Lexie's Chain: The Thirteenth Chain

Hello ma pals! Welcome to Week 13 of #Lexieschain. Annuva great week for suggeschuns! Keep em comin pals, dis be great fun!

Dis week it woz down to our pal ...Lexie (oh wait dat be me) to make da decishun. So let's see how it went! Here was da entries for dis week:

 @borderpup chose Randy Scouse Git by The Monkees. Why? Because Harry Nilsson wrote the moosical The Point wot mum did see starring Micky Dolenz who was in The Monkees and wrote dis song!

@diamondbertie chose Midnight in Moscow by Kenny Ball. Why? I think of the movie Midnight Cowboy and Kenny's song has Midnight in the title.

@Tartan_Terriers chose Harry's Game by Clannad. Why? Because Everybody's Talkin' is sung by a Harry!

@Bvjeyj chose Who Are You by The Who? Why? Because Keith Moon (da drummer ob da Who) also died in Nilsson's London flat 3 weeks after da album "Who Are You" was released. Nilsson was so upset by the death that he then sold the flat (to another member ob da Who, Pete Townsend).

@Marleyterrier chose Norwegian Wood (love this tune!) by John Lennon. Why? Nilsson spent two years wiv John Lennon on famuss "lost weekend" and we needs no excuses at all to be earin some John Lennon.

@Kelsoterrier chose Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Why? Because Monkeys
love bananas, no wait, ;-) Because both songs appealed to the disaffected youth of the time and were seminal songs of their generation. And also because Harry Nilsson and Kurt Cobain both died in 1994.

They was all brilliant and I did av ard time choosin da winner. Pfttt but in da end the winner ...... as chosen by @DJLadyLexie (aka me) and suggested by ...... @borderpup   ....... is ........ Randy Scouse Git by The Monkees!

Week 12: Everbody's Talkin' by Harry Nilsson because Mama Cass from The Mamas and the Papas died in a flat rented by Harry Nilsson.

Week 11: Before da Lovin' Spoonful John Sebastian was in a group called da Mugwumps. Also in da Mugwumps was Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty who became part of The Mamas and The Papas. Dey first hit song was California Dreamin' which duz also be bout daydreaming!

Week 10: Daydream by The Lovin' Spoonful. Whatever Lola Wants is from the broadway musical, Damn Yankees. One of the main characters in the musical is called Joe Hardy and he gets a nickname in the musical of 'Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO' (MO as in Missouri). That nickname is a reference to the real 'Shoeless Joe Jackson', the famous baseball player. The movie Field of Dreams was based on the book Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella. 'Daydream' by The Lovin' Spoonful was on the movie soundtrack.

Week 9: Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets by Della Reeves. Mustang Sally is supposedly based on Della Reeves wanting a new Mustang. The character of Mustang Sally did exactly what she pleased. The character of Lola, from the musical Damn Yankees, is another woman who gets exactly what she wants.

Week 8: Mustang Sally by The Commitments (not original). Because they was also singing Chain of Fools in dat movie and soundtrack.

Week 7: Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. Aretha like Chuck Berry is in da Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and as da song says - she is just a link in your chain!

Week 6: Johnny B.Goode by Chuck Berry. Down Under on Business as Usual album; another track on the Men At Work album is Be Good Johnny a reference to my link.

Week 5: Down Under - Men At Work (Let's Dance video is set in Australia, the land Down Under. David Bowie and Men at Work have both been involved in "sampling" scandals - Men at Work "stole" flute riff in Down Under from children's song and Vanilla Ice "stole" riff from Bowie & Mercury's Under Pressure).

Week 4: Let's Dance - David Bowie (David Bowie Let's Dance album title/track title same as Eurythmics Sweet Dreams track from Sweet Dreams album/track title and also released 1983).

Week 3: Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics (Dave Stewart produced Feargal Sharkey's (from The Undertones) solo album. He was in the Eurythmics).

Week 2: Teenage Kicks - The Undertones (John Peel was the first UK DJ to play T-Rex songs on the radio. John Peel's favourite record was Teenage Kicks).

Week 1: Ride a White Swan - T-Rex

Lexie's Chain: The Twelfth Chain

Hello ma pals! Welcome to Week 12 of #Lexieschain. Ow bout dat! 12 weeks and still goin. Keep em comin pals, dis be great fun!

Dis week it woz down to our pal Tucker to make da decishun. So let's see how it went! Here was da entries for dis week:

@Millie_Dog chose America by Razorlight. Why? Because California is in America.

@Borderpup chose Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. Why? Coz is annuva song bout California.

@kelsoterrier chose Venus by Bananarama. Why? Because Monkeys love Bananas and both songs are about beautiful women. Also, both songs (the original version by Shocking Blue in the case of Venus) topped the US Billboard chart in the late 1960's.

@bvfeyj chose Leaves That Are Green by Simon and Garfunkel. Why? California Dreamin' begins wif da line "All the leaves are brown" and da same year (1966) it was in da top 100, Simon and Garfunkel released dere album Sounds of Silence which contained Leaves That Are Green which has da line "leaves that are green turn to brown" so dey bowf talking bout leaves what do be brown! 

@diamondbertie chose San Francisco by Scott McKenzie. Why? San Francisco is in California and like California Dreamin' is a haunting song of times gone by.

@tartan_terriers chose Destination Zululand by King Kurt. Why? We thought the chain needed a bit of livening up..its a bit mellow (not that theres anythi wrong wif mellow). California dreamin is about a winters day which made us think of the Winter gardens in Blackpool where King Kurt played last year at The Rebellion UK festival. Our mama and papa didnt go, they not that crazy....anymore!!!

@DJLadyLexie chose Everbody’s Talking At Me by Harry Nilsson. Why? Mama Cass came to London to perform at da London Palladium. After her final concert she died in her sleep aged 32 in a flat in Mayfair on loan to Harry Nilsson. Dis is his most famous song an was used in da movie Midnight Cowboy.

Lexie's Chain: The Eleventh Chain

Hello ma pals! Welcome to Week 11 of #Lexieschain. Fanx to @Oz_theterrier for a great chain last week and well done ma pal for winnin for da second time!

@diamond bertie chose Dreamer by SuperTramp. Why? Reason being dream a littler dream gave me idea!

@mille_dog chose Sugar Sugar by The Archies. Why? Because this week we had Pancake Day and you put a Lovin" Spoonful (or more!) of batter mixture in the pan to make pancakes and put sugar on pancakes!

@kelsoterrier chose The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band. Why? Because The Lovin' Spoonful and Charlie Daniels Band both share the same record label and both have songs with US place names in the title - Lovin' Spoonful have a song called Nashville Cats.

@borderpup chose Woodstock by Matthew's Southern Comfort. Why? Because The Lovin' Spoonful were so inflooenshul in the 60's. The culmination of the 60's was the Woodstock Festival. John Sebastian (lead singer of The Lovin' Spoonful) was one of the acts at Woodstock, and Matthew's Southern Comfort's song was about the festival.

@marleyterrier chose 19 by Paul Hardcastle. Why? Adele also sing song called Daydream and her first album called 19.

@rettetkaninchen chose Dancing With Tears In My Eyes by Ultravox! Why? The Lovin’ Spoonful made the soundtrack for Woody Allen's movie "What's up Tiger Lily?". "Tiger Lily" was the first name of the band Ultravox!. And "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" is the totally opposite song to "Daydream" to me.

@tartan_terriers chose Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz.Why? Cos Vanessa Paradis did a cover of Daydream for a Chanel advert and Lenny Kravitz wrote and produced one of Vannessa Paradis albums.

@djladylexie chose Daydream Believer by The Monkees because they believe in daydreams too!

Lexie's Chain: The Tenth Chain

@I_Am_Fuzzy chose Copacabana by Barry Manilow *blush*. Why? The lyrics begin 'her name was Lola, she was a showgirl'. What's not to like!?

@Fizzlebear chose Mahalia  by The Bible. Why? Della Reece was discovered by Mahalia Jackson amd The Bible wrote a tribute to her called...erm, Mahalia!

@Millie_Dog chose You Really Got Me by The Kinks. Why? Because they did a song called Lola and Lola sounds like she has got some men beguiled to get whatever she wants.

@Tartan_Terriers chose Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Why? Cos our bunny was called Lola and Bright Eyes is from the film Watership down which is all about bunnies.

@Oz_Theterrier chose Daydream by The Lovin' Spoonful. Why? Whatever Lola Wants is from the broadway musical, Damn Yankees. @bvfeyj (Tucker) chose Cabaret by Liza Minnelli. Why? Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets was from da musical Damn Yankees and was written for and performed by Gwen Verdon who was married to Bob Fosse who directed Cabaret. Liza Minnelli starred and sang da title song.

@MaggieTKat chose Grapefruit Moon by Tom Waits. Why? Della covered "Whatever Lola Wants". It was also covered on a 2003 album by Soulskin. On the same album is another cover of Grapefruit Moon by Tom Waits. Waits is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Mon, March 14. so I feel this is a fitting connection.

@TheGoBros chose Jai Ho by A. R. Rahman. Why? This song is from Slumdog Millionaire. Well, we wos just lookin' for an excuse to shimmy to this one and it kinda fits :-p  heehee. No really. Whatever Lola Wants which featured the song "Whatever Lola Wants" premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival in Dec. 2007. The following year, Slumdog Millionaire premiered and Jai Ho won the Oscar for Best Original Song!

@CathyKeisha chose Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. Why? Damn Yankees about NY Yankees and song mentions them and was sung at Yankee Stadium before the World Series game.

@DjLadyLexie chose Don’t Stand So Close To Me by The Police. Why? Dolores is a Spanish name somtimes shortened to Lola or Lolita. Lolita is the name of the girl in the book of the same name by Nabokov. ‘Don’t Stand So Close To Me’ has the line ‘just like the old man in that book by Nabokov’.
