Hello pals! Welcome to Week 92 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Briar to choose. Last time was Dire Straits wiv Sultans of Swing. Let's see wot happened this week!

Last week’s Tucker’s winning linky was a collaboration wiv Dire Straights & Eric Clapton who performed “Sultans of Swing” at the Nelson Mandela 70th birfday concert. In da lyriks there iz the line “You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords” So I looks for annuver collaboration wiv Eric Clapton and finds one for a tribute concert for a geetar playin George at the 2002 Concert for George. The linky be “While my guitar gently weeps”. George Harrison wrote the songy & it originally appeared on The Beatles White Album & Eric Clapton played lead guitar on the original recording.

The winning linky last week “Sultans of Swing” was by Dire Straits & Eric Clapton. In the lyrics there is a reference to Guitar George. Eric Clapton was close friends with George Harrison & fancied George’s wife Pattie Boyd but she told him to get lost at first. This prompted Eric to write songs for the album “Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs” for his band at that time Derek & the Dominos. “Layla” was inspired by a classical Persian poem and there used to be Sultans in that part of the world which links back to previous songy. Eric Clapton has performed an accoustic rendition of Layla on stage with Mike Kopfler who was in Dire Straits. I prefer this live solo. Any old excuse to have an Eric Clapton linky I say.

I have a song in my head which I cannot remember the name or anything so here is my 2nd choice, Born Free sung by Matt Munro, it keeps the African theme and the words are all about freedom as well.

Well we says we is so happy dat Tucker did win da lexieschain last week! It was a supa linky and got us to thinking bowt dem Dire Straits and who else dey sanged wid and one of dem hoomans wot dey did sing and play wif was Eric Clapton. So our linky follers along wif Eric Clapton. So den guess who else Eric did sing wid? You gots it, George Harrison. And well den guess wot else, uhm Eric did also run, run, run away wif George Harrison's wife, Pattie Boyd too (opa and well uh oh). Anyway, our linky dis week is wif da George Harrison and one of his songs 'Give me Love. Whoshty we is egghausted to but dat is da end of dat one.

Congratulations Tucker on winning last week's chainy giving us the super-dupa Dire Straits and Sultans of Swing. My link this week will be Private Dancer by Tina Turner. Why? Well, this song was written by Mark Knopfler and was originally meant for a Dire Straits album.åç Also, Tina Turner did a duet with Eric Clapton in 1987 called Tearing us Apart.

Well done Mr Tucker-you has a cleva musical mind. Dis week I look at "be quiet mum", sorry-I look at Eric Clapton -he be furry brother of Marley and Lola "what, mum? Wrong Clapton! Yikes". Okays, hmmmm, I see Eric Clapton -the world famous musician-as well as duetting with Dire Straits has duetted with Bob Dylan on many songs. He sang 'Knockin' on Heaven's door' this was written by Dylan and also sung by Bob Dylan in a duet with Van Morrison. Well I dus love Van Morrison so dis week I choose for my linky 'Someone Like You' to warm your hearts.

Tucker has chosen Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits….and we did see that the riggeenall version of dat song was made at place called Pathways Studio in Lundon. Lots of famuss people was makin records there cloodin Madness, Elvis Costello, The Police, Squeeze an Haircut One Hundred. We also did read that Pathway is called the 'delivery room' at the birth of British punk - it was here that The Damned record their debut single 'New Rose' in September 1976, produced by Nick Lowe. So our link this week duss be (I love the Sound of) Breaking Glass by Nick Lowe….

Dis week we has to do linky from 'Sultans of Swing'. Well, according to my *ahem* 'research', we do see that the master track for this song was used on the video game ‘Guitar Hero 5’. So, what over songs have been used in video games, we did wonder. Our choice is ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra, which was used in ‘Tony Hawks’ Underground 2’.

While I was pondering on last week’s linky “Tempted” the phrase “lead us not into temptation” from The Lord’s Prayer flitted into my furry head. So moving on from that I choose “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison as my linky this week.

We hab brilliant linky from Briar wif “Tempted” by band called Squeeze. Since me did not know dem me did look up and found to me amazement dat dey comes from place called Deptford in SE London, which also where da band Dire Straits did start out around da same time. So me does choose song by Dire Straits set in dat same locale “way on down south in London town” which also was dere first hit record in boaf UK & US. It one ob mom’s faborite songs so she picked dis one, but me did pick da version wif Eric Clapton performed at da Nelson Mandela 70th birfday tribute concert cuz it was da best libe version me found (and dat eben link back to da Specials wif dere anti-apartheid song named for Nelson Mandela!) So wifout further ado here be Dire Straits wif Eric Clapton performing “Sultans of Swing”!

Wow Briar you do be on a brilliant winning streak. Dis week I do look at the links between Squeeze and Mr Elvis Costello. Elvis Costello did co-produce the Squeeze album East Side Story and sing backing vocals on 'Tempted'. This song is about being unfaithful, either from the perspective of the person who cheated or the person who was cheated on. My linky is 'High Fidelity' by Elvis Costello. This song relates to a man who wishes to be faithful to one woman who won't be with him. (I think so anyway--hooman emotions being so weird n all-and me just a straightforward doggie!)

Last week was the wonderful Squeeze, one of mum's fave bands, wiv Tempted. Squeeze had hits wiv different singers, and Paul Carrack sang lead on Tempted. He has had a long career boaf solo and wiv bands. One very famous band he was in was the 'supergroup' Mike & the Mechanics, where he sang lead on their biggest hits. There were many very talented members of the band, and one of the original members, the late Paul Young sang lead on 'A Beggar on a Beach of Gold', and this is the song we choose for our linky.

Tempted by the fruit of another …. that is a line from Tempted wot Briar done from Squeeze. Hmmm so temptation is da feme and erm …. Fruit! A song about fruit and temptation. Ok well here goes. On da album called the Red Shoes, Kate Bush does be tempted by the bootiful red shoes wot will make her dance and dance. So that she can rid herself of the curse of the red shoes, she finds out that she must sing and sing and eat the music! A line from dat song is split him open, like a pomegranit! So is ma song for dis week Eat The Music – Kate Bush.

Red Red Wine by Tony Tribe. Why? "Rudy, A Message to You" is a song of David Livingston and covered by The Specials. Livingston is not just a musician but a producer and he worked together with Tony Tribe for "Red Red Wine", another lovely reggae influenced song.

The Specials also did a song called Nelson Mandela wot is a song calling for da release of Nelson Mandela and their anti-apartheid message to da world. Ma song I be choosin dus be Biko by Peter Gabriel wot also wrote a song about another anti-apartheid activist, Steven Biko, who died from beatins and torture whilst under interrogation . So dat ma linky. Biko – Peter Gabriel.

Dere record company was Chrysalis Records which was also da record company ob Jethro Tull who did a song called Too Old to Rock and Roll and Too Young to Die, which me did fink ob. Playing trombone was Rico Rodriguez he had also played on the Dandy Livingston original, later he would also collaborate with Jools Holland in his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. Jools Holland was one if the founding members of Squeeze. Squeeze's first success in America came with my linky, Tempted, a song produced by Elvis Costello who also produced The Specials - A Message to you Rudi.

Here is my entry for this week's link. Last weeks' winner was The Pretenders' Brass in Pocket which is about money or rather lack of money. My choice by keeping to the theme is Buddy Can You Spare A Dime? by Peter Paul and Mary.

In the video for Brass In Pocket, Chrissie Hynde plays a waitress who lookin for some to make her feel special, sadly it didn't appen for her. But it did appen for annuva waitress in a song.  In fact, she was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar. Yes, I does choose Human League wiv Don’t You Want Me .

Dis so hard cuz dere be so many eggsellent choices for linky to The Pretenders “Brass in Pocket”. But after much soul searching and listening, me does hab to say, me choice is "The Great Pretender" by Freddie Mercury. Originally recorded by The Platters in 1955 and the inspiration for da name ob Chrisse Hynde’s band The Pretenders, it hab been covered by many uvver artists, but me decided on Freddy Mercury’s version. (A bit “over the top” perhaps but bery much fun to watch.)

Whatsername from The Pretenders used to be married to Ray Davies of The Kinks, so to redress the balance from all the Scottishness last week, we fort it would be a good idea to choose somefing really English. Of corse, The Kinks recorded a song called Lola, but we dint fink we would stand a chance of that song winning wiv Marley choosing, so we have picked Sunny Afternoon, wot they do be singing in the snow, which must be a 1960s style joke or somefing.

Moving on from The Pretenders I shall give you The Kinks. Why? Well, The Pretenders first single was a cover of The Kinks "Stop your sobbing". The Kinks had so many good songs "Sunny Afternoon", "Waterloo Sunset", "Dedicated Follower of Fashion", "Well Respected Terrier oops I mean Man" it was hard to know which one would be appropriate. Then I remembered myself, of course it has to be "Lola" in honour of this week's judge's sisfur. She's so lucky to have a song written about her.

Last week's winner was The Pretenders with Brass In Pocket or, to give it is full name, Brass In Pocket (I'm Special). The song was used in the Special K cereal adverts in Australia. My link this week is therefore The Specials with a song that was released in the same year (1979) wot be called A Message To You Rudy.
