Lexie's Chain: The Sixtieth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 60 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to me (well once again Dad did step in) to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again!

So, last week da winning linky was Marlene Dietrich wiv Lili Marleen. Let's see what da linkies was.

@marleyterrier
I see dat Lili Marleen was inspired by a Germin soldier goin off to fight in WW1 so we been finkin of other songs inspired by War. There is lots of obvious wuns but as we ave been talkin to peeple bout the Carribean this wek we haz plumped for Vietnam by Jimmy Cliff.

@patchdacat
The winning linky last week “Lili Marleen” was sung in German. So this week I choose another song in German for my linky - The Beatles and “Sie Liebt Dich”.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Last week we did hab "Lili Marlene" by Marlene Dietrich. It probably too obvious but me say for dis week anuver "Lilly" dis one by Pink Martini.

@bunnersandharvs
Oh dis time of da week iz always a brow scratcha but first of all well done too da Lexie fur da win last week! Yay! OK so den da songy wong chosen dis week is David Bowie's Changes. You ask why? Cuz dis was orginally on his album 'Hunky Dory'. Why you dus says again? Well da cover wus dune in honour of da Marlene Dietricht and well he dus look a bit like a girl (well Marlene) on da cover too. Hee hee so dat be da selekshun fur dis week!

@rettetkaninchen
My suggestion this week: David Bowie's Heros. Why? Marlene Dietrich played in her last movie together with Bowie. She was Born in in Berlin and Heros is about two lovers kissing on the Wall. The song and the album are part of Bowie's Berlin trilogy. And finally Marlene and Bowie are heros!

@i_am_fuzzy
i choose kim carnes - 'bette davis eyes' ....why? the last song was by marlene dietrich who is mentioned in madonna's 'vogue' song as is bette davis!!

@diamondbertie
I loved your last choice, a wonderful song performed by a great lady. I was, I think the year was 1963 - 64, I was a gangly 17 year old. My college had a trip to the Houses of Parliament. In the crowded lobby I saw Marlene Dietrich being shown round by Bessie Braddock. I walked over to to her and told her how much I admired her singing and her films saying that seeing her has made a good day perfect.

She was very beautiful and very gracious she treated me as though I had made her day.
I want to keep the link of this great lady and offer her version of Blowing in the Wind, I always feel dewy eyed when I hear that.

@wonderwinger

Firstly, i want to say congrats to Lexie for winning last week with Lili Marlene by Marlene Dietrich. My linky this week is Marlene On The Wall by Suzanne Vega.

Suzanne Vega had a poster of Marlene Dietrich on her bedroom wall. The song is about coping with loneliness. It describes everything the poster witnesses from the wall as Vega flits between superficial relationships but ultimately finds herself alone.

@terenceterrier
Marlene Dietrich sang winning linky last week so I start the ball rolling with another Marlene - Marlene Boyce who was a character in the comedy The Green Green Grass. So I have Tom Jones with his song “The Green Green Grass of Home” as my linky.

@kelsoterrier
Marlene Dietrich's final on-camera film appearance was a cameo role in Just A Gigolo, starring David Bowie. David Bowie also used to live in Schoneberg (which is where Marlene Dietrich was born) when trying to overcome his drug addiction and, while there, was sharing an apartment with Iggy Pop.

The style of cover for Bowie's "Hunky Dory" album was also influenced by a Marlene Dietrich photo book that Bowie took with him to the photo shoot. So I have chosen a song from this album as my link which is the excellent "Changes".

The winner of the 60 #lexieschain as chosen by ma dad .... dus be .... @wonderwinger wiv Suzanne Vega and Marlene On The Wall. Yay! Well done ma pal - second win of da season!

Anyway is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Briar!! Yay! Glad it ain't me!

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Ninth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 59 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Miriam (@rettetkaninchen) to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again!
So, last week da winning linky was Edith Piaf and Milord. Let's see what da linkies was.
@terenceterrier
Edith Piaf sang last week’s winning linky “Milord”. Another well known song of hers is “Non, je ne regrette rien”. This translates as “No, I regret nothing”. So for my linky I choose a song which conveys the same sentiments “My Way” by Ol’ Blue Eyes -  Frank Sinatra.

@patchdacat
Edith Piaf who sang last week’s winning linky had the nickname the The Little Sparrow. Another diminutive female was subsequently dubbed The Singing Budgie when she started her singing career –  Kylie Minogue . So I choose a Kylie song for my linky – “Can’t Get You Out Of my Head” .

@djladylexie
Edith Piaf was great friends with Marlene Dietrich anuvva wonderful singer wiv an amazin voice too. Milord is about a girl who falls in love with a man who don't even know she is there. She is the 'shadow' in the street. Lili Marlene is also about a girl waiting for her lover under the lamplight.

@diamondbertie
Mein Herr by Liza Minnelli from that wonderful film Cabaret. Why? Edith Piaf singing Milord was a song to a rejected lover as Mein Herr,  and Edith Piaf was a street singer discovered by the owner (I think) of Moulin Rouge. Both night club for "adults".

@bvfeyj
Last week we did hab “Milord” by Edith Piaf. Dis week me say “Anyone Who Had a Heart” by Dionne Warwick. Why? Me went round da bush for dis one (3 or 4 times, mom says, so try to keep up). Edith Piaf did also a song called “La vie en rose” she eben writed da lyrics & is her “signature” song which also sung by almost eberyone including Marlene Dietrich. Marlene Dietrich was matron ob honor at Edith Piaf’s wedding in 1952. Marlene Dietrich’s arranger was Burt Bacharach and dey did tour togever and did several albums & shows togever. Burt Bacharach did team up wif Hal David and dey wrote lots ob hit songs many written specifically for Dionne Warwick.
“Anyone Who Had a Heart” by Dionne Warwick (wif Burt Bacharach).

@wonderwinger
Last week's winning entry was Milord by Edith Piaf. This song was covered in English in 1966 by Cher. Cher is thought to have bought a plot in a Paris cemetary near the grave of Edith Piaf. My linky will be Cher's biggest selling hit Believe. A song infamous for it's auto-tuning but undeniably catchy.

@borderpup
Dis week is a bit tricky (brace yorself for tenuous and not very original linky ...)  'Milady' is a character in The Three Musketeers. Mum did rilly like da '70s film cos it was cheesy and funny, but dere have been loads of versions. Wotever, we likes a bit of swash wiv our buckle! Da new Musketeers film does have a song from Take That called "When We Were Young', so dat is our choice.

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to da Miriam @rettetkaninchen fur winning dis week. You dus be a cleva one you is! So who dus be a good linky fur dis week.... Afta much thort and discussion it has been decided dat Liza Minelli's Cabaret wus da best selection. Why? Cus da Moulin Rouge was dun performed in a cabaret and well even though Liza's life ain't shrowded in mystery (she dus have lots of sad stuff dat happened to her & still dus) and den her Mum had a rilly sad life (hey and well Judy was famous too) so dat wus da reason fur da songy dis week. Oh la la...

@kelsoterrier
Edith Piaf's song Milord is a story about a prostitute who admires a stranger she regularly sees walking by her on the street. Edith herself lived with her gran (a brothel owner) for a number of years and was looked after by the prostitutes. So for my link I am going to choose a song about a brothel performed by a group who were formed the same year that Edith Piaf died (1963) which is The House of the Rising Sun by The Animals.

The winner of the 59th #lexieschain as chosen by @rettetkaninchen .... dus be .... me!!wiv Marlene Dietrich and Lili Marlene. Sorry!!!!

Anyway is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you, me! Oh no!! Well I fink I gonna arks dad to dus it again so then is fair!
So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 26 February 2012. Sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title! Ha-haaaaa - definitely works though!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Eighth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 58 of #lexieschain.  Dis week was down to @diamondbertie to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again!

So, last week da winning linky was Sam Cooke, Where Is Your Heart. Let's see what da linkies was.

@borderpup
Well, Sam Cooke was a hugely talented singer who did meet an untimely end in a motel. Sadly, a few years later, annuver talented singer and songwriter did meet a simlar fate, and his name was Gram Parsons. Not a very plezzant link, but boaf made great music. So, we choose 'In My Hour of Darkness' by Gram, wiv Emmylou Harris (who he did discover). There issnt any videos, so here is da music wiv a picture!

@terenceterrier
My linky for this week is “Lady in Red” by Chris De Burgh. Rouge means Red in French so tenuous connection but it is nearly Valentines Day so want to dedicate my linky to my GF who has a lovely red coat.

@rettetkaninchen
Milord by Edith Piaf. Why? Edith started her career as a street singer and got discovered by the boss of Moulin Rouge. He brought her on stage and so her great success started in the famous Moulin Rouge.

@patchdacat
Since the winning linky from last week is also known as “Where is your heart” we will stick with the heart theme (Valentines Day nearly here) and choose “Anyone who had a heart” by Cilla Black.

@kelsoterrier
My choice this week is "I left my heart in San Francisco" by Tony Bennett. Why? Because it answers the question posed by the previous song "Where is your heart" and it was released around the same time as Sam Cooke sang the song in Moulin Rogue.

@bunnersandharvs
we dus be late sending dis in so we gonna go wid Whitney Houston 'My Heart is Calling' She dus be amazing woman wot did also have a sad life just like old Vincent and da Talouse. We do be howling at you, saying we will miss you Whitney.

@wonderwinger
My linky this week is "It's All Over Now" by the Rolling Stones. This song was written by Bobby Womack. The Womack Brothers were discovered on the Gospel circuit by Sam Cooke & signed by him then becoming The Valentinos. It's All Over Now was a 2nd hit for The Valentinos but it was a number 1 for The Stones.

@rosieterrier
Well - Sam Cooke sung a song called 'You were made for me'. The excellent Freddie and his Dreamers also sung a song of the same name and dis dus be our chain. We dus so love his dancing and saw on tv he sang it to Petra the dog on an early episode of Blue Peter too. Thus making it even more ace and valentiney.

@djladylexie
Ok Sam Cooke, Where Is Your Heart, Moulin Rouge … Moulin Rouge was re-made as a moosical by Baz Luhrmann wiv Kylie Minogue as da green fairy in da Absynth. Kylie also dun a song about hearts .. Two hearts in fact so dat ma linky.

@bvfeyj
Last week da winner was Where Is Your Heart by Sam Cooke, so dis week me fink we gonna stay wif da heart theme kinda. Sam Cooke ask Where Is Your Heart and Tom Petty and da HEARTbreakers say "I Need to Know"! So me suggest "I Need to Know" by Tom Petty and da Heartbreakers! Love dat beat!

The winner of the 58th  #lexieschain as chosen by @diamondbertie  .... dus be @rettetkaninchen (Miriam) wiv Edith Piaf Milord. Yay!! Well done Miriam!

Anyway is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you, Miriam!
So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 19 February 2012.

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Seventh Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 57 of #lexieschain.  Dis week was down to @bvfeyj (Tucker) to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again!
So, last week da winning linky was Don McLean wiv Vincent. Let's see what linkies we did get:

@diamondbertie
Here I am nice and early this time, I thought Vincent was a lovely choice and if I was the judge I would have chosen it. My link this week is the  Song from Moulin Rouge 1952 sung by Sam Cooke sometimes the song is known as Where is your heart. Why? Toulouse Lautrec was an artist contemporary with Van Gogh he too had a sad life this song is haunting, it comes at the end of the film.

@patchdacat
Last week the linky was Vincent by Don McLean so for this week I am choosing “American Pie” (the long version !) which is another Don McLean song.

@i_am_fuzzy
it's friday, it's five to five, it's CRACKERJACK!! *crackerjack* oh, hang on - i think i've got the wrong person - tra la la.....ahem, right don mclean sang about vincent van gogh who, when he wasn't painting himself, painted pretty pictures of sunflowers & irises so i've chosen....goo goo dolls - iris
(i don't think tucker will have any idea what crackerjack *crackerjack* is!!)

@rettetkaninchen
The Art Is Hard by Nina Kinert. Why? We had two tributes to artists in the last two weeks. With Nina Kinert's awesome song we turn to the artists view which is a lot about yearning.

@terenceterrier
Vincent by Don McLean was the linky last week. The first album by this singer was called “Tapestry”. Carole King also recorded a song “Tapestry”. So I choose another Carole King song as my linky – “You’ve Got A Friend” because all anipals will have friends if they are on Twitter & take part in #lexieschain.

@bvfeyj
Last week was “Vincent” by Don McLean. Me finks dere is lots ob great linkies for dis, but me stay wif an obvious one. Don McLean also had big hit wif “American Pie” which was kinda about da plane crash dat did kill Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J. P. Richardson “The Big Bopper”, so me suggest “Chantilly Lace” by The Big Bopper.

@bunnersandharvs
So well dun to da Tucker dis week. You dus be good at dis stuff fur shure! We dus says we go wid da Starry theme and says why not make da linky 'When you wish upon star' ? We dus thort it wus a bit chirpier dan on da songy bout Vinnie's life wot wus sad and Pinocchio did start out sort of sad but ended up happy cuz he did wish upon a star! Also and good old Louis Armstrong dus be singy winging in dis version too.

@djladylexie
Vincent Don McLean. This song is bowt Van Gogh and his struggle wiv sanity and how how he took his own life which inspired Don McLean to write dis song. Annuva artist wot was inspired to write a song abowt an artist strugglin wiv life was Peter Gabriel and his song Mercy Street dedicated to Anne Sexton, a poet wot also struggled wif her sanity an also took her own life.

@marleyterrier
our chain: it be The Painter by Neil Young. Da linky be dat Vincent mite ave been Van Gogh who paint fings.

@wonderwinger
My linky is Every Day by Buddy Holly. Don McLean's Vincent comes from the album entitled American Pie. The much covered single of the same name as the album is believed to be partly autobiographical & partly inspired by the untimely deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & JP Richardson in a plane crash, hence the lyric "the day the music died". The year after releasing Vincent, McLean himself released a cover of EveryDay.

@kelsoterrier
This week need to link to Vincent by Don McLean. Next to Mr Van Gogh the other famous Vincent that comes to my mind is Vincent Price. A song that links to Vincent Price is Thriller by Michael Jackson because he did a voice-over in this song. One of Van Gogh's most famous paintings is Sunflowers and these were Michael Jackson's favourite flower and, as a result, his Mausoleum was covered in them. For these reasons my link is Thriller by Michael Jackson.

@rosieterrier
So Vincent by Don McLean-- he also sung 'Love Hurts' which as we all remember, was the name of a tv drama starring Adam Faith. Welllllll Mr Adam Faith puts me in mind of the great Tommy Steele and so my linky do be 'Flash, Bang, Wallop'- mainly for its rousing chorus.

The winner of the 57th #lexieschain as chosen by @bvfeyj.... dus be ........... @diamondbertie wiv Where Is Your Heart by Sam Cooke. Well done Bertie! Yay!
Anyway is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you @diamondbertie.
So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 12 February 2012. Sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title! Ha-haaaaa - definitely works though!

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Sixth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 56 of #lexieschain 2012. Dis week was down to @terenceterrier to decide. So, last week da winning linky was @terenceterrier wiv Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs by Brian & Michael. Let's see wot we did get:
@rettetkaninchen
Water and Air by Cat Power. Why? There's the Cat, there is Water to put the fire of the matchstalks out and there is the opposite to a funny song.

@i_am_fuzzy
from 'matchstalk men & matchstalk cats & dogs' i link to status quo's 'pictures of matchstick men', which is also about the paintings of l.s.lowry (it's also funny to see status quo before they went 'rock'!!!)

@bvfeyj
Last week @TerenceTerrier did win (YAY!) wif “Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs” by Brian & Michael,  which was a song tribute to artist L.S.Lowry. So dis week me stay wif dat and say “Vincent” by Don McLean which be about Vincent Van Gogh who also famous artist. Besides dat it bery pretty song although kinda sad.

@wonderwinger
The single Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs was recorded at Keith Hopwood's Pluto Studios in Salford. Keith Hopwood was the rhythm  guitarist in Herman's Hermits. Herman's Hermits debut single I'm Into Something Good was written by Gerry Goffin & the wonderful Carole King. My linky will therefore be Tapestry by Carole King as in this song she paints a beautiful word picture just like Brian & Michael did with their Lowry tribute.

@diamondbertie
I have my link for the chain a real toughie this time. Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats and Dogs was a great song which is a wonderful tribute to Lowry.  After much head scratching it was Master who came up with, Tea for Two by Sarah Vaughan. Why? the tempo is almost a cha cha for both tunes.

Originally composed by Shostakovich as Tahiti Trot in 1928 {the year of his birth (Peter's)}  it has had so many versions just too numerous to mention.

@bunnersandharvs
Now we ben thanking bowt da linky woo dis week and says hey how about dem other one hit wonders Aha - Take on Me.  Dey ain't frum Manchester or nuthin like dat but we dus says, hey, wot da heck, we going wid dem cus dey was two of dem chaps in both songy wongs.

@kelsoterrier
Ok, this week need to link to Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs by Brian and Michael. Well matchsalks are more commonly called matchsticks and I think these matchstick men, cats & dogs probably get accused of starting a lot of fires if they are made of matchsticks! So they probably have to say "we didn't start the fire" a lot when pleading their innocence. For this reason my link is "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel.  I love this video with the lyrics showing the years of the events in song.

@djladylexie
Right matchstalk – well we dus call em matchsticks. An you start fires wiv matches – so if you start fires wiv matches you probably be a firestarter. So I dus go wiv Firestarter The Prodigy!

@marleyterrier
Ow Sweet It Is to be Loved By You by Marvin Gaye. Dis is because it was a song we do luvs wot did appear on the soundtrack to Ridley Scott film Matchstick Men. I fink dat be all the explaining we needs to do...

So ......... the winner of the 56th #lexieschain as chosen by @terenceterrier  ......... dus be ........... @bvfeyj(Tucker) wiv Vincent by Don McLean. Yay!!! Well done ma pal!

Well done to all pals! Is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Tucker.
So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 5 February 2012.
