Dis week me linky is "Sie Liebt Dich" (She Loves You) by The Beatles. Why? 'Cuz last week's song was sung in German so me decided to stick wif dat and because boaf da Rolling Stones and Eric Burdon & da Animals was big in da early 60s as were da Beatles. Dey was all part ob da *British Invasion" but before dey came to US or eben made it in da UK da Beatles spended lots ob time in Hamburg, Germany playing in da clubs. Mom say it not get any better dan early Beatles and we habn't had a Beatles linky yet.

Ok, this week all I need to do is find a link to Udo Lindenberg & Eric Burdon "Verdammt wir müssen raus aus dem Dreck / We Gotta Get Out of This Place" easy, BOL! Ok well Lindenberg sounds like Hindenburg which everyone knows was the name ov the big balloon that was involved in the disaster when it blew up in 1937 killing 35 people. A song about balloons with a German connection then led me to Nena (who were a German pop/rock band) with 99 Luftballons (later released as an English version titled 99 Red Balloons). The song is about a nuclear war resulting from the release of 99 balloons and if that happened you would definitely be saying "we gotta get out of this place" ;-) So Nena and 99 Luftballons iz my linky.

i'd got two ideas, so i was undecided whether to go for (a) alan price who was the keyboard player with 'the animals' was featured in bob dylan's 1965 documentry film 'don't look back', so i could choose a bob dylan track...OR...(b) after leaving the animals, the bass player chas chandler who plays the opening riff on (the original version of) 'we gotta get out of this place' brought jimi hendrix to london village & became his manager, so i could choose a hendrix track....mmm, what shall i choose? *DING* a + b = jimi hendrix with the bob dylan song 'all along the watchtower' !!

Linky needed to follow on from “We Gotta Get Out of this Place” by Lindenberg & Burdon. This was previously recorded by The Animals. They also had a big Number 1 hit with “House of the Rising Sun” which is a folk song from the United States. Alan Price of The Animals claimed that the song was originally a 16th century folk song about a Soho brothel and that the English emigrants took the song to America where it was adapted to its New Orleans setting. A Brothel is certainly a place you’ d want to get out of if you wandered in by mistake so I’m choosing this song as my linky. *flops down in armchair suffering from brain strain*

OK *Puts finkin cap on and furrows terrier brow in concentration* Need linky to follow on from “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones. *Sudden flash of inspiration* I shall keep with Devil theme and choose “Devil Woman” by *doffs cap* Sir Cliff Richard. There is also another theme linkin between the two tracks. “Sympathy for the Devil” was on the album “Beggars Banquet” . Beggars don’t have a lot of munny so have to get by on cheaper noms so there would be lotsa sossidges on offer at the banquet . When lil Harry wuz born (ie Cliif Richard) his Dad (Rodger Oscar Webb) wuz a manager for a catering contractor which supplied Indian Railways so there would have been lotsa sossidge noms on offer there too. So we haz a sossidge connection too. Furvermore there is a well known recipe called Devilled Sausages which brings both bits of the linky themes together *looks smug*.

Udo Lindenberg & Eric Burdon "Verdammt wir müssen raus aus dem Dreck / We Gotta Get Out of This Place" Why? Udo Lindenberg covered in 1978 "Sympathy for the Devil" from the Rolling Stones and " We Gotta Get Out of This Place" from the Animals on his album "Lindenbergs Rock Revue". The Animals got big in the 60ies like the Stones and both bands were pioneers of the international rock music. So was Udo Lindenberg for the German rock music. He turned 65 but still is making music and touring like the Stones. Rock never retires! Hehe, I think I won't have a chance with it but I like the German lyrics. =;X)

Sympathy For The Devil is one of the bangingest tunes ever! In hommage may I suggest 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 featuring C. Aguilera. Connection is obvious, and not at all clever, but is a great, great song and gives us a chance to look at Mick two weeks on the bounce! BOL x 1000! Love to you all you Chainsters, xxx

Funny how I have been humming "Sympathy for the Devil" all week! When I think of the Stones, my mind boggles at the possibilities, then I remember one of the best covers of a Stones song, "Start Me Up". I have no thread other than it is a cover version, and I laugh so hard every time I hear it. The cut is performed by the Folksmen who may be known to some as Spinal Tap, both imaginary bands. This did not make it into the film "A Mighty Wind", but is on the soundtrack. The version I have is actually from the Unwigged and Unplugged Tour. Thank you Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Sir Christopher Guest.

Sympathy for the Devil opened side 2 of Get Yer Ya Yas Out by the Rolling Stones, the first live album to reach no 1 in the UK album charts and Ya Ya Toure is out playing regularly for Man City, who are currently number 1 in the premiership, and run out to their anthem Blue Moon which the Marcels (amongst other artists) took to number 1 in the US and UK charts. So the linky is Blue Moon!

Rolling Stones are so huge my little brain struggled to cope with all the possible links to Sympathy for the Devil. Ok, here goes, Rolling Stones gather no moss but someone who did gather moss was Libertines lead singer Pete Doherty when he "hooked up" wif supermodel Kate Moss. Like Rolling Stones The Libertines are a bit ov a wild bunch and they have appeared in Rolling Stone magazine on numerous occasions. Mr Doherty is also considered to be a bit of a Devil and a lot of people "can't stand him" but others think he is misunderstood so hav sympathy for him. See wot I did there? mick jagger from the rolling stones, dueted with david bowie on (the dreadful!) 'dancing in the street' (i know it was for charity, but really! )....anyway, the rolling stones sang about sympathy for the devil - you usually have to be dead to meet the devil & been very naughty on earth, so an apt song would be bowie's 'ashes to ashes' (which is said at funerals & also, that's all that would be left of you if you met the devil.....it's quite hot in hell apparently!!)

Last week's song was "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones and wefot about how dat song was really prominent in da book by Hunter S. Thompson, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and is also a line in da movie. Unfortunately da director of da film version, Terry Gilliam, couldn't afford the $300,000 for rights to da song, so he couldn't use it. So we do choose da "Viva Las Vegas" cover by The Dead Kennedys, which dus be in da movie instead.

Beggars Banquet is also an English record label that started off life as a chain of record shops. Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. Why? Guns N' Roses is sometimes compared to early Rolling Stones and dey cite da Stones as a major influence of dey music. In 1989 dey was da opening act for da Rolling Stones at da L.A. Coliseum and in 1994 dey released a cover of Sympathy for the Devil.

Dis week we choose 'Return of the Grievous Angel' by Gram Parsons, because he was a member of the Byrds when they made 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' and was responsible for their more 'country' sound. He was a huge influence on many musicians (some of them talk about him in the documentary shown on dis video) and he discovered Emmylou Harris who is also singing on this song. Mum wanted an excoos to play a Gram song, and dis is one of her favourites!

Linky is dis: Bertie's Doris Day song was from a movee and a man named Jack Nitzsche was responsible for arrangin all the mooosic for dat movie. He did write a song called Lift Us Up Where We Belong which was a famus song from da movee Officer and a Gentleman and was sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker. Boff worked wif manager Gordon Mills who gibbed dem dose names. (Tom Jones from movie ob same name & Engelbert Humperdinck from composer ob “Hansel & Gretel”) Boff had tuberculosis. Boff had dey own TV show, boff winned Grammy awards, boff hab stars on Hollywood Walk ob Fame and boff still active popular performers today.

What to follow Sex Bomb with? We love Tom Jones - he did sing the song for 'Thunderball', a James Bond movie. Shirley Bassey also sang some Bond tunes and like Mr.Jones comes from Wales (as does my Dad), so we'd like to propose Shirley singing ' Goldfinger ' - turn the volume up and marvel at the range darlings BOL!

Like Tom Jones, Rod Stewart is considered a sex symbol and so I hav chosen a song by Rod dat fits in wif Simpsons reference which Iz Maggie May ;-).

She is the official mascot for the Wales rugby union team. She regularly sang the Welsh national anthem "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" at Welsh international rugby union matches so I am selecting that as my linky . I am going to be totally feline, and my choice has to do only with the sexy theme in the Tom Jones video. I love, and choose, the Hot chocolate song, I Believe in Miracles (You Sexy Thing).  I love it even more when lip synced by the mouse in this video.

My mum and dad got married in secret in Las Vegas. But when they came back they did have a party and a first dance. Of course it was Viva Las Vegas but they wanted a smoochy one too so Viva Las Vegas became (do you DJs called segued or something like that??) Moon River sung by Andy Williams. So that is the link ... !

Ok, we gonny choose Biffy Clyro - Mountains. Why? Cos Elvis briefly landed in Prestwick, Ayrshire in 1960, the only time he ever set foot in Britain. biffy Clyro come from Kilmarnock which is also in Ayrshire. Elvis also sang about some mountains... You gave me a mountain and Theres gold in the mountains. ;)

I thought & thought about Elvis & Las Vegas & realized I could now bring you all down here to Florida.

Elvis made "Viva Las Vegas in 1964. In 1962 he made the movie "Follow That Dream". He shot part of that movie in Inverness, Florida, a very small town near an even smaller town called Floral City. My girl used to live in Floral City.

The Bylaws of the State of Florida insist that JImmy Buffet must be mentioned in any and all stories about Florida. Buffett owns half the state by default. He's saving up to buy the other half. ..Not really but it sure seems that way.

Anyway, in 2006 Buffett released the album "Take the Weather With You" that contained the song "Elvis Presley Blues", a tribute to T he King on the 33rd anniversary of his death.

So put it all together, Elvis + Florida + Jimmy Buffett and you get my nomination: "Floridays", Track 6 from Buffett's "Floridays" album, released in 1986.

Viva Las Vegas was the title track from an Elvis Presley film of the same name. The choreographer for that film was David Winters who also did West Side Story. So I’m going to choose a song from that film as my linky which is “Somewhere” (No – you’re absolutely right there’s no more clever associations to be had between this song and the previous one – I just happen to like it.)

Viva las Vegas was the title track for a movie Elvis and Ann Margaret made in 1964. The Beatles were making the America tour that year.
