Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Thirty Ninth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 139 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was me wiv Lily Allen singin Alfie! So wot dus we dus av this week?

@diamondbertie
the winner last week was Lily Allen with Alfie, this is a song about drugs and being "high". I remember the Beatles 1967 album Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band where there was a song called Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds this of course referred to the effect of hallucinogenic drugs. If my memory serves me it was banned, but that made it a best seller. My choice of link is the Beatles' - Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds.

@freddie_bt
We ad an excellent winner wot wuz Lily Allen's song about her brother wastin his life becomin isolated n distant coz of dwugs. It made us fink of anuvva song bout a brother in similar circumstances, "My Brother Jake" written by Andy Fraser n Paul Rogers of "Free". In fact none of da band ad a brother called Jake, its really about deir guitarist an fwend Paul Kossoff who wuz already sufferin from addictions. Its a cautionary tale about da dangers of goin down a destwuctive path dat even da closest fwends n family are powerless to stop da victim takin, somefing dey all saw appen to Kossoff n nearly 40 years on dey still miss im. Unusually fer a Free song it features Andy Fraser on piano n so denies us da chemistry of Fraser's bass sparring wiv Kossoff's guitar, listen to somefing like "Mr Big" fer dat. "My Brother Jake".

Last week the fab DJ Lexie did win with Lily Allen's " Alfie " what was a song to her brother. A plea to stop using the demon drugs. So I'm sticking with family and drugs this week . Do you know who Lily Allen's Godmother is? Why it's Angela McCluskey ! In the vid for " Take Me Out Tonight " we see the White Rabbit... Hmmm.

@smcheetham
Well done Lexie and in your birthday week as well. Sorry Lexie's Dad no techno from me. Well I have used Brothers as the link and gone for brothers in bands of which there are many The Kinks, Oasis etc etc. one of my favourite bands The National has two sets of brothers so they win the brothers in bands prize. One of their best songs I think is Fake Empire so that's my suggestion Fake Empire by The National. This chain suggestion has been sent from the #ehuptweetup in Yorkshire where much fun was had by all.

@bunnersandharvs
Well is so cool dat Lexie did win da chainy last week, not only cos it was a great linky but
cos it was hur birfyday week too! So dat songy by Lily Allen, Alfie bowt hur borfur made us  think about families in general and den families dat did sing together. Sooo dat made us think about another family wot sung together - da Osmonds wot sang a songy called One Bad Apple!  Why, well dat Alfie was a bit norty not getting up and doing stuff and doing dem drugs so we thort dem Osmonds was da opposite and even tho One Bad Apple is a love songy, we says it dus mean dat we all makes mistakes sumtimes... oh and here da linky.

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie. Last week…*cough*…you won with a song called Alfie. Alfie, of course, was also the name of a famous film. In the recent remake of the film the title track was "The Beat Goes On" written by Sonny Bono. Mr Bono was married to Cher at one time and they made a lot of famous records together. However, she also dated a lot of other famous people, including Gene Simmons from Kiss. So this week my linky is "I was Made for Loving You" by Kiss!

@wonderwinger
This week I've been trying to think of links to Lily Allen's Alfie. Hence, I have been plagued at odd moments by images of Michael Caine staring at me & saying "My name is Michael Caine". It's been a hard week.

"Alfie" was of course the title of a film starring M.C. The soundtrack of the same title was sung surprise, surprise by Cilla Black and later by Cher. The songwriter of this song was the brilliant Burt Bacharach. Burt Bacharach wrote many great songs including my linky "This Guy's in Love with You". This was originally recorded by Herb Alpert in 1967 and later Noel Gallagher covered it as a 70th birthday tribute to Burt. Coincidentally, Lily Allen's talent for singing was noticed by the soprano, Rachel Santesso when she was singing the Noel Gallagher penned tune Wonderwall in the playground.

@terenceterrier
Last week da linky by by Lily Allen and called Alfie. Dis make me fink of da songy by da same name by Cilla Black. Umm and Lily Allen haz 3 “l”s in her name and so duss Cilla Black.
