Lexie's Chain: The Forty-Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 43 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Miriam and Bunnies (@rettetkaninchen) to choose da winner. So, last week da winning link was We Gotta Get Outta This Place from Lindenberg and Burdon! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Dis week me linky is "Sie Liebt Dich" (She Loves You) by The Beatles. Why? 'Cuz last week's song was sung in German so me decided to stick wif dat and because boaf da Rolling Stones and Eric Burdon & da Animals was big in da early 60s as were da Beatles. Dey was all part ob da *British Invasion" but before dey came to US or eben made it in da UK da Beatles spended lots ob time in Hamburg, Germany playing in da clubs. Mom say it not get any better dan early Beatles and we habn't had a Beatles linky yet.

@kelsoterrier
Ok, this week all I need to do is find a link to Udo Lindenberg & Eric Burdon "Verdammt wir müssen raus aus dem Dreck / We Gotta Get Out of This Place" easy, BOL! Ok well Lindenberg sounds like Hindenburg which everyone knows was the name ov the big balloon that was involved in the disaster when it blew up in 1937 killing 35 people. A song about balloons with a German connection then led me to Nena (who were a German pop/rock band) with 99 Luftballons (later released as an English version titled 99 Red Balloons). The song is about a nuclear war resulting from the release of 99 balloons and if that happened you would definitely be saying "we gotta get out of this place" ;-) So Nena and 99 Luftballons iz my linky.

@djladylexie
Da linky I dun is is Udo Lindenberg did a song called Sonderzug nach Pankow with da music from Chatanooga Choo Choo so I pick Chatannooga Choo Choo – Andrew Sisters.

@maggietkat
Randy Newman wrote a song for Eric Burden and the Animals titled "Momma told me not to Come", released finally in 1967. Newman accompanied by Ry Cooder also recorded the song but the most famous is by the Three Dog Night.

@i_am_fuzzy
i'd got two ideas, so i was undecided whether to go for (a) alan price who was the keyboard player with 'the animals' was featured in bob dylan's 1965 documentry film 'don't look back', so i could choose a bob dylan track...OR...(b) after leaving the animals, the bass player chas chandler who plays the opening riff on (the original version of) 'we gotta get out of this place' brought jimi hendrix to london village & became his manager, so i could choose a hendrix track....mmm, what shall i choose? *DING* a + b = jimi hendrix with the bob dylan song 'all along the watchtower' !!

@borderpup
According to ma reesearch, "We Gotta Get Out of this Place" woz kept off da number one slot by The Beatles and "Help!".. Mum does reckon its about time for a song from da Fab Four!

@bunnersandharvs
So den when wee we dus think abowt dis and thawt we wuld be silly and dus go wid da Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody cus animal dus play da drums and well we jus thawt it wus funnee. Mum dus sayz we shuld be serious but pfft ta dat so we sayz animal is playing da drums and hey da Muppets is famous like dem Animals wot wrote and sung da songy last week so we dus says dey is equally famoos too! hee hee...

@terenceterrier
Linky needed to follow on from “We Gotta Get Out of this Place” by Lindenberg & Burdon. This was previously recorded by The Animals. They also had a big Number 1 hit with “House of the Rising Sun” which is a folk song from the United States. Alan Price of The Animals claimed that the song was originally a 16th century folk song about a Soho brothel and that the English emigrants took the song to America where it was adapted to its New Orleans setting. A Brothel is certainly a place you’ d want to get out of if you wandered in by mistake so I’m choosing this song as my linky. *flops down in armchair suffering from brain strain*

Da winner .. as chosen by ... Miriam ... dus be ...... oh gawd ... not again!!! It's me wiv ... Chatanooga Choo Choo - Andrew Sisters. Pfffttttt!!!I sorry!!  Miriam said "I chose it becoz Lindenberg took the melody of a funny song to transform it into a political song. He wasn't allowed to perform it in former Eastern Germany. But the people in GDR played it at home and it grew their will to run free. Nowdays the song turned to be a happy song which brings lots of fun like the original US-version".

So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... me!!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 6 November 2011. I also wants to tell you sometime they dussnt always seem to come frew, so double-check wiv me bout dat. Errr ... oh and sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heeheee.

As a look on da right to see all of da links in our chain. Is gettin longer all da time!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Forty-Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 42 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Tucker (@bvfeyj) to choose da winner. So, last week da winning link was Sympathy For The Devil by The Rolling Stones! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@terenceterrier
OK *Puts finkin cap on and furrows terrier brow in concentration* Need linky to follow on from “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones. *Sudden flash of inspiration* I shall keep with Devil theme and choose “Devil Woman” by *doffs cap* Sir Cliff Richard. There is also another theme linkin between the two tracks. “Sympathy for the Devil” was on the album “Beggars Banquet” . Beggars don’t have a lot of munny so have to get by on cheaper noms so there would be lotsa sossidges on offer at the banquet . When lil Harry wuz born (ie Cliif Richard) his Dad (Rodger Oscar Webb) wuz a manager for a catering contractor which supplied Indian Railways so there would have been lotsa sossidge noms on offer there too. So we haz a sossidge connection too. Furvermore there is a well known recipe called Devilled Sausages which brings both bits of the linky themes together *looks smug*.

@rettetkaninchen
Udo Lindenberg & Eric Burdon "Verdammt wir müssen raus aus dem Dreck / We Gotta Get Out of This Place" Why? Udo Lindenberg covered in 1978 "Sympathy for the Devil" from the Rolling Stones and " We Gotta Get Out of This Place" from the Animals on his album "Lindenbergs Rock Revue". The Animals got big in the 60ies like the Stones and both bands were pioneers of the international rock music. So was Udo Lindenberg for the German rock music. He turned 65 but still is making music and touring like the Stones. Rock never retires! Hehe, I think I won't have a chance with it but I like the German lyrics. =;X)

@rossi_dog
Sympathy For The Devil is one of the bangingest tunes ever! In hommage may I suggest 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 featuring C. Aguilera. Connection is obvious, and not at all clever, but is a great, great song and gives us a chance to look at Mick two weeks on the bounce! BOL x 1000! Love to you all you Chainsters, xxx

@maggietkat
Funny how I have been humming "Sympathy for the Devil" all week! When I think of the Stones, my mind boggles at the possibilities, then I remember one of the best covers of a Stones song, "Start Me Up". I have no thread other than it is a cover version, and I laugh so hard every time I hear it. The cut is performed by the Folksmen who may be known to some as Spinal Tap, both imaginary bands. This did not make it into the film "A Mighty Wind", but is on the soundtrack. The version I have is actually from the Unwigged and Unplugged Tour. Thank you Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Sir Christopher Guest.

@cloonfourmegan
Sympathy for the Devil opened side 2 of Get Yer Ya Yas Out by the Rolling Stones, the first live album to reach no 1 in the UK album charts and Ya Ya Toure is out playing regularly for Man City, who are currently number 1 in the premiership, and run out to their anthem Blue Moon which the Marcels (amongst other artists) took to number 1 in the US and UK charts. So the linky is Blue Moon!

@kelsoterrier
Rolling Stones are so huge my little brain struggled to cope with all the possible links to Sympathy for the Devil. Ok, here goes, Rolling Stones gather no moss but someone who did gather moss was Libertines lead singer Pete Doherty when he "hooked up" wif supermodel Kate Moss. Like Rolling Stones The Libertines are a bit ov a wild bunch and they have appeared in Rolling Stone magazine on numerous occasions. Mr Doherty is also considered to be a bit of a Devil and a lot of people "can't stand him" but others think he is misunderstood so hav sympathy for him. See wot I did there? My linky is, therefore, Can't Stand Me Now by The Libertines.

@bvfeyj
Dis week me linky is "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band. Why? "Cuz it also a song about da Debil ob course! Me mom LUBS dis song! Dat man can fiddle! "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band (live)

@i_am_fuzzy
mick jagger from the rolling stones, dueted with david bowie on (the dreadful!) 'dancing in the street' (i know it was for charity, but really! )....anyway, the rolling stones sang about sympathy for the devil - you usually have to be dead to meet the devil & been very naughty on earth, so an apt song would be bowie's 'ashes to ashes' (which is said at funerals & also, that's all that would be left of you if you met the devil.....it's quite hot in hell apparently!!)

@zoetheborder
Last week's song was "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones and wefot about how dat song was really prominent in da book by Hunter S. Thompson, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and is also a line in da movie. Unfortunately da director of da film version, Terry Gilliam, couldn't afford the $300,000 for rights to da song, so he couldn't use it. So we do choose da "Viva Las Vegas" cover by The Dead Kennedys, which dus be in da movie instead.

“No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well...maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: Tune in, freak out, get beaten.”

@borderpup
This week I choose Daydreamer by Adele, because her first album woz called 19, and this is a track from it.

@bunnersandharvs
dis week we thawt tha chainey wuld be 'wee wee hours' by Chuck Berry but dis vershun wus sing songed wid Eric Clapton and Keith Richards uf dem Rolling Stones. we dus did choose dis because well, da Stones did play wif old Eric off and on a bit on da stage and so we did say what tha heck fire and if you was having sum sympathee fur dat deevel wots it thang yoo wuld probly but up in da wee wee hours too.

@djladylexie
I has chosen The Cult wiv She Sells Sanctuary. Why? Sympathy for the devil was off of the stones album called Beggars Banquet. Beggars Banquet is also an English record label that started off life as a chain of record shops. One of da first bands wot they signed was The Cult so I chooses dis song coz of their lead singer dus av similar way of dancing to Mick Jagger on stage!

Da winner .. as chosen by ... Tucker ... dus be ...... Miriam (@rettetkaninchen) ... wiv ... We Gota Get Out Of This Place by Lindenberg & Burdon. Congratulations ma pal!

So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... Miriam!!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 30 October 2011. Lexie's Chain: The Forty-First Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 41 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Kelso (@kelsoterrier) to choose da winner. So, last week da link was Knockin On Heaven's Door by Guns N Roses! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@rettetkaninchen
Sisters of Mercy with "Temple of Love". Why? The SoM did also cover "Knockin on heavens door" in 1990. One year before GnR did their cover. SoM relased "Temple of Love" in 1983 the same year GnR got founded.

@gizmogeodog
I dus believe dat I wud like to continue da heavenly theme so my selection fur dis week be da awesome Willie Nelson singin' one of da saddest songs dat ever be written "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground." I have sent a box of tissues along wit it fur all da crying dat may be dun.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. Why? Guns N' Roses is sometimes compared to early Rolling Stones and dey cite da Stones as a major influence of dey music. In 1989 dey was da opening act for da Rolling Stones at da L.A. Coliseum and in 1994 dey released a cover of Sympathy for the Devil.

@bunnersandharvs
we dus been a thanking hard on dis linky fur knocking on heavns door - so we dus sayz da linky be 'help me make it through the night' caws dis wus sungy wung by Kris Kirstofferson who jus did happen ta be da star in da movie Billy n da Kid and da theme song in dat moovee was knock, knock, knocking on heavens door! so we dus be going wid dat one fur dis week even tho it is a bit mushy, mum says if we is goin ta heaven we probably need sum hep gettin frew da nitey nite too!!

@djladylexie
I finking bowt dis one real hard. My linky dus be Feels Like I'm In Love by Kelly Marie. Why? Well Mungo Jerry did a reggae version of Knockin On Heaven's Door. Front-man Ray Doset also writed a lot of songs for famus people includin Feels Like I'm In Love for Elvis Presley. Elvis died before he could record it but Kelly Marie recorded it and ad number one it wiv it.

@diamondbertie
Guns n Roses Knock on heavens door was tricky, then this song started buzzing in my head.Why? Knocking plays a big part in both songs Knock Three Times by Tony Orlando.

@borderpup
I choose "Love Cats" by the Cure, because Slash (who do be brilliunt guitarist in Guns 'n' Roses) has lots of cats! Not to menshun he does look pretty bonkers and so dus Mr Smith from the Cure .... I'll get my coat!

Da winner .. as chosen by  ... Kelso  ... dus be ......  Tucker ... wiv ... Sympathy For The Devil by The Rollin Stones. Congratulations ma pal!

So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... Tucker!!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 23 October 2011. Lexie's Chain: The Fortieth Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 40 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Tucker (@bvfeyj) to choose da winner. So, last week da link was You Ain't Going Nowhere  by The Byrds! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@borderpup
Dis week we choose 'Return of the Grievous Angel' by Gram Parsons, because he was a member of the Byrds when they made 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' and was responsible for their more 'country' sound. He was a huge influence on many musicians (some of them talk about him in the documentary shown on dis video) and he discovered Emmylou Harris who is also singing on this song. Mum wanted an excoos to play a Gram song, and dis is one of her favourites!

@bvfeyj
Bobby Darin, Beyond the Sea, taken from the album Epitome of Cool. Dis week me submit "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin. Why? Roger McGuinn was founding member ob da Byrds but before dat he played backup for Bobby Darin.

@rossi_dog
My mum likes the Byrds and enjoyed listening to this song. I too am a big fan of all Birds, so we picked a song by Sheryl CROW, All I wanna Do, BOL! Look forward to hearing the other suggestions this week, and may the best dog win! xxxxx

@kelsoterrier
Ok dis week I has to find a linky to You Ain't Going Nowhere by The Byrds, let me fink. Ok, da Byrds originated from LA and dere biggest hit woz a cover ov Bob Dylan's Mr Tambourine Man. Fur dis reason I gonna choose annuver Bob Dylan cover from annuver band who originate from LA. So my linky iz Knockin' on Heaven's Door by Guns N' Roses.

@i_am_fuzzy
As it's the big 4-0...huzzah! from the byrds, who clearly can't spell to slade - 'cum on feel the noize' who had many missspelt songs!!

@terenceterrier
You Ain’t Going nowhere by The Byrds was last weeks linky. That song was written by Bob Dylan as was Mr Tambourine Man which was also sung by The Byrds . My linky for the chain is the Bob Dylan version of Mr Tambourine Man.

@bunnersandharvs
we dus think dat Tucker did a supa hoopsa job last week on da seleshun... Dus make us thinky wink hard. So heer we go! we has chosun Wilson Phillips 'Release Me'. Yhey shur dus sownd a bit winey but the reason for goin wid dem wus they is dawters uf Brian Wilson wid dah Beach Boys & John n Michelle Phillips uf da Mamas and dah Papas. Dey wus all produced by dat guy wot did produce da album last week, Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son). We awso thawt dat da singy songy wus a gud transishun from 'You ain't going no where' ta 'Release Me'.

@diamondbertie
Lazy Bones by Hoagy Carmichael, also sung by Louis Armstrong and many others, Why? You aint going nowhere has the recurring line "Down in the Easy Chair" And the tune and words of Lazy Bones came to me.

@dladylexie
I gonna stick wiv da birdy feem and choose The Eagles and Desperado. Why? Well of course first fing is dat The Eagles are also a band wiv birdy name. They is also an American rock band wiv close linkies to folk and country jus like The Byrds. Bernie Leadon from The Eagles also sang at the funeral of The Byrd's guitarist Clarence White.

Da winner .. as chosen by  ... Tucker  ... dus be ......  Kelso ... wiv ... Knockin' On Heavens Door by Guns 'n' Roses!! Congratulations ma pal! Tucker said: "me not like da guy running around da stage in his unnerwear, but me lub dis song and me was surprised dat dey did a good job on it!"

So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you .... Kelos!!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 16 October 2011. Lexie's Chain: The Thirty-Ninth Chain

Hello pals.! Welcome to Week 39 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Bertie (@diamondbertie) to choose da winner. So, last week da link was Doris Day, Move Over Darling! Let's see wot ideas come in dis week:

@bunnersandharvs
we dus sayz dis week's entry fur da chainy is Marylyn Monroe's I am through with love. Dey did haf it in da movee 'Some like it hot' & dey did dus also haf it in da show 'Mad Men' both uf dem wus shows bowt love and trouble and day also dus have sexy hoomuns in it too.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Me putted me finkin' cap on and pick "You Ain't Going Nowhere" by The Byrds. Why? Move Over Darling by Doris Day was co-written specifically for her by her son Terry Melcher. Terry Melcher also produced "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" for da Byrds. Doris Day was known as "America's Sweetheart" and da Byrds maked da album "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" dat hab da song "You Ain't Going Nowhere" (which was written by Bob Dylan as was "Mr. Tambourine Man")

@terenceterrier
Choosing another female blonde singer – Blondie wiv Heart of Glass

@djladylexie
Tracey Ullman also had hit wiv Move Over Darling in 1983 when it reached number 8 in da charts in da UK.  She also dun cover of My Guy when she dun changed da title of da Madness song from My Girl. So I dus choose My Girl from Madness.

@marleyterrier
This week I is nommynatin "First We Take Manhattan" by Jennifer Warnes. Linky is dis: Bertie's Doris Day song was from a movee and a man named Jack Nitzsche was responsible for arrangin all the mooosic for dat movie. He did write a song called Lift Us Up Where We Belong which was a famus song from da movee Officer and a Gentleman and was sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker. Also, when we was finkin about the linky we was watchin the Berlin marathon on telly on Sunday and a line of the song is "First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin"....(pssst, its orignally a Leonard Cohen song)

An da winner .... as chosen by  Bertie  ... dus be ......  Tucker (@bvfeyj) wiv You Ain't Going Nowhere by The Byrds. Congratulations ma pal! So, is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you ....
