same year as Down Under by Men at Work.

@I_Am_Fuzzy also chose Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport by Rolf Harris. Why? It's a classic from down under heehee!

@Marleyterrier chose The Only Living Boy in New York (The Simon & Garfunkel Story). Why? Colin Hay from Men At Work starred in 3 epsiodes of tv series "Scrubs" which starred actor Zach Braff who produced and starred in da movie Garden State and was
awarded a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for a Motion Picture for his
work on the soundtrack album ...and dis be our favourite song from da soundtracks.

And the winner ...... as chosen by @Kelsoterrier and suggested by ...... @Oz_theTerrier ....... is ........ Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry!

The year: 1958
The song: Johnny B. Goode
Artist: Chuck Berry
