Hello pals! Welcome to Week 86 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Indie to choose. Last time was Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones. Let's see wot happened this week!

Last week da Rolling Stones was looking for shelter just like dey did in 1969, but in 1968 The Band was needin some place where dey could lay dey head. So me does fink The Band needed shelter too cuz dey “was feelin’ ‘bout half past dead”!

 Over recent weeks we have had The Who and now The Rolling Stones both huge British Rock Groups. Gimme Shelter is one of the best known songs never to have been released as a single. For my link this week I am going to choose another huge UK Rock Band and another very famous song that has also never been released as a single so my linky this week is Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

Well done Indy on last week's win giving us Rolling Stones to play with. Well now Keith Richards & Mick Jagger both come from Dartford as does my mum. This got me thinking about other famous folk who come from there, turns out there aren't many and even less with a musical bent. (Must be something in the water, mum can only play the triangle).

However, there was the rock guitarist Paul Samson who formed a heavy metal outfit named after himself called Samson. He also played guitar on my linky, Black Betty by Ram Jam.

So it gots dis paw thorting about how much he likes his home and it did make my paws start tippy tapping to da toone 'Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkle  cause I knows how lucky me & da familee be to have such warm shelter so I dUs always be happy when we is Homeward Bound, hit it...

Last week's song was 'Gimme Shelter' by the Rolling Stones - (a great song, by the way!!!). 'Gimme Shelter' was also the name of the Rolling Stones 1969 American tour and the final performance was a free concert at Altamonte Speedway - an infamous concert due to the violence that erupted.

The concert also featured performances by The Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (among others). Coincidentally, in 1969, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, together with Paul Kantner of The Jefferson Airplane wrote and composed another anti-war song in of all places, my home State of Florida aboard Crosby's boat! This song - 'Wooden Ships' - is my pick for the next link in the chain.

Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter had me thinking. I come up with The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel. Why? The song goes "hello darkness my old friends, I've come to talk with you again, because the visions softly ..." The human need for shelter when darkness falls is as primitive and needful as the ages.

right --- mmmm --- gimme shelter by the rolling stones. Gimme (wot dus be short for give me) as been used in quite a few songs over the years but one of ma favourites as got to be Gimme Gimme Gimme by Abba. Why? Because it was also the feem toon to Gimme Gimme Gimme starrin Kathy Burke who dus be very funny lady an dus be sitcom we loves! So ere da Abba version.

Here is my entry for the next link. Last weeks winner was Runaway by Bon Jovi, great choice, I could not resist another completely different song of the same name by Del Shannon. This dates back to the mid 1960s.

Ok, last weeks winner was Bon Jovi with Runaway. The link came about as a result of a vey clever anagram. So I decided to try my hand at an anagram link but can't promise the clever part ;-) Ok, here goes, Bon Jovi Runaway is an anagram of Bonjour Vain Way. To me this sounds like something a very vain person would say to themselves in the mirror in the morning when getting ready for their day of vanity. When I think of really vain people I think of two songs, Mr Vain by Culture Beat and You're so Vain by Carly Simon. I prefer You're So Vain by Carly Simon tho so I choose it as my linky this week.

Last week we had Runaway by Bon Jovi, so we did get our finking caps on .... Jon Bon Jovi, da man imself, does do lots of werk for charities. One of them is called Habitat for Humanity, and they dus get people togeva to 'build homes, communities and hope.' They build homes for needy people all over da world and also do disaster relief, helping people to get shelter. I fink you might be able to see where this is going now ....! Yes, we choose Gimme Shelter by them Strolling Bones!

Well done Patch, on your Eskimo-inspired link last week giving us Runaway by Bon Jovi. My link this week is Whisky in the Jar by Thin Lizzy. Why? Well, are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin... Bon Jovi covered the Thin Lizzy song Boys are Back in Town. However, when I thought about the title Runaway i thought where might you be running? Maybe you're fleeing "Out in the Fields". This was a single by the Thin Lizzy members Gary Moore & Phil Lynott from Moore's solo album "Run" for Cover. I love Whiskey in the Jar a traditional Irish song about a highwayman, aha, yet another reason for Running away.

We dint ono this cos we fort he was from New York City. Run By Snow Patrol .. Ma linky dos be Foreigner wiv Cold as Ice. Why? Well .. Snow is really cold, and sometimes when it melts and then re-freexes it turns into ice! So snow has to be cold as ice to be erm … ice! Heehee.

Last week was Run by Snow Patrol, which was a big hit when covered by Leona Lewis, tho we fort the original was much, much better! It dus be too hot here for much brain activitee, so we did fink about other cover songs .... We did fancy somefing a bit dancier, so we has chosen Comfortably Numb by The Scissor Sisters. Wiv apologies to all Pink Floyd fans out there, we fink in this case the cover version is better than the original! Here it is in their brilliant set at Glasto.

We did fink about 'Take my Breath Away' by Berlin and thought of course of Top Gun - then nuffing else! Then mum said ang on a minute ... U2 did record their famous album 'Achtung Baby' in da Hansa Studios in Berlin!  Any excuse to play U2, I says.  The song we have chosen from that album is 'Mysterious Ways', and the video was fillumd in Morocco so Lexie's mum might like da middle eastern feem!

Last week Patch did gib us da beautiful Take My Breath Away by Berlin from da Top Gun movie soundtrack. Very nice linky & well deserved winner! Also from dat movie we hab eaven in Your Eyes by Loverboy. Da same year (1986) Peter Gabriel released his song In Your Eyes which was later also in a soundtrack (for the film Say Anything). And dat is me link dis week.  In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel. (dis is bery good extended live version from Japan aid 1986).

I figure Berlin do be a city in Germany dat I seen on tinternet. I knows that they be a train station called Zoologischer Garten-in English - Zoo Station. After Patch's choice, we did notiss that the original version of Take My Breff Away was made by a band called The Motels at request of Giorgio Moroder¦..so we did get to be finking about motels and otels and wot a big part they has played in poplar musics. And of corse the most famuss otel song of all time (we fink) is  Hotel California by da Eagles so we be choosin dat (wiv pologies to Mr Presley down at the end of Lonely STreet).

Last week Berlin with Take My Breath Away was the winner. Berlin were from LA and had no real connection with the German city of Berlin but were musically inspired by Kraftwerk who were a German band. They were also inspired by Ultravox who were from London. Similarly, Ultravox had no real connection to the city of Vienna but this was one of their biggest hits. If you were in a nightclub dancing and you saw someone that was so beautiful that they "took your breath away" then you would likely soon be out of breath and end up dancing with tears in your eyes ;-) So my link this week is Ultravox with Dancing With Tears in my eyes.

Well done Patch on winning the chainy last week with Take My Breath Away. My link is Olympics-inspired in that it is Run by Snow Patrol. Why this song? Well, when you run really really fast so often afterwards you are short of breath & Berlin was the host city of the Olympics in 1936. Apart from that, this song has some beautiful lyrics and honours so many of our friends that have passed OTRB this week.

That album was produced by Giorigo Moroder, Italian record producer. Famous for his sythesizer productions, many of which were his own.Our favourite of the time was from da fabulus movie Midnight Express so we choses Chase from Midnight Express by Giorgio Moroder.

My linky this week did be inspired by the "miles" in Tucker's choice from last week. We did be spending the last few weeks watching cyclists goin miles and miles round France on their bikes and of corse we did be very appy to see Bradley Wiggins winnin. We know that Bradlee do be a bit of a mod and one of his favrit bands do be The Jam so we did be chosen "In The City" by the Jam cos this week we will be avin Bradlee and all the other cyclists in London for the Olympics and London be our city.

The winning linky was “I can see for miles” by The Who. If you woz on dis spaceship you would see for miles. This song woz used on the soundtrack for the film Apollo 13. Annuver song used on the soundtrack woz “Dark Side of the Moon” which was sung by Annie Lennox but I goes for the original version by Pink Floyd as my linky choice.

Last week we had The Who with I can See For Miles. I do know that this song featured on the soundtrack for the Apollo 13 film and to be able to hav seen this spaceship on its way to the moon you would have needed a very strong telescope! Once you had this you wold then need to put our eye to the Telescope which, as chance would have it, is the title of an album by the excellent K T Tunstall. On her "Eye to the Telescope" album the best song, and my link this week, is called "Suddenly I see". So she gets the telescope, puts it to her and and suddenly she can see for miles and miles.....maybe far enough to see spaceships!

Dis week we choose Park Life by Blur. Why? Cos The Who did write Quadrophenia, wot was made into a fillum starring Phil Daniels (we won't give away the ending here, but it woz dramatic!). He did later on do the talky bits on Park Life and woz in the video.

Well done Tucker on a super win last week; the godfather of lexieschain producing a brilliant link from the godfathers of rock: The Who & their I Can See For Miles. After the death of Keith Moon, drums for The Who were played by Kenney Jones. Kenney Jones had originally been in the band the Small Faces, which became The Faces after the addition of the taller pair of Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart and the subtraction of the smaller Steve Marriott.


My link shall be their last single: You Can Make Me Dance, Sing or Anything (Even Take the Dog for a Walk, Mend a Fuse, Fold Away the Ironing Board or any Other Domestic Shortcomings). Phew! This title is a "mile" long and indeed holds the record for longest song title in the Uk Single Chart.
