Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twenty First Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 221 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Skye wiv Tide is High from Blondie. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was Skye with a song by possibly the best New York punk band ever, Blondie. Blondie's breakthrough album was Parallel Lines and on the cover the band members were all wearing black and white. The White Stripes (like parallel lines) were also a band who wore a limited colour palette. So this week I've chosen The White Stripes with We're Going to be Friends. Because we are all Lexieschain friends.

@terenceterrier
Larst week pal Skye winned wiv da linky The Tide Is High by Blondie wot woz a hit in 1980.
When da tide is in yoo gets lotsa boys n girls at da beach paddling n swimmin n fings like surfin if dere be big waves. So I gonna go wiv a songy by da Beachboys as my linky Surfing USA (cos Syke be in da USA).

@borderpup
We did a bit of research on The Tide is High and discovered that it was written a long time ago by Jamaican producer, Duke Reid who was known as The Trojan. Trojan records was named after him and brought Jamaican music to the UK. Their first hit was 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People' by Jimmy Cliff. Here he is in a live performance from 1970.

@maggietkat
Well done with Blondie and the tide is high. That song was written by a rocksteady artist John Holt. Since Blondie covered Holt's song, I thought I would feature Holt covering "if I were a carpenter".

@djladylexie
We loves Blondie! Mum had same hair as Debbie Harry in the 80's or tried to (funnily enough she just looked like she bin dragged frew hedge backwards). One of mum favourite songs dus be Rapture which, hincidentally, was the first pop song to hit the charts wot had rap in it! The song was also covered by Grand Master Flash who is mentioned in Rapture. So we gonna give you GMF and the Furious Five wiv White Lines.

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss Skye chose a song linked to the band Atomic Kitten and sung by Blondie…this week we have found a song to link both those things together…and our choice is Black Cat by Janet Jackson….see what I did there?

@sonikebt
Well done @skye613 for winning last weeks chain with "The Tide Is High" by Blondie.  Da lyrics for the song says  "Every girl wants you to be her man.  But I'll wait my dear till it's my turn."  Errrr So my choice this week, as ably demonstrated by that feminist icon. Lisa Simpson in her cover of the Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song, is "Sisters are doing it for themselves".

An da winner as chosen by Skye be ............................Terence! Yay! Well done me pal. You choosin next week.

Ere wot Skye said: What great linky tunes this week. This is always the hardest part of the Chain. Well done all pals. But linking the tide to the waves & surfing won this pups vote! Link #2

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Twentieth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 220 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Kelso wiv Sailing on the Seven Seas from OMD. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@wotterface
Lasts week's winner was Kelso with OMD. OMD stands for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. You don't want to play orchestra instruments in the dark, you might have someone's eye out with a violin bow! You'd be much better playing in an orchestra with the lights on, like the Electric Light Orchestra - ELO. So my choice this week is ELO with Livin' Thing.

@diamondbertie
Well here goes, my entry for the chain in Sailing By the theme that announces the shipping forecast on the BBC, I can see in my minds eye graceful sailing boats and mariners turning up the volume of their radios when the theme comes on. The forecast is I imagine a life saver. Well done Kelso with your choice.

@terenceterrier
Last week canny Scot Kelso winned wiv “Sailing on the Seven Seas” by OMD. *puts on teecha’s hat* For dem furs wot dussnt know geeoggraffee da seven seas are rilly owshuns – Arktik, Antartik, Indibum, Norf n Sowf Passifik, Norf n Sowf Atlantik. Author Ya’qubi sed bak in 9 AD “whoever wants to go to China must cross seven seas”. Dat would take a long time I fink cos bak then boats only had sails n oars. So for my linky I gives yoo “Slow Boat to China” Lotsa peeps have recorded dis songy n it be mind bogglin tryin to choose which wun to use but I gives yoo da slow vershun by Lisa Minnelli.

@borderpup
Well, that clever little Greek chap did it again! Great choice of OMD. After pontificating on sailing and the sea and stuff, we decided to go with numbers and travel as our linky. So we bring you "Eight Miles High" by the Byrds - which may or may not refer to flying ;).

(The kleftiko is in the post - mebbe a bit nibbled in places!)

@sonikebt
@kelsoterrier won last week with OMD's Sailing the Seven Seas. Echo and the Bunnymen also sang about the Seven Seas. So this week we chose the slightly spooky Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen.

@maggietkat
Well done the Sailing on the Seven Seas! I imagine that when you are done sailing, you have to be hungry. So, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, self described as country-folk-rock, tells us how about "Fishing in the Dark".

@djladylexie
The seven seas .. That's a lot of seas to sail around. Guess you'd need to be a pretty good captain. Some might say you would be very sensible to learn the ways of the seas. Captain Sensible one could say. So, I gives you Captain Sensible and Happy Talk which incidentally was in the movie South Pacific, one of the seven seas.

@skye613
Kelso is so on a roll! Congrats for your pick of OMD " Sailing on the Seven Seas" Andy McCluskey was the frontman for OMD, songwriter and one of the founding members. McCluskey was the author of " Enola Gay ". After leaving OMD in 1989, he founded the group Atomic Kitten. He was the main songwriter for the female trio. " The Tide Is High " was Atomic Kittens' biggest hit in the US, but pales in comparasion to the version by Blondie.

@bunnersandharvs
Last week Kelso one wid his linky OMD's Seven Seas and well dun to you fur it too. So we wos thinking wot would we be doing if we wos sailing dem seas and we thort, hey, we'd be going all over da wurld! We said, OMD, ELO wos 'All Over the World' so you gots it, dat our linky dis weeky. Have fun choosin, K.

An da winner as chosen by Kelso dus be ............................ Skye! Yay! Well done me pal. You choosin next week.

Ere wot Kelso said: Oh man, this has been the hardest to choose yet! Some great tunes in there, No 1 is great & link made me laugh and also loved link 7, and all of them really. But the winner this week is Link 8, it educated me, it's clever and it's a great song. Love this game :-)

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 26th April 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Nineteenth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 219 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Maggie wiv Sail Away sung by Joe Cocker. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@kelsoterrier
I have to admit to never having heard of Sail Away before but it's fantastic! And such powerful lyrics. My first thoughts were Oh My Dog this is fab! I then tried to find a link to sailing songs :-/ Then it happened again and I thought Oh My Dog I've got it.....OMD! Yes that's it OMD with Sailing on the Seven Seas :-).

@terenceterrier
Larst week pal @maggietkat did win da chainy wiv da linky “Sail Away” sung by Joe Cocker. Easy Peasy to fink of a linky dis week ! I chooses “Sailing” by Rod Stewart. But for those of yoo who fink I should try harder wiv my linky I points owt dat both Joe Cocker n Rod Stewart were born wivin a year of each uvver n dey both furst became famuss in da 60’s. Dey both bin to Buck House to get awards from da Queen too. Dats enuff I fink.

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was Maggie with a song called "Sail Away". Wobbly headed lovely man David Gray also did a song called that so we've chosen our favourite song of his, "The Other Side". It's a very sad song written when he was grieving for his father but it's very beautiful.

@diamondbertie
Last week dear MaggietKat won with Sail Away I listened to it many times and I kept thinking of Rod Stewart's I am Sailing, I had no choice but to give that as my entry for this weeks Lexies Chain.

@djladylexie
Sail Away .. Well wot do you need to sail away wiv .. A boat of course!A sailboat one might say. So we are choosin a song wiv a boat in it wot dus be Rio from Duran Duran (also Simon Le Bon Bons boat name).

@skye613
So Maggie did win with a great tune from Joe Cocker " Sail Away" . My first thought was on what ? The River maybe. On his 1980 album the boss told the world he was a rocker. Duh! Didn't have to tack to figure that out.

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss Maggie chose a song by Randy Newman as her link….well, that made us think about a song that always makes us chuckle…the satirical song “Short People”…..ahem….a song close to my own heart….

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to dat Maggie fur da winning linky last week Sail Away by Joe Cocker. We dus like da idea of dreams and sailing and so we going wid an old songy wot Mum used to lkye. It by Christopher Cross and called 'Sailing'. Enjoy choosin your linky dis week, Maggie. Just remember, paradise int neva far when der noms and hugs close by. Happy week evapawdy.

@borderpup
Clever Maggie came up wiv Sail Away last week, which is about pursuing dreams that aren't quite what they seem, as the American Dream didn't apply to slaves.  We have gone for a song written during the Falklands War, which describes the revived fortunes of dockyard workers who are temporarily brought out of poverty because they have ships to build,  but that is only because of ships 'sailing away' but being sunk and others losing their lives. Not a cheerful topic, but a magnificent song! robert wyatt shipbuilding:

@sonikebt
Last week's link from @maggietkat was Sail Away by Randy Newman. From one Newman to another (Gary) Numan - Cars.

An da winner as chosen by Maggie (@maggietkat) dus be ............................ *facepalm* well well .. King of the Chain .. Kelos!! heehee. Well done me pal - annuva great win! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Maggie said: I am picking Sailing on the Sevens Seas. There was just something compelling about the tune. Amazing submissions, and it has taken me HOURS to pick!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 19th April 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Eighteenth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 218 #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Harvey wiv River of Dreams. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@terenceterrier
i woz so happy wen our pals @bunnersandharvs wun wiv River of Dreams by Billy Joel who be a pianist, singer-song writer n  composer. Sumwun else wot falls in dat category iz Elton John. Da winnin linky woz released in da 90's so I did a lookysee to find Sir Elton singing a songy wot I like from da same period. Dis week I gives you 'Sacrifice' as my linky. I best Tucker tradishun I gives yoo a live vershun to wotch n listen to.  (Lexie: ahh I dus miss Tucker, he was such a great player and friend)

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was Harvs with Billy Joel and River of Dreams. Billy sang about not knowing what he was looking for but going to the river every day to look. Maybe he should do what Lykke Li does and follow the river instead of just standing there! Maybe he'll find it then. So my choice this
week is Lykke Li with I Follow Rivers.

@maggietkat
Well done with River of Dreams. Billy Joel has a rich history to draw upon and I chose Billy as a "piano man". A contemporary of Joel's, the incredible pianist Randy Newman also has a strong catalog. My tune was written by Newman, "Sail Away", which covers Jesus and crossing waters to find dreams. Joe Cocker does an amazing job with Newman's song.

@claptonterrier
last week mr Harvey chose a song called River of Dreams…and  that reminded us of a very old song that we recently heard being performed by some very young people….we liked it so much we are picking it as our link this week…its simply called “:River” and its by Joni Mitchell…

@skye613
Great tune Harvs! Love Billy Joel. This week I share "Rapture" by Blondie. Heads shaking out there? How you gonna linky this tune you ask? Well rapture is defined as ....The carrying of a person to another place or sphere of existence. To sleep per chance to dream.

@djladylexie
Well Harvs you won last week wif Billy Joel an River of Dreams. Did you know that Billy Joel was married to Christie Brinkley who wos in some of is videos? Did you also know that Christie Brinkley is a model? Our linky dus be models. Billy Joel dun a song called State of Grace, a very famous model turned singer dus be Grace Jones. So we are goin wiv Grace Jones and Slave to the Rhythm. Plus we like this video coz she is usin hoola hoop and mum just started power hoop! Hoopla!

@sonikebt
Last weeks winner was @bunnersandharvs with Billy Joel's 'River of Dreams' which made me think about what sails on rivers - ships that's what. So I tried to think of songs about ships and remembered the marvellous 'Dignity' by Deacon Blue.

An da winner as chosed by Harvs @bunnersandharvs .............. dus be ................ Maggie (@maggietkat). Yay! Well done Maggie. You dus be choosins next week.
