Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 102 of #lexieschain - the final chain of 2012. So lets see wot we gots dis week.

@kelsoterrier
Last week we had The Mamas & The Papas with Dedicated to the one I love. Cass Elliot of the M&P's died in 1974 in the bedroom of a flat at 9 Curzon Place in London. Bizarrely Keith Moon of The Who also died in this very room 4 years later! The property was owned by singer Harry Nilsson. I think Harry Nilsson was probably dedicating his version of "Without You" to they one he loved because in it he sings that he "can't live if living is without you". So my link this week is Harry Nilsson and "Without You". (Ed Lexie: Thanks for makin mum blub!!)

@terenceterrier
The linky to follow iz “Dedicated to the one I love” by the Mamas & the Papas. The linky I am choosin iz dedicated to those who lost their lives at the Hillsborough football disaster. It also follow the family theme – mama – papa – bruvver. This is the last lexieschain linky of 2012 and my linky is the last no 1 record of 2012. So my linky be The Justice Collective’s Hillsborough Tribute “He Ain’t Heavy He’s my Brother”. (Ed Lexie: Thanks for makin mum blub again!!)

@diamondbertie
Here is my link. I choose California Dreaming sung by David Hasselhoff. Why? last weeks winner was This Is Dedicated To The One I Love, they also sang California Dreaming. Good luck everyone and a happy new year. (Ed Lexie: Thanks for makin mum remember how she used to fancy the Hoff!!!)

@claptonterrier
Last week Patch chose a song by the Mamas and the Papas. Their most famous song is probably California Dreamin which is about walking on a cold winter's day in London and wishing they were back home where it is sunny and warm. We sympathise with that as the rain hammers down outside our window and so we choose another song about being back in California. This one is Back to California by Carol King.

@bunnersandharvs
Patch we is so proud you did win Lexie's chain last week and says your da Mammas and Pappas sang some paw tapping stuff but our linky is gonna be very simple dis week. We is going with your theme of ones we luvs and says we is thinking bout so many we has lost and loves which makes us think of da songy Auld Lang Syne. cause we will always remember our pals wot we lost but loves and will never be forgot which means we is dedicating dis to da ones we loves! (Ed Lexie: And here we go with the blubbing again!)

@djladylexie
Whisper a little prayer for me my baby dat is from da song This Is Dedicated To The One I Love. Course, as we dus know  Whisprin also associated wiv gossipin an can lead to all sorts of fings. Just ask George Michael he knows! Well he said so In dat song Careless Whisper. So dat is ma linky – careless whisper.

@bvfeyj
Last week @patchdacat did win wif The Mamas and The Papas "Dedicated to the One I Love". Me did fink for a second ob just going wif da lub fing and just picking anuvver lub song, but me not wanted to do dat. So me did look fur some fing else fur link and found dat briefly before dey was Mamas and Papas dey was The Magic Cyrcle. Dey not liked da name so dey did change it, but dat did gib me linky to anuvver band called The Cyrkle. Dat name and da spelling was finked up by John Lennon ob da Beatles. (me fink none ob da 1960s bands could spell!) . Dey did hab dere biggest hit in 1966, da year before The Mamas and The Papas "Dedicated to the One I Love". It was called "Red Rubber Ball". Dat sound like my kind ob song me fink! (me does lub to play ball) so dat is my linky!

@wonderwinger
Well done Patchy paws with your Christmas pressie lexieschain win. Today, I looked outside for inspawration fir my linky and shock horror it was sunny. Before I could reach for my sunshades the linky was as obvious as Boris Johnson's ping pong prowess.

The Mamas and The Papas were managed and produced by Lou Adler. Lou Adler did a beautiful rendition on the harmonica of the Gerschwin classic "Summertime". This song was also a hit for the lovely Janis Joplin and it is her version that shall be my linky. The Mamas and The Papas wrote their song "Pearl" as a tribute to Joplin after her tragic death.

@Smcheetham (new player welcome welcome!)
Hi chain suggestion is Ewan McColl The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face the link being its by Kirsty's Dad and is a lovely song.

@rosieterrier
Last week was a song dedicated to the one I love. I have been finking and finking about this and at the risk of upsetting my mama I have taken this theme and chosen 'Rump Steak Serenade' by Fats Waller cos I am dedicated to lovin steak. Nommms..........Droooools.

So, da winner dis week .... as chosen by @patchdacat  ... dus be ..... @bunnersandharvs wiv Auld Lang Syne. A bootiful number that. Yay! Well done ma pals Harvs And Lord P!!

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Harvs! The first chainy of 2013!

Now that is the year over, so dussnt forget 11th January 2013 we be avin our awards ceremony so you will have to wait til then to find out who dun what!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred And First Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 101 of #lexieschain. All fun an excitement as we near the end of the year an the penultimate chainy! So lets see wot we gots dis week!

@djladylexie
My linky does be Kirsty MacColl and Don't Come The Cowboy With Me Sunny Jim! What!!?? But Why? Well, let me explain. Gram Parsons and EmmyLou Harris for their country music roots. Gram also loved spendin time in Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Bono, from U2 also spent time in the California desert and their album, The Joshua Tree is reference to the same place, loved by the band.

Steve Lillywhite did the remixes on The Joshua Tree who was the then husband of Bono's pal, Kirsty MacColl, who also set the running order for the album. Kirsty MacColl was also known for her country influences in her moosic too. So, desert and country music can only make you fink of one fing ---- cowboys!!

@patchdacat
Borderpup’s winning linky was “In Our Hour Of Darkness” by Emmylou Harris & Gram. I see that Emmylou Harris also recorded a song “Darkest Hour Is Just Before Dawn”. These title words also appear in the song “Dedicated to the one I love” which was by The Mamas & The Papas. This be my chosen linky.

@diamondbertie
I had to scratch my head hard to think of a really good link to go with last week's winner which was In My Hour Of Darkness. I could not think, my mind kept turning to Fairytale of New York by the Pogues I never think it's Christmas till I hear that

@terenceterrier
Okey Dokey I needs to link from In My Hour Of Darkness By Gram to a very speshull songy. Well the hour of darkness is midnight. So I says to myself dat midnight is 12 hours. I stays wiv dat number but wants 12 days instead cos my linky be “The Twelve Days Of Christmas” by da Animals of YouTube.

@bvfeyj
Last week we did hab winner from @borderpup In My Hour of Darkness by Gram Parsons. Good linky and nice pick by @claptonterrier who turns out to be quite da poet too! When finkin' about a linky me did discober dat Gram Parsons was only 26 when he did die and den me dis see dat he died at da Joshua Tree Inn. Dat make me and mom boaf fink ob U2 and dere album (mom say it dere best album) Joshua Tree. So dis week me do pick fur me linky "With or Without You" by U2 from da Joshua Tree album.

@claptonterrier (first chainy yay!!)
Indie chose a very nice song by Gram Parsons last week. I read that Gram Parsons was a member of The Byrds for a brief time and of course we all know that The Birds was a film by Mr Alfred Hitchcock starring Tippi Hedren and we will be seeing quite a bit about that on out televisions this Christmas I see from the trailers. So I looked and looked for music by Mr Hitchcock but i don't think he made any and neither did Miss Hedren. So I have done the next best thing and chosen a song by Robyn Hitchcock…..its called Ole Tarantual….I hope no one is scared of spiders…

@wonderwinger
Many congrats to Indie on last week's win. Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris also did a cover of the Boudleaux Bryant song Love Hurts. This song has been covered by lots of artists from the Everley Brothers, through to Cher through to Jason Donovan. However, I shall choose as my linky the version recorded by Keith Richards and Norah Jones for the Gram Parsons tribute concert.

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to da @Borderpup for a cleva linky. dis has put me to da testy here so i is gonna be quick! Last week's linky was EmmyLou Harris singing a sad old toone bout da dark hours. so it gots us thinking bowt dark hours and long days and we did start cryin (snorts not rilly) but we did think about dat songy Crying.

So da linky we is going wid is 'Crying' sungy by KD Lang wot was also influenced by EmmyLooopy Doo too! Hit it kaaadeee......

So, da winner dis week .... as chosen by @borderpup  ... dus be ..... @patchdacat wiv the Mamas and the Papas and This Is Dedicated To The One I Love. Yay! Well done ma pal.  Close second was me and third was Briar.

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Patchy! The final chainy of 2012!! No pressure heehee.

Is still all to play for and dussnt forget 11th January 2013 we be avin our awards ceremony so you will have to wait til then to find out who dun what! Watch out for da bloggy bowt it.

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 30 December 2012. Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundredth Chain

Hello pals! Wow! Pals I can't believe it 100 chains - nearly 2 years of fun and great moosic! Last week we did av specshul chainy to pay our deepest respects to our dearest pal Marley.

Marley won the chain week 99 which I like to fink is a wonderful piece of karma. So, this week, we arksed @ClaptonTerrier to be the judge on behalf of Marley. He was very appy to an I really ope Clapton does join in da fun wiv us.

@bvfeyj
Da Little Feat song “Willin’” seem especially appropriate. As Marley told us it about “keeping on wiv life no matter wot be frown at you” an’ Marley always did dat fur sure. Little Feat’s singer, Lowell George, did write dis song and he himself did die ob a heart attack at age 34. Da song was included on Linda Ronstadt’s album “Heart Like a Wheel”. So me pick dis week is annuvver Linda Ronstadt cover, dis one ob a Neil Young song “Love Is a Rose”.

@patchdacat
The track “Willin” by Little Feat was given to us by our much missed music maestro Marley. l learn their name came about cos one of the band had little feet. So to be different I wondered who had big feet and thought of Big Foot aka the Yeti aka The Abominable Snowman. After Christmas time we will be seeing the film “The Snowman and the Snowdog” but cos it’s not on yet we doesn’t what the music will be so I takes the song from the first film “Walking in the air” .

video_object.png

This be the original version with Peter Auty. Also it does be a sad film cos the snowman died as did the winner of our last linky @marleyterrier.

@borderpup
This week we had some finking to do, trying to come up wiv a linky worthy of the pawsome Little Feat and Willin'. The did record with and inspire many famous musicians. One of them was Emmylou Harris, who was a backing singer on one of their albums and also played in a benefit concert for the family of the lead singer, Lowell George. Emmylou herself was 'discovered' by Gram Parsons, and recorded lots of songs wiv him. I am choosing the song In My Hour of Darkness which she co-wrote with Gram cos their voices did sound lovely togeva. There isn't much video of Gram, so this is just the song.

video_object.png

@diamondbertie
Here goes with the chain, two weeks ago we lost our dear friend Marley who chose Willin by Little Feat. And he won! Which made all the more poignant. My entry is Bob Marley (it had to be) singing Three Little Birds. Good luck everyone.

@djladylexie
So losin our dear pal Marley was a very sad time an his win of da chainy was so wonderful. My linky dis week does be continuin wiv da feem of keepin going no matta wot live frows at you as Marley imself said. I chooses Starlight by Slash

@terenceterrier
Okay I needs a linky to follow on from “Willin” by Little Feat. I notes that dis band released an album dis year called Rooster Rag. So for my linky I chose “Little Red Rooster” by the Rolling Stones.

@patchdacat
The track “Willin” by Little Feat was given to us by our much missed music maestro Marley. l learn their name came about cos one of the band had little feet. So to be different I wondered who had big feet and thought of Big Foot aka the Yeti aka The Abominable Snowman. @rosieterrier
Our Marley did win the chainy last time so I try to follow this. His linky was by the band Little Feat, so in keeping with the anatomical theme (s'not my fault if dey can't spell ;-) I have chosen 'Jake the Peg' by Rolf Harris. Dis song make me giggle......two legs, three legs? How odd!

@bunnersandharvs
Dis week we says is still hard to keep dry eyes afta Marley did go OTRB but is so fittin dat he did win his last entry and it was a good one too!

so den, der has been much discushun abowt da linky for his choicy (wispas - won't say nuttin more) but we goin wid his comment 'dat you keep on wiv life no matter wot life throws at you'......and we says den why not 'Make em Laugh' frum Singing in da Rain....Short people have long face....And long people have short faces....Big people have little humor.....And little people have no humor at all!

Wehey...danses on da peeano....

@wonderwinger
Big welcome & hugs to @claptonterrier on his 1st judging assignment. Good luck!
My link is Captain Beaky by Captain Beaky and his Band (Not Forgetting Hissing Sid!!!!)
Someone's gone bonkers I hear you cry... Well maybe but it's Christmas.
Little Feat was formed by Lovell George with various members of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. One of them Estrada later left Little Feat to join Captain Beefheart. Hence the "Captain" theme. Also, for a long while during the seventies I did believe that Captain Beefheart & Beaky were one and the same.

An here's how Clapton telled me who won:

We had a song about roses which tickled our toeses
And one about birds which we've so often heard
We watched them this morning eating their seeds
Marley was keen on animals needs
The next one by Slash really went with a bash
And we all the love the Stones to the tips of our bones
Lola likes antlers to chew chew in the garden
She eats them up quick then…*burp*…beg your pardon
We waked in the air for several hours
And floated along while Gram sang with power
Marley liked napping and he would approve
Of any good song that was low in the groove
You've finished it up with Rolf and young Jake
And a song from a film a good Sunday makes
And on Sunday each week, like any good loafer
Marley was found to be glued to the sofa
Thank you my friends for your wonderful choices
If they were cars they would all be Rolls Royces
But we must choose a winner for our friends and relations
And so we don't need to call for the United Nations
We remember that Marley was a terrible old ham….
….and plump in the end for Emmy and Gram.

In uvva words, da winner dis week .... as chosen by @claptonterrier  ... dus be ..... @borderpup wiv In My Hour of Darkness. Yay! Well done ma pal.

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Indie!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 23 December 2012. Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain: The Marley Special .. a tribute to a special friend

Hello pals! Dis week we put the chain on hold. As you know, we lost a very dear friend - Marley - and those of us wot play the chain fort we pay tribute to Marley dis week as a keen player and winner of Lexie's Chain.

So, here are our musical tributes to a wonderful pal who will be missed more than words can ever say.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Me so bery sorry to hear dat dearest Marley hab gone OTRB. Me hab cried all day, but den me finks, it so good dat Marley did win da #lexieschain dis one last time.

Me does know we will all miss Marley so much (eben Lola, da dog wiv no brane will miss him me fink). We does send lub and sympaffy to typist. Run free Marley! Flights ob angels sing thee to thy rest. Your courage and humor are an example to us all! We keep you in our hearts always!

Me finks dis duz be da song fur Marley! I Don Quixote:

So, onward to glory my furiend. We salute your courage, your generous spirit, and your gigantic heart full ob lub. The stars will burn brighter in the night sky.

@terenceterrier
I would like to dedicate the song “Simply The Best” by Tina Turner to my pal Marley. As a humble werkin terrier I iz not good wiv werds but the title sez it all – Marley woz the bestest bestest of the bestest pal ever an anipal could have and I am so proud dat we were pals on twitta.

@patchdacat
I followed Marley’s timeline avidly every day and thought he was a truly wonderful anipal . But behind the witty amusing & very caring Twitter persona was a very real and very loved little brown dog – an ambassador for Border Terriers worldwide. So loved was this little BT that tears have been shed for him across the world at the news of his passing. So the song I would like played for him is “Bright Eyes” by Art Garfunkel as I think this is appropriate for all four legged pals when they go OTRB.

I fink I want take that - rule the world. The words in song mean a lot and I fink they relate to our feelings towards Marley.
Xx

@kelsoterrier
A very sad week and I anticipate a lot of sad songs. My song however links to one of my fondest and happiest memories of Marley....The Great Fridge Raid. This was a hilarious story in his bloggings so if you haven't read it please do. Marley's blogs were always great and always brightened up my day. Marley took his name from a great musician and he loved his guitar songs. So my tribute song is a guitar anthem that features on the Fridge Raiders TV advert wot be Hank Marvin with Apache. Goodbye For You dear pal, you will be sadly missed...

@rosieterrier
We do be celebrating the life of the wonderful and incomparable Marley dis week, so........as was only right, Marley won last week with the country and western group Little Feat. Well dis, of course made me think of the great Johnny Cash and his song '(Terrier) Orange Blossom'. Well........as we all know, according to 'The Marley Colour Principle' Mr Johnny was actually singing about the colour what hoomans believe to be pink and so my chainy do be Nick Drake 'Pink Moon'. ;-). Thank you Marley for the inspiration and the happiness you gave us xxxx.

@wonderwinger (Briar)
Marley you were inspirational, I cherished your friendship & all of your tweets to me and feel sad that you've left us at such a young age.

I was going to dedicate "My Heart will Go On" by Sealion Dijon but I can imagine Marley sighing & his eyes rolling at the thought. Instead I shall choose Marley's entry for the 88th Lexieschain: Eric Clapton: Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Until we meet again, love always,
Briar

@bridietheborder
Sweet Thing by Van Morrison. For sweet Marley.

@borderpup
We make this dedicayshun for our special friend Marley, who did hold my paw when I was new to Twitter and introdoosed us to lots of new friends and a whole new language! We fank him and typist for all the fun and useful forts and articles and guidance from the posse HQ. We would advise the squirrels of Ashtead to not rest on their lorrels cos they will have Lola to look out for, and if she need any help I can pop round .... We did dedicate dis song to him at nipclub earlier in the week, and Mum and me haven’t bin able to get it out of our heads - You've Got A Friend. So have a listen, sing along and let’s send all our forts to typist, mum, William, Lola and Clapton. Although it is a slow song we hope they will find it comforting as we do.
Finking of you always, Marley my chum xxxx

@diamondbertie
A sad time for all who got to know this little brown dog. Marley said I was one on his first followers and I am so happy that I clicked the "Follow" button because his tweets were a joy I always looked forward to them.

It's always so hard to let go of a loved pet but we have to say to ourselves that it is our last act of love we can give them.

I was so lucky that his family to time out on their way to Cornwall to visit us and he, Lola and his family were a pleasure to meet. I send them my sincere love and condolences.
If asked for music to accompany this, I choose Bob Marley"s (who else) One Love.

@dogstoyevsky (me aka DJ Lady Lexie)
I can't even begin to find the words to say what I feel. So many wonderful tributes to a wonderful pal. We will miss you more than anything my friend but you will never be forgotten.  I had to think long and hard about this so many I could of gone with. So I decided on a band wot we boaf love - ELO wiv Shine A Little Love.

Gone but never forgotten ma pal xxxx
