Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 204 of #lexieschain. The final chainy of 2014!  I will announce the winner on New Years Day evenin 8pm on twitta. Be there for the #lexieschain awards of 2014. So let's see wot we got dis week:

@terenceterrier
Da winnin linky larst week woz “Walk Unafraid” by First Aid Kit. I had a good fink abowt dis an annuva songy we luvs sez if yoo haz hope in yor heart yoo neva walks alone n so if yoo not alone yoo can walk unafraid. Hah! So I chooses “ You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and The Pacemakers as my linky.

@maggietkat
Well done Skye!What a great duo First Aid Kit. I thought about this, and the song that keeps popping in is "You'll Never Walk Alone" as sung by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Have a good New Years!

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was First Aid Kit. If you need to use a first aid kit you might need to say to someone "take me to the hospital". The Prodigy had a song called "Take me to the hospital". So we decided to blow out the old year and the final Lexies Chain with a Prodigy track. And no Prodigy track blows the cobwebs out better than "Firestarter"!

@claptonterrier
Last week Miss Skye chose a song by our new favourite band First Aid Kit….so this week we think the Chain needs some extra attention and that calls for a fully qualified medical practitioner and so our link this week is Ann Peebles singing “Dr Love Power”….

@djladylexie
First Aid kit is swedish folk band wot we never eard of before. Course the most famousest band to come out of Sweden dus be Abba. So we gowin wiv Abba and SOS. SOS is a signal showing you need help or aid because you are in a life threatening situation.

An the winner as chosen by @skye613 dus be .... oh gawd .. is me! So I dus be choosin the first chainy winner of 2015. So is all to play for.

Ere wot Skye said: So on this the last chainy of 2014 all the links are winners! But since we must have one it is link # 5. Staying  'In Country" with Abba! Happy New Years Chainy pals!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 4th January 2015 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 203 of #lexieschain. Only one more to go and we will find out who is da Chain Champ of 2014!! So let's see wot we got dis week:

@wonderwinger
Last week the beautiful @wotterface won with REM's "What's the Frequency Kenneth?". My human went to see REM in Hyde Park, possibly that same year as Wyn's saw them at Glastonbury. Except she couldn't see them as she was surrounded by very tall people who all refused to move an inch. Worse than this they all insisted in singing along, but with the wrong words!

Anyway, REM's lead singer is Michael Stipe. Michael Stipe is the godfather to Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. Kurt Cobain's band Nirvana recorded our link, a song called "Something in the Way", which harks back to my humum's REM concert experience.

As another little connection both REM and Nirvana are from towns in America that have better known counterparts in Europe: REM being from Athens, Georgia and Nirvana being from Aberdeen, Washington.

@terenceterrier
Righty Ho ho Ho . I needs a linky to follows on from REM “What’s the Frequency Kenneth” Hmm praps I should follow Winter’s line of finking and choose a linky wot have absolutely nuffin to do wiv the previous group or da previous song. Yup dat’s da way to do it. Cos it be Crispmouse I select a songy duet wiv David Bowie n Bing Crosby “ Little Dummer Boy / Peace n Earth “ We can’t have a Crispmouse lexieschain wivout Bing Crosby who be singer famuss for his Crispmouse songs ( Umm or David Bowie sez mum).

@djladylexie
What's the Frequency Kennif? It made me fink of radio frequencies and sound tests. Did you know that if a sound has a frequency of 100,000 hz (or hertz) it means that the air passing through a reference location at is doing is at 100,000 time per second! That made me fink of Air's album 10,000 Hz Legend. So I choosin a number from their album Wonder Milky Bitch.

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss Wyn chose a song by REM from their album Monster. That record was partly recorded at Ocean Way recordings in Los Angeles….a lot of famous musicians have recorded their records there so we have chosen this one by John Mayer….”Gravity”.

@skye613
So you could say that frequencies are kinda wild. And I love this name. So maybe Kenneth needs some first aid! An REM cover from the new movie Wild! Merry Christmas chainy pals.

@bunnersandharvs
Okey so here we goes wid another clever winning linky REM, 'What's My Frequency' dat Wotter did win. Well it did get these paws thinking how can we come up wid a linky dat is about Christmas too (cos it is, you know) and, guess what? REM does release a grumpy Chirstmas Griping songy! So dat our linky dis week cos we thort it would be fun, even if dey is grumpy....

An the winner as chosen by @wotterface dus be @skye613. Yay! Well done me pal! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Wyn said: So, a surprising amount of slow songs this week, all very atmospheric. We were reluctant to go with an actual repeat of choosing REM but we couldn't resist the gorgeous First Aid Kit cover. So this weeks winner is link 5

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 28th December 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 202 of #lexieschain. Only two more to go and we will find out who is da Chain Champ of 2014!! So let's see wot we got dis week:

@terenceterrier
So I needs a linky to follow on from MASH by da Manic Street Preachers. *shuts self in darkened room wiv mum’s old 45 collekshun * Okays. Back in da dim dark past when mum went to pawties n disco’s n fings dere woz a dance called da Mash Potato. Dis gets menshuned in da The Hollies songy “ Do You Love Me “ . So I picks dis for my linky. *sits on bed paw jiving*.

@wotterface
So last weeks winner was the Manic Street Preachers with Suicide is Painless. We're going with a personal link this week. Mom went to Glastonbury, just the once and MSP were playing there, as were REM. So we're going to go with REM and What's the Frequency Kenneth? as Kenneth is Grandad's name too!

@djladylexie
MASH stands for mobile army surgical hospital. There are many people wot work in hospitals not just mobile ones. One person you will always find in hospitals is a doctor. Doctors are there to help make you feel better. So a great name for a doctor would be Doctor Feelgood! Haha then I am gowin wiv Dr Feelgood (British band of the 70's from Essex!) and their song Roxette.

@skye613
Last week the cool Maggie did win with a song from a TV show about the Korean war. That got me thinking about other shows & other wars. China Beach was one of the shows that dealt with the Vietnam war. One of the many tunes on the sound tracks was " Don't Worry Baby" . My favorite Beach Boys tune. Enjoy!

@bunnersandharvs
Well Maggie you shooor is on a good run dis year with another winning linky by Manic Street Preachers singing 'Suicide is Painless'. It gots us thinking about all des songs and linkies ova da last few weeks and we knows dat through all da protesting, anger, pain and sadness, der is only one thing dat gets us through and dat is Love. So our linky is a simple one by The Beatles - 'All You Need Is Love'. You know we all wishes fur love peace and happiness for evabody. Enjoy choosing Maggie. Thanking you, Lexie fur organising deses fur us lyke you dus.

An the winner as chosen by @maggietkat dus be @wotterface. Yay! Well done again Wyn! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Maggie said: So many choices, and all so outstanding! Beach Boys, Hollies, and Beatles are all dear to my heart. However, the REM tune "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" is the winning link. You all know I have a kitty brother Ken?

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 21st December 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and First Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 201 of #lexieschain. Last week was Terence wo won wiv Arlo Guthrie an Alice's Restaurant. Let's see wot we got dis week:

@skye613
So this week maybe taking the easy way but since " Alice's Restaurant " is one of the longest pop/rock songs, I wanted to know about some of the shortest songs. Coming in at 1:07 Queen's " Lazing on a sunday afternoon " is number 6 in shortness.

@claptonterrier
Wow,Terence chose an extraordinarily long linky last week…imagine being in the restaurant for that long..i think some of the patrons might be needing some assistance after all that….*gulp*…so we decided we should have a medical team on stand by…so this week we have chosen the song “Silver Lining” by First Aid Kit….the silver lining being that Terence won lexieschain! Yay….

@bunnersandharvs
Well Terence had a terrific linky last week wid Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant. It did remind Mum of hur brother wot loved Arlo sumthin. So our linky dis week is fur two reasons. One, Arlo did also sing a songy called da Power of Love a song also by another group called Huey Lewis and the News and they did also sing a songy called 'Back In Time' which is our linky cos dat songy wot Ter chose did take us Back In Time. Have fun chooosin, Ter.

@djladylexie
That was one long song wot you chose there Terence. Well we started finkin about length of songs and went to Guinness World Records to find out that the world's longest officiallly recorded song dus be called Zwei Jahre (two years) is 1 hour and 30 mins and 10 seconds long. It has 482 refrains (wotever them is) and 11,588 words!
Dat is my linky altho I would suggest not listenin to ole fing – but is quite nice!

@maggietkat
Well done Terence! "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is an anti-Vietnam War protest song. I thought about protest songs through the years and I remembered my favorite one. Although it was written about 1970 about a faux suicide. it is about the Korean war. I love this version by Manic Street Preachers, "Suicide Is Painless" (Theme from M*A*S*H).

@smcheetham
So where to go from Terence's winner last week. Well we have gone from Arlo Guthrie to Woody Guthrie pretty obvious way forward. This one comes from Mermaid Avenue which was the album where Billy Bragg and Wilco put music to lyrics from the Woody Guthrie Archive at the request of his family. This is my favourite from the album with vocal by Jeff Tweedy it's very haunting but very beautiful it's called One by One Have a great week all.

@wotterface
We had to do a bit of reading about Arlo Guthrie as we didn't know any of his music or anything! It is thought that Alice's Restaurant was commenting on the Vietnam war draft so we looked at songs commenting on the Vietnam War. Simple. So we discovered that All Along The Watchtower is also about that war, and of course we went with the Hendrix version.

An the winner as chosen by @terenceterrier dus be @maggietkat. Yay! Well done again Maggie! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Tel said: Wowser ! Seven linkies to judge n not one Alice Cooper amongst dem *shrugs* Anyways I haz listened to all of dem and scrootinized da werds of da linkies for clevaness. I haz made my choice *long drawn out pawse* I chooz linky number 5. I luv dis song although I haz not heard dis vershun by da Manic Street Preacher before. ( Good reserch by da winna on wot I likes cos I have used dis linky myself in da past wiv da original recordin of it )

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 14th December 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundredth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 200 of #lexieschain. Last week was White Rabbit from Jefferson Airplane. Let us see what we gots dis week:

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie! …but rushed this week…anyhow, last week the song White Rabbit was the winner….so, I have opted to go for an obvious link of songs with animals in the title…and one of our favourites is Barracuda by Heart….familiar to any household who plays Guitar Hero!!

@bunnersandharvs
So den dat Maggie wos verreee cleva wid dat winning linky last week by Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit and it gots us thinking about being solitary and going down roads and flying around in airplanes too which also gots us thinking dat if you doing all dat you almost as free as a bird so we decided to go wid Lynyrd Synyrd's Free Bird. Have fun chooosin, Maggie and we hopes evaone has a great week too.

@skye613
Maggie did win with one of my all time favorite songs " White Rabbit ". Awesome tune of my youth. I did not every record my antics in a diary thank goodness and have read " Nobody's Diary" . Have fun ma pal Maggie!

@djladylexie
White Rabbit from Jefferson Airplane who later became Jefferson Starship. Members of the band were Grace Slick and Paul Kantner nicknamed The Chrome Nun and Baron Von Tollbooth by David Crosby. Pal Kantner went on to to produce Wooden Ships with Crosby which was recorded by Crosby, Still and Nash.

@diamondbertie
Clever @maggietkat won with Jafferson Airplane - White Rabbit is a clever song that acknowledges Alice in Wonderland and the narcotics. My choice has to be The Beatles' Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds this more than hints at the effects of narcotics.

@smcheetham
Well done Maggie for your win last week. As ever from me a very simple link. I have gone for a rabbits and colour link taking me from White Rabbit to Pink Rabbits by The National who are one of my very favourites this is a live version. Enjoy and have a great week my fellow chainees.

@terenceterrier
larst week da winnin linky be “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane. Yup we likes dat one. Wowser so many different ways we could take dis linky but dis time we not following da bunny path. Corse dis songy be all abowt Alice in Wonderland. Alice n all da uvvers went to da Mad Hatter’s tea party. But da wevva at da moment is very cold n wet so dey wouldnt want to be outside - dey could have it inside in a restaurant. So my linky dis week be “Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie . Some of da younger furs probs neva heard it before. ( PS at 22 mins 30 sec Iz definitely in da running for da longest linky award).

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was Jefferson Airplane with White Rabbit. The only other Jefferson Airplane song we know is Somebody To Love. Queen did a song called the same, so that's our link this week. Queen with Somebody To Love.

An the winner as chosen by @maggietkat dus be @terenceterrier wiv Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie! Yay well done Tel! Is your turn next time.

Ere wot Maggie said: The winning link is "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. Such clever animal links, some tunes I have never heard. Pink Rabbit was quite lovely, Beatles are a love of mine, and how could you go wrong with the vocal ranges of Queen. I also love the chains that go through band members. However, I decided to 'feed my head' with the menu from Alice.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 7th December 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Ninety Ninth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 199 of #lexieschain. Last week was me wiv Solitary Man sung by Johnny Cash. Let us see what we gots dis week:

@smcheetham
Morning all its a horrible day here in St Albans bet its a lot nicer in Ibiza. Congrats Lexie for last week. very simple link from us but to a fave song from a fave album link is from Solitary Man to Lucky Man by the Verve from Urban Hymns.

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to you Lexie fur your winning linky last which wos Johnny Cash singing abowt bein a solitary man. We alsoing did see da songy before by Wotter wos also abowt a lonely crane driva so wot da dealio wid evaone bein all by demself which gots us singing Celine Dion's songy so dat our linky dis week. Hee hee.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winnin linky woz “Solitary Man” by Johnny Cash. So I goes n sits in a darkened room for inspirayshun. I finks if yoo woz solitary likes I woz sitting there yoo would be all on yor own like I woz sittin there and so I comes up wiv “All by Myself” by Celine Dion as my linky cos I woz all by myself sittin there.

@wotterface
So, Johnny Cash's solitary man can only take us in one direction - Rick Rubin. Cash had fallen out of fashion a little until the 1990's and early 2000's when he teamed up with genius producer Rick Rubin and did the so called "American" recordings. These albums allowed him to cover some contemporary tracks in a stripped down way, resulting in some brilliant tracks. Rick Rubin was heavily involved with the popularisation of hip hop and eventually worked with really diverse artists across many genres, allowing us to just pick what we think is a damn good track that he also produced...Audioslave and Cochise. Be warned, it's dirty and loud...

@maggietkat
Well done Lexi with "Solitary Man". Whenever Mum thinks about that song, she hears the original version by the composer, Neil Diamond, in her head. She recalls summer days of driving with windows down and singing along with the radio. (They called it 4-70 air conditioning, 4 windows, 70mph.) So, radio station WLS Chicago is the only link for this chain (and silly Mum memories). This is our link "White Rabbit" by the Jefferson Airplane.

@claptonterrier
Last week you had a sing which referenced being solitary…that made me think of the word solitaire….which if course is the name of a card game…..so that set me thinking about songs that reference card games and cards…..so….no, its not going to be Ace of
….but we shall instead have Bob Dylan singing Jack, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts…!! (Ed: had to put in the youtboob version as the vimeo one won't go in.)

@skye613
Lexie won last week with Johnny Cash singing a great cover of a Neil Diamond song. Neil Peart is the primary lyricist for the band Rush, although he did not write " Working Man". Simple linky this week!

An da winner as chosen by me dad ................... all day way from beefa dus be .....................................  White Rabbit! Well done Maggie me pal, you dus be choosin next week.

Ere wot Dad saided: well as I'm in beefa as Lex calls it, I thought I'd got for a song associated psychedelia, all pretty big stuff over here.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 30th November 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!
