Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Forty Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 145 of #lexieschain. The chainy is still goin strong and you still avin fun I hopes even if we has had a sad time recently.

Last week the winner was Clapton wiv Red Rooster by The Rollin Stones. Well, let us see what we dun this week.

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner was Clapton Terrier with the Rolling Stones singing Little Red Rooster, I thought of keeping the rural/bucolic theme and hit upon The Wurzels singing The Pheasant Pluckers Son, I defy anyone listening to it and not smiling.

@terenceterrier
Da winning linky last week woz “Little Red Rooster”. A Rhode Island Red is a little red rooster. Rhode Island is the setting for da show “Family Guy”. From an episode called “ Brian Wallows and Peter’s Swallows” Brian da dog sings “You Got A Lot To See” wot won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Music & Lyrics” and dis be my linky

@skye613
Congrats to Clapton ! Well done pal for the winning link last week " Little Red Rooster " Of course my brain saw "Little Red Corvette" right away. This 1983 song by Prince was playing on Stevie Nick's car radio & did inspire her to write "Stand Back". She called Prince, played the song for him & him came to the studio & recorded the track with her playing the synthesizer. He was not credited on album but was with the US Copyright Division as co author. So this what my brain been playing all week. The little rooster was crossing the road when Prince came speeding up in his little red corvette and Stevie be screaming "Stand Back" Oh my!

@djladylexie
Red Rooster hmmmm … well a rooster is a red-blooded chicken who protects his territory and watches over his harem err I mean hens. He pretty much fancies himself as a manly kind of guy and likes to make sure everyone knows he da man! Well, dat got me finking bowt songs about manly chickens, of which there can be only one. So I chooses The Best Dressed Chicken in Town by Dr Alimantado.

@freddie_bt
Pawently Red Rooster has nuffin to do wiv chickens n lots to do wiv male libido n da tendency of some men to er wander. Another much recorded song which tells a tale of adultery n hence is our linky is "Dark End of the Street", performed ere by Ry Cooder(who played slide guitar on Stones LPs) n his Chicken Street LP band

@kelsoterrier
Hmm, how to link to Rolling Stones & Little Red Rooster. Well how about a song with a music video that has been likened to Oliver STONE'S (as in Rolling!) classic Vietnam War film Platoon. Oh, and did I mention the song is called...wait for it....Rooster! So that is my link...Rooster by Alice In Chains.

@wonderwinger
Just a short and sweet (that might not be the right word) link from me this week. The cleverest knitted dog in the whole wide world won with The Stones' Little Red Rooster last week giving me the perfect opportunity to search the archives for another "rooster" song that wasn't just about life on the farmyard; my link shall be Rooster by Alice in Chains.

@smcheetham
Another week flies by. So how to tempt Clapton to select mine as a winning entry. Well just about everyone seems to have done a version of Little Red Rooster from the Jesus and Mary Chain to the Grateful Dead. My eye was caught though by the fact that Sam Cooke had covered it. That took me to a very fine song by Sam Cooke which is Change is Gonna Come which has a powerful message of hope which we all need in our lives so that's my suggestion Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke.

@bunnersandharvs
Furst of all a verree well dun to dat Clapton on his winning choice by da Rolling Stones, cockadooodledooo, hee hee. Now our linky dus be simples but dis wot we did come up wid.... We did get to thinking of things wot was 'Little' and den wot was 'Red' and den we thorts of da songy by Prince, Little Red Corvette! We dus know it don't have da rooster in it but we thort Prince dus act a little bit like one...BOL! Vroom Vroomm.

SORRY MA PALS CAN'T GET THAT VIDEO TO LOAD!

@maggietkat
Well done! Let's see, "Little Red Rooster" was written by Howlin' Wolf. AND the Rolling Stones got their name from a Muddy Waters chart. So, we are hitting the Chicago Chess performers! I thought I'd take a look at the fruitful career ofHowlin' Wolf, and select a cover. Both the Stones and my artists recorded in the 60's, one from across the Pond and one from LA. You guessed it! The Doors with "Back Door Man"!

An da winner .............. as chosen by @claptonterrier  ... dus be ..... @smcheetham. Yay brilliant linky Stella!!! So it mean you dus be choosin next week.

Ere wot CT said: Hello Miss Lexie….we have looked very carefully through all the entries and listened to all the songs…..I was very tempted to pick the Ry Cooder song because typist particularly likes that song and quite by chance we had been listening to some Ry Cooder this afternoon…however, there was one simple standout choice and that is why this week the winner is entry no. 8 by Sam Cooke with  Change is Gonna Come…surely one of the most beautiful songs of all time…well done to the Chainer who picked that one…

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Forty Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 144 of #lexieschain.

The chainy is still goin strong and you still avin fun I hopes even if we has had a sad time recently.

Last week the winner was Terence with Eric Clapton and Don't Think Twice. Well, let us see what we dun this week.

@freddie_bt
In memory of Tucker's Mum Clapton pwovides our linky dis week. After Cream split Steve Winwood persuaded Clapton dey shud form a new "supergroup" along wiv Ginger Baker n Ric Grech. Blind Faith, which represented Clapton's view of his decision to join, first surfaced wiv a free concert in Hyde Park on 7th June 1969, dey released jus 1 LP n Clapton left during da band's only tour. A shame because having two great talents such as Clapton n Winwood working together wuz a rare treat n da LP contains our all time favwite Clapton song "Presence of the Lord", ere's Blind Faith playin it in Hyde Park wiv luvly performances by Clapton n da peerless Steve Winwood. Clapton wanted Winwood to sing it because he cud hit da high notes.

@maggietkat
Well done, everyone! We love the early days of Dylan, and you all know that mom LOVES Clapton! such a difficult choice I had to make. I decided to opt for some controlled and well done silliness to lift our spirits. Dylan was a member of the Traveling Willburys. One of the songs just ticked my fancy, "Willbury Twist". So, to lighten our load and bring a smile to our faces, I submit this fun video.

@wonderwinger
Last week in our tribute to dear Tucker, the terrific Terence Terrier was deemed to have the best linky with "Don't think twice, it's Alright". This song by Bob Dylan was on the B-side of the single "Blowin' in the Wind". The first line of Blowin' in the Wind asks us "How many roads must a man walk down before he can call himself a man?"; in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy this is the "ultimate question; the meaning of life. The answer is, of course 42.

This was apparently the first number that came into Douglas Adams' head, but various people with infinite time on their hands have constructed theories as to the importance of 42. The band Level 42 even thought the number worthy of being part of their name. Level 42's biggest hit was with my linky "Lessons in Love". (Dogs don't need such lessons but people it seems do). Otherwise, the band is far removed from the genius of Dylan & Clapton, in fact, Mark King's unique guitar playing technique was often parodied in impression shows at the time, something that would never happen to Slowhand.

@bunnersandharvs
A very big well dun to dat Terence fur such a good win last week in honour of our dear pal Tucker. So dat songy wot Eric Clapton sang called Don't Think Twice Its Alright, made us think of another songy by da The impressions called 'Its alright'. Why, cos we dus figure dat Tucker would be saying Its alright to have a good time, baby it's alrgith...so tap your paws and hit it pals.

@claptonterrier
..Last week Sir Terence won with "Don't Think Twice Its Alright" …..we read that the melody for that song is based on an older song, "Who's Gonna Buy Your Chickens When I'm Gone"…..so that made us think about a famous song about a chicken and our link this week is "little Red Rooster" by the Rolling Stones.

@smcheetham
Well done Terence and Briar for the judging. I am afraid I have a very simple link again based on the idea of being alright. Bob said that if we don't think twice we will be alright so I have gone from that to a song about feeling alright and the one that seems to best sum that up is Alright Now by Free - just look at those trousers and that hair in the video hmmmm.

@skye613
@terenceterrier won last week with the great Bob Dylan's " Don't Think Twice, It's Alright. " Often called a troubadour of his generation Dylan spoke for and to the people of all ages . But generation after generation the song & message remain the same. " Don't Worry Child".

@djladylexie
Don’t think twice, it's alright. Eric Clapton is a long admirer of Bob Dylan and has covered many of his songs over the years. He sang this song love at the Bob Dylan 30th in 1992. The concert was dubbed Bobfest by Neil Young who performed at the concert. We picked Harvest Moon for Tucker an Joyce who loved Neil Young.

An da winner .............. as chosen by @terenceterrier  ... dus be ..... @claptonterrier. Yay brilliant linky ma pal! So it mean you dus be choosin next week.

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Forty Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 143 of #lexieschain.

This is a chain I am dussin wiv a heavy heart. One of our best players - Tucker - disappeared and stopped playin the chainy. Well, we was all worried but we knew his mum was starting up a new antiques business so put his disappearance down to that.

Sadly, somefink was naggin at mum about it. Joyce Dean (Tucker's mum) would never just disappear. Mum did some digging and sadly came across Joyce's obituary online.

Joyce was fantastic at The Chain and Tucker was crowned The Chain Champ of 2012 - they taught me a lot about music and their linkies were legendary. So, here's to you Joyce and Tucker. RIP dear lady and enjoy the rest of your life with her brother Tucker. We love and miss you both.  Now lets raise a glass to Tucker and Joyce.

Poor Briar had the unenviable task of choosing this weeks' winner in such sad circumstances. So let's see the entries.

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner chosen by Briar (@wonderwinger) was the Rainbow TV Theme
I'm keeping the rainbow theme with a song from the film Finians Rainbow sung by Fred Astaire and and Petula Clark called Look to the Rainbow. I was careful to avoid Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

@terenceterrier
Last week Briar won wiv Zippy and “Rainbow Mix”. Annuver cult childrens TV show woz The Magic Roundabout. One of the charachers woz Dylan who woz named after Bob Dylan. So my linky this week is a Bob Dylan song “Don’t think twice it’s alright” but I choose a live upbeat version wot he did wiv Eric Clapton in memory of our dear pal Tucker @bvfeyj aka King of da Chainy who luvved live vershuns of linkies and anyfink wiv Eric C.

@skye613
Well done @wonderwinger. " The Rainbow Theme." Last weeks winner of course takes us directly to " Somewhere...." At the end of the rainbow is a pot of gold, they tell me. Have not been able to verify this conjecture. But after hearing about Tuckers Mom, Eva Cassidy sings of " Fields of Gold. " Here's hoping Tuckers Mom is romping through those fields of gold to the end of the rainbow.

@smcheetham
Well Done Briar with your link of the Rainbow Theme i remember the programme well. My link is based on the word Rainbow. The term 'Rainbow Nation' was coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu to describe post apartheid South Africa following Nelson Mandela's election as President. That took me to that great 80s Anthem Free Nelson Mandela written by the great Jerry Dammers and The Specials so thats my rainbow link Free Nelson Mandela by The Specials AKA.

@freddie_bt
Rainbow City so called coz of da buildings' colours is a vast modernist new town of tower blocks with 22000 flats for which Angola paid China $3.5Bn, each flat costs $120000, avg. income in Angola under $2/day, occupancy under 10%, so its a ghost town outside Luanda. New colonialists same result, Africa n Africans exploited. Our linky "Alegria" by Batida celebrates da joy of Luanda's Carnival with film fwom da 70s, a time when da country wuz in a civil war perpetuated by outside interests. All da colours of da rainbow are ere n so are Harold Wilson n Jim Callaghan -

@bunnersandharvs
So a big well dun to dat Briar for hur winny last week. It may have been a last minute but wot's not to love abowt a ravey! Our linky dis week is not going down dat root of a ravey but it is going to use da rainbow as da linky connection. We is going wid a sweet toon by da Kermit The Frog called Rainbow Connection. Why? well cos we dus be thinking bowt how we all connected. And we dus hope dat Tucker and his sweet Mum knows we dus be thinking bowt her and sure dat all our pals was at da bridge to greet her. Hit it Kermy!

@djladylexie
Rainbow — well I did the obvious and went for Somewhere Over the Rainbow but sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Beautiful and dedicated to Joyce Dean RIP Joyce and thank you for playing chainy wiv us and giving us dearest Tucker. Not want to win just dedicatin this to Tucker and Joyce.

@claptonterrier
Oh dear Miss Lexie…we can hardly bring ourself to do our Chain this week after hearing about Mr Tucker's mum. He was the king of this little game wasn't he? I expect she would want us to carry on and so this week we shall play in their honour …Lady Briar chose the theme from Rainbow. In 1979, the cast and crew of Rainbow made a special exclusive sketch for the Thames TV staff Christmas tape, sometimes referred to as the "Twangers" episode. This sketch featured plenty of naughty innuendo….so naughty we can't repeat it here. That made us think of Captain Pugwash, the children TV series, which people always said contained lots of similar naughty stuff which children never noticed when they watched it. That made us think about songs about pirates and the sea. So this week our link is Martha's Harbour by All About Eve...

An da winner .............. as chosen by @wonderwinger  ... dus be ..... @terenceterrier. Well done Terence, a great link there.  You will be selectin the winner next week.

Ere wot Briar said: I've found choosing the winner harder than ever this week. Previously as a judge, I've often had an idea of the sort of link that I'd select as my winner before seeing any of them. However, so often Tucker's links would blow me away with their brilliance and my original plan would go out of the window. Tucker was and always will be the King of the Chain and i was touched by how he was so gracious in handing his crown to me. Through Joyce's selections I've discovered some great music and for that I'll be eternally grateful.

I've was greatly moved by Linky no. 6 as I'm a sentimental soul and that little green frog gets me every time. I love how #lexieschain connects us so this link is in 2nd place. My 1st choice in tribute to the King of the Chain is King of Songwriters Bob Dylan, so ably accompanied by that man with glasses on guitar (he can play a bit).  Linky no.2 - Don't Think Twice it's Alright is my winner

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 20th Octobins 2013 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Forty Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 142 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Harvs wiv Zippety Doo Dah! Haha Excellent! So what dus we dus av this week?

@skye613
And a great pick from Harvs last week. " Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah " . In their 1964 UK debut release The Dave Clark Five covered this song and also " Rumble " by Link Wray & His Men. Pete Townshend has said " If it hadn't been for Link Wray and " Rumble" I never would have picked up a guitar". From 1965 " Anyway Anyhow Anywhere " . The Who.

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner was Zip a Dee Doo Dah from Song of the South, sung by James Baskett My choice is Wonderful World sung by Sam Cooke, why? they both had wonderful velvety voices who died prematurely.

@freddie_bt
We knew nuffin bout "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" except it is enduringly popular n lighthearted. We discovered it masks da racial prejudice dat America at dat time twied hard to gloss over. James Baskett who sang it in his role as Uncle Remus in Disney's "Song of the South" was given an honorary Oscar but wuz unable to attend da film's premiere in Atlanta because of Georgia's segregation laws. Da song has stood da test of time, da film though has always been controversial for its portrayal of black people. Consequently our linky is "We The People Who Are Darker than Blue", no more explanation needed dere's nuffin ambiguous about dese lyrics. Musically its a typically brilliant Curtis Mayfield orchestration, who else cud make a harp solo work in a song fusing Soul n Funk.

@djladylexie
Zip a dee doo dah is a song from the animated move Song of the South from Disney. Da filum portrays a dark time in the history of America an slavery. A blues singer growing up in this era was Big Bill Broonzy. One of his songs that hits home on the subject does be If You're Brown, Stick Around.

@smcheetham
Hello all fellow chainees. Well at first I thought it was going to be difficult to find a link but my first bit of research revealed that last weeks winner was produced by Phil Spector which opened up so much to choose from. Was tempted by The Ramones but then decided to go for Classic Spector so chose Baby I love You by The Ronettes. Its a perfect pop song musically and lyrically and under 3 minutes which is always a good thing in my book. Enjoy.

@wonderwinger
Well done Harvey & Lord PPP for giving us Zip Pah Dee Do Dah for our linky this week. Song of the South was a favourite film of my humum. Thinking back to her childhood she remembered another programme that she used to watch religiously, Rainbow. Rainbow had the most famous Zippy of all. But you believe it that after Rainbow was taken off our screens George & Zippy retrained & became international DJays, rivals of FatBoySlim et al. Here's one of their hip & happening choons: Rainbow - The Rainbow Theme (Zippy's Big Twanger Mix). How can you not enjoy? *starts rave-dancing*

An da winner ............... as chosen by @bunnersandharvs  ... dus be ..... @wonderwinger. Yay well done again ma pal Briar!! Well dun! Oh an dat means you will be selectin the winner next week.
