Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 182 of #lexieschain. So last time was Maggie wiv  Rocky Feme Gonna Fly Now. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@WOtterface
Last week's winner was the theme from Rocky. All we remember about Rocky was the running bits, up steps and stuff. So we've chosen a song that features running in the video. Lykke Li with I Follow Rivers...

@diamondbertie
Greetings, @maggietkat won with a great choice of link with Gonna Fly Now by Maynard Ferguson the music, Maynard is indeed a consummate performer on the trumpet.
I would like to offer Kenny Ball with Midnight in Moscow. Why another wonderful performer. Why Midnight in Moscow? Many many years ago when the last item on Radio 4 was the Shipping Forecast they would change to BBC World Service the gap was filled with Midnight in Moscow.

@skye613
Congrats to Maggie ! The link this week was the beautiful "Gonna a Fly Now" . My week this week is a response from October Project. " Return to Me "

@smcheetham
Chain time again well done Maggie for last week. So finding a link from Gonna Fly Now took me to all those songs about flying there are so many to choose from. So I decided to go with the first one that popped into my head and that's Big Bird by Eddie Floyd. Enjoy this joyful song of anticipation and that amazing brass.

@freddie_bt
Rocky is a film about a washed up boxer dat never fulfilled his potential bein givin a chance at da American Dream by World Champion Apollo Creed. Our linky is a singer who wuz inspired as a boy by seein James Brown performin at The Apollo Theatre but his life wuz filled wiv tragedy n failure n in his 60s he wuz scrapin a livin doin a James Brown tribute act. He wuz spotted by a record label boss who said you av a great voice you shud sing as yourself Charles Bradley. Deservedly he got a belated chance to achieve da American Dream n we got a great Soul singer. Eres Charles Bradley wiv da fab Menahan Street Band playin a stormin set, "Heartaches and Pain" which recounts his brother's death followed by "No Time for Dreamin" etc. Like Rocky da life of Charles Bradley is a heartwarmin tale of a luvly man dat finally fulfils his dreams

@bunnersandharvs
Oh so a veree big well dun to yoo Maggie on da winning linky last week from Rocky - Gonna Fly Now'. This gots us thinking that once you dus be flying and winning and wotnots dat you feeling likes nothing's gonna stop you now. Sooooo, you gots it, we is going with Starship's songy 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' oh no....

@terenceterrier
Da winning linky woz da Rocky feem “Gonna fly Now” by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. I finks if a whole ochestra wanna fly you’d need a big plane. So for my linky I chose “Leaving On a Jet Plane “ by Peter Paul and Mary. Dis toon always makes mum sad cos it woz in da charts when she graduated from University and her very best friends were off to werk theer way round da werld as a sorta gap year before they started werk properly and they were all leaving on a jet plane and she woz left behind.

@djladylexie
Our linky dus be Papa Was A Rolling Stone from The Temptations. What? How come you arks? Well, Sylvester Stallone played Rocky in the movie about Rocky Balboa. Slyvester Stallone, Arnold Swarzenegger, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis all financed the restaurant chain Planet Hollywood togeva. Bruce Willis had a brief dabble wiv singing and produced an album Return of Bruno which featured a number of well known Motown numbers. His backing singers included Booker T Jones, Ruth Pointer and The Temptations. So we pay tribute to one of Motown' greats wiv Papa Was A Rolling Stone.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Maggie ......... dus be ......... @freddie_bt wiv ! Your turn next week ;)

Ere wot Maggie said bowty it: Well done everyone! Every link was amazing! I heard lots of incredible brass, walked down Mom's memory lane (mom's boyfriend sang "leaving on a jet plane" to her as he was going off to the Navy to avoid the Army and Viet Nam), saw cat graffiti, and danced with mom to several songs (so embarrassed with that one, but we love our Motown). I am going with Charles Bradley and the Menahan Street Band. I loved the story of pursuing your love in the face of adversity.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 3rd August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty First Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 181 of #lexieschain. So last time was Freddie wiv Kraftwerk an Tour De France. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well done, Freddy! The instrumental Kraftwerks song about a sporting event put me in mind of another incredible sports related instrumental number. The theme from the movie "Rocky", Gonna Fly Now, was recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra, featuring Maynard on trumpet. How he hits those high notes is beyond me!

@skye613
Great tune Freddie! Perhaps it is the history major in me but I am always grabbed by dates. Kraftwerk was formed in Dusseldorf in 1970. An extremely tumultuous year, 1970 saw the deaths of Joplin and Hendrix and 4 students at Kent State in Ohio. My choice this week is " Ohio" C,S, N & Y.

@smcheetham
Morning all fellow chainees I chose Freddie it appears with Tour de France last week. I have gone for a bicycle theme this week as there are lots of those in the TDF. I have gone for a very important part of a bicycle especially if you are riding at night. That is a Reflector so I have gone for Reflektor by Arcade Fire fresh from their triumph at Glastonbury great video too. have a great week all.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winnin linky woz Kraftwerk and “Tour De France”. Da TdF iz a race wiv lotsa men in lycra on pushbikes. So for our linky I gives you “The Pushbike Song” by The Mixtures and in best Tucker tradition it be a live vershun on TOTP.

@djladylexie
Kraftwerk, Tour De France .. Ok lets fink. Well when cyclists are doin the tour de france their heart rate is very high. Kraftwerk dun a song called Elektro Kardiogramm wot is all about heart beats per minute. So we goin with the heart beat feme with Buddly Holly's Heartbeat.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Freddie ......... dus be ......... @maggietkat wiv Rocky feme, Gonna Fly Now by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. Yay! Well done Magster! Your turn next week ;)

Ere wot Freddie said bowty it: Dis is always so difficult n I liked all da linkys fer inventiveness n fer deir songs but speshully  5 coz of Buddy Holly,  2 coz I appwove of music being political n 1 coz I liked Rocky. Tuff choice but fer sentimental weasons da winner is Rocky.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 27th July 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eightieth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 180 of #lexieschain. So last time was Stella wiv Rabbit Heart (nom) by Florence and the Machine. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@freddie_bt
Gweat winner by Stella n Florence pwovides our linky. Florence da City wanted to host da start of dis year's Tour de France in order to commemorate da Centenary of Gino Bartali's birth. Bartali wuz a Florentine n a great cyclist, twice winner of da TdeF wiv da longest time gap between victories but he wuz an even greater man. During WW2 he hid a Jewish family in his house n while doin cyclin training he wud carry false id papers in his bike frame as well as messages fer the resistance network to help 1000s of Jews escape. Often interviewed by police but never arrested tho many of the network were, the work he did n risks he took only fully emerged after his death. In honour of Gino Bartali n as da TdeF is in progress our linky is Kraftwerk's celebration of da race.

@maggietkat
Well Done, Stella! Florence and the Machine played in the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2010. The Laureate was Liu Xiaobo a human rights activist who was active in the 1989 Tiannamen Square protests. Joan Baez dedicated an album to the people killed, and her song "China" expresses the loss.

@skye613
Great link Stella & glad to have you back. So " Rabbit Heart" was winning link last week. We going to stay with an animal & Heart. " Dog & Butterfly " be our choice. And it's live ... remembering Tucker!

@wotterface
Last week's brilliant winner was "Rabbit Heart" by Florence and the Machine. We thought lots about what route to go for our chain link, maybe some other baroque pop like The Divine Comedy or maybe a woodland creature related link or maybe other singers with red hair, like Florence. Then we read Florence's Wikipedia and saw that in the early days she called herself Florence Robot but then decided to drop the Robot bit, so we've chosen an early Marina and the Diamonds track "I am not a Robot". She's got a similar band name to Florence and the machine too and neither of them are robots.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winnin linky woz “Rabbit Heart” by Florence and the Machine. *finks hard* Florence was a character in The Magic Roundabout. So for my linky I gives yoo “Florence’s Housework Song” . Mum finks it should be her feem toon cos she can always find summat better to do than dusting. (Lexie: Love dis Tel!!)

@djladylexie
The machine is acchewlly a person! We didn't fink it was so but it is. Machine is Isabella Summers. Funnily enuff, we used to fink Echo was not a machine and was a real person. And it is not so! Echo is achewlly drum machine. In view of dis fact as dus go wiv Echo and the Bunnymen.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Stella ......... dus be ......... @Freddie_BT wiv Kraftwerk and Tour De France (yay). Super linky! Now is your turn ma pal.

Ere wot Stella said bowty it: Hello well here we are in Dubrovnik with fast wifi so the chain players do not have to wait until Tuesday for a result. Some great links as ever both musically and historically and very hard to chose.

Echo and the Bunnymen are one of my all time favourites so was very tempted to go with them and link number 6. However for the great detail, the topicality and a great tune I have decided that this weeks winner shall be Link number 1 Kraftwerk and Tour de France.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 20th July 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Seventy Ninth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 179 of #lexieschain. So last time was Skye wiv White Rabbit from Jefferson Airplane. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well Done, Skye! White Rabbit is about Owsley Stanley, LSD chemist. Another proponent for the use of psychedelics was Timothy Leary. No song is more iconic than "legend of the mind" by the Moody Blues. (had to put anuvva link in coz that one not working)

@freddie_bt
Credit due to Grace Slick coz in da days of da Counter Culture women in rock music were rare, rarer still were women dat wrote songs. We read dat da music wuz influenced by Miles Davis' beautiful Sketches of Spain. Miles Davis wife Betty Davis wuz also a rock singer n like Grace wrote her songs n insisted on total artistic control, to er credit she wuz outspoken n confrontational as our linky "If I'm In Luck Tonight I Might Get Picked Up" shows. Her Funk influenced Miles musical change as did Sly Stone n Hendrix who she introduced im to.

@wotterface
So, really simple this week. Last week's winner was "White Rabbit", based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. We just love Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For" with a very Alice in Wonderland video.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winning linky woz “ White Rabbit “ by Jefferson Airplane. Dis makes me fink of a fillum wot be abowt lotsa wabbits – Watership Down. So I chooses moosic from dat film “Bright Eyes” by sung Art Garfunkel (added linky as uvva one didn't work hope is right one)

@smcheetham
Morning glad to be back with a chain suggestion. We have used the rabbit connection from White Rabbit and gone to another more recent rabbit based tune. We have gone for Rabbit Heart by Florence and the Machine bit of an Alice in Wonderland style video as well. Good weeks everyone.

@djladylexie
In the Matrix movie Thomas Anderson (Neo) was shown that he was leading a false life and needs to be awakened. He is awaked by following the White Rabbit. So we followin that rabbit and as chosen a track from the soundtrack of The Matrix – Mindfields the The Prodigy! Coz drugs blow your mind!

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Skye ......... dus be ......... @smcheetham (Stella) wiv Florence and the Machine and Rabbit Heart. Super linky! Now is your turn Stella.

Ere wot Skye said bowty it: Wow, so many super links and connections. Torn between #5 & #2 but in the end there is only one winner today. #5 with the fabulous Florence Welch ! Well done all!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 13th July 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee.
