Lexie's Chain: The Sixty-Ninth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 69 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Kelso to choose. Last week we ad The Sex Pistols wiv God Save The Queen. So let's av a look now.

@terencetheterrier
Winning linky last *God Save The Queen” by The Sex Pistols. The lead singer was Johnny Rotten – real name John Lydon. In 2004 he took part in “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” which is filmed in Australia where they have lotsa big spiders and fings. After his “Celebrity” appearance he presented a documentary about insects and spiders called “John Lydon’s Megabugs” . So it is easy peasy to get a linky dis week which is “Boris The Spider” by The Who.

@parkerskat
When I think of a drug crazed, irreverent time, my mind wanders back to Woodstock, "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music". Jimi Hendrix closed the festival, including an, shall I say, unusual rendition of the US national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner". Hendrix included feedback and wah-wah to imitate the fighting in Viet Nam. Although I am not linking via time and shared band members or inspiration, I feel that both performers made their statement about current government policies. Well, and drugs were involved.

@patchdacat
Last week’s winning linky was “God Save the Queen “ by the Sex Pistols. I’m sulking cos I put up that same linky once before and it didn’t win. Anyway my choice this week is the British National Anthem “God Save The Queen”. Yes I noes it’s obvious but it is Jubilee Year so I’m gonna be patriotic.  And stand up when you listen to it. *salutes*.

@diamondbertie
The Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen really had us all scratching our heads, we don't know anything about punk music. Tried songs with a "queen" connection, she came up with Queen of the Night aria from Magic Flute only to reject it. Then Master suggested the 1994 musical film The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Lovely title song, a reminder of a well enjoyed funny/sad movie. Sorry it's such a tenuous link.

@bunnersandharvs
So yay to da cleva Kelso on his selckshun last week! But hrmmm wot dus one go wid afta da Sex Pistols? Well afta much discushun we has gone wid Right Said Fred - I'm too Sexy. BOL! Why? Cus dey only made it to da 2nd spot on da UK hit chart like da Sexy Pistols and dey uses Sex in da title of der songy! Plus we just like dancin to da songy oh & we is so sexy for dis shirt, baby it hurts.... BOL!!

@marleyterrier
hmmmmm so many possibilitees for da chain this week. Sumfing bout the Queen? Sumfing about God? Ah ah....sumfing bout weppons...!! Yes. so our linky this week do be The GUns of Brixton by da Clash and also cos it ave personal linky for us cos a familee member do like playin along to this song and the singer did go to his skool too! Is troo...

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Last week's winner was "God Save the Queen" by The Sex Pistols. Dey was UK punk rock band managed by Malcom McLaren. Before dat McLaren was in US promoting da New York Dolls who inspired his interest in da punk scene which he took back to da UK. Da New York Dolls in turn inspired da Ramones, Blondie & Talking Heads. So me suggest "One Way or Another" by Blondie as me linky for dis week.

@djladylexie
Ok god save the queen .. Sex pistols. Sex Pistols was managed by Malcolm McLaren. He dun a few successful singles one of which was Madame Butterfly. This is based on the story of da opera of da same name by Puccini and yo can't get furver from punk dan opera right? So dat ma linky Madame Butterfly Malcolm McLaren.

@rosieterrier
Okay- God Save Da Queen by the Sexy Pistols dus be a punky song from 1977. The Skids were also formed in 1977 and were of the same genre. They sang a song called 'Working for the Yankee Dollar'. This phrase was included in the song 'Rum and Cola' by the Andrews Sisters. They sang songs written by Cole Porter who also wrote 'Ive a Shooting Box in Scotland'. Aztec Camera contributed a song to the Cole Porter tribute album Red Hot and Blue. But- my chainy link do be Aztec Camera 'Oblivious'
(Bias??? Here??? Noooo!)

@wonderwinger
Well done to Kelso for giving us God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols, as our linky this week. This single reached no. 2 in the UK charts the song being controversially (some say deliberately by the BBC) kept from no. 1 by Rod Stewart's double A side of cover versions: the Cat Stevens song First Cut is the Deepest and Crazy Horse's I Don't Want To Talk About It. I Don't Want To Talk About It was covered again by Everything But The Girl my linky this week. Both bands were named after shops, the Sex Pistols being named after a punk fashion boutique & EBTG taking their name from the sign of Turner's Furniture Shop in Hull, that stated: For all your bedroom needs we sell everything but the girl.

An da winner ... as chosen by Kelso .... dus be ................... @wonderwinger!! Yay well done Briar! Nice linky.
So get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Briar.

Lexie's Chain: The Sixty-Eighth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 68 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Bunners & Harvs to choose. Last week we ad The Shamen and Ebeneezer Goode. So let's av a look at dem now.

@wonderwinger
Congrats & much applause to the Bunbury & the Harvey for their magnificent win last week. Moving on from The Shamen & Ebeneezer Goode I have chosen as my link They Might Be Giants with Birdhouse in your Soul. The Shamen were signed to the Indie record label One Little Indian as were They Might Be Giants. This song is about a lickle night light that takes the form of a sweet blue canary who proclaims itself to be protector of you & your room whilst you sleep.

@terenceterrier
The winning linky song “Ebeneezer Goode” was alleged to be promoting drug use because the refrain sounded like “E’s are good” (where E = Ecstasy the dance drug) and there were many other drug references in the song. A group who took their name from the drug culture was Dexys Midnight Runners. In this instance the first part of the band name Dexys came from Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) and “Midnight Runners” was a reference to the energy it gave to users allowing them to dance all night. For my linky I choose a live version of “Come On Eileen” which was a No 1 hit single for them .

@patchdacat
Winning linky last week was Ebeneezer Goode by The Shamen. This makes me think of another character with same name – Ebeneezer Scrooge – who was a character in Charles Dicken’s novel A Christmas Carol. in 1992 there was a stage musical version “Scrooge: The Musical” so for my linky I choose the song “Thank You Very Much” which was sung by Scrooge.

@marleyterrier
Last week we did see Bunners n Harvs choose a song called Ebeneezer Goode which did get to be contrevershull cos peeps fink it did ave references to drugs in it disguised as cockernee ryhmin slangs. "Has anybody got any Veras?" ("Vera Lynns" being rhyming slang for "skins" or rolling papers) and "Got any salmon?" ("salmon and trout" being rhyming slang for "snout" or tobacco). Norty, norty!! He he. Anyway, we did get to finking bout rhyming slang in da music and of corse that made us fink about Dj called Pete Tong….It's all gone a bit Pete Tong or Wrong!! So, our link this week be The Beta Band and Troubles from da movie soundtrack of da film of It's All Gone a Bit Pete Tong….

@diamondbertie
Here it is, last week's choice is The Shaman - Ebeneezer Goode which was controversial as it was glorifying drugs. My choice is Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds by The Beatles. Why? Because it is also inspired by drugs and drug taking.

@rosieterrier
So last week was a song by The Shaman. Will Sinnott (rip) a band member, had a guitar making father. Apparently he made a guitar for the legendary John Martyn. John Martyn wrote and sang 'May You Never', Eric Clapton also covered this song. Eric Clapton was known as 'slow hands' for his guitar playing skills. My chainy do so be -yes-you've guessed it-'Slow Hands' by The Pointer Sisters.

@kelsoterrier
This week a link to Ebeneezer Goode by The Shamen is sought. Well, due to its underlying drug related lyrics Eveneezer Goode was actually banned by the BBC. In this Jubilee year that reminded me of another controversial song that was censored by the BBC in the year of our Queen's silver Jubilee in 1977. This song was God Save The Queen by The Sex Pistols and is my link for this week. As well as not being broadcast it is rumoured the BBC singles chart was actually "fixed" to ensure the song never made it to No1 instead peaking at No2.

@borderpup
According to our sources (ok, a certain online encyclopaedia) The Shamen were originally called Alone Again Or, which was a tribute to a song by the band called Love. This dus be one of Mum's favrit songs ever! Anyhoo, back to the competishun. The Damned were also influenced by Love and recorded Alone Again Or, and my choice is another cover they recorded, Eloise, wot did turn out to be their biggest hit (and annuver of mum's favrits!).

@bvfeyj
First ob all me say @bunnersandharvs did pick da Ebeneezer Goode by The Shamen which wuz contraveshul cuz supposed to be about drugs so me pick anuvver song some say be about drugs also (me not fink so!). Dis be "Mighty Quinn" by Manfred Mann. So as dey say, "come on and sing everybody!"  "Mighty Quinn" by Manfred Mann

@djladylexie
The Shamen was part of da rave scene an massive influence on acid house. Annuva band wot was bit at dat time as well was called Orbital. The Shamen song was bowt Ebeneezer Goode. Well it was bowt drugs really. Obital dun a song wot was about a fictional character too!! Is called Doctor Who! Here it dus be as ma linky:

An da winner .... as chosen by ....  @bunnersandharvs .... dus be ........ @kelsoterrier wiv God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols. Wow, dat's a toughie! Da boys telled me dat:
