Lexie's Chain: The Tenth Chain

Hello ma pals! Welcome to Week 10 of #Lexieschain. Fanx to @marleyterrier for settin such a hard chain dis week! Woofhoo dis be such fun!

Dis week it woz down to our pal @MaggieTKat to make da decishun. So let's see how you got on! Here was da entries for dis week:

@I_Am_Fuzzy chose Copacabana by Barry Manilow *blush*. Why? The lyrics begin 'her name was Lola, she was a showgirl'. What's not to like!?

@Fizzlebear chose Mahalia  by The Bible. Why? Della Reece was discovered by Mahalia Jackson amd The Bible wrote a tribute to her called...erm, Mahalia!

@Millie_Dog chose You Really Got Me by The Kinks. Why? Because they did a song called Lola and Lola sounds like she has got some men beguiled to get whatever she wants.

@Tartan_Terriers chose Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Why? Cos our bunny was called Lola and Bright Eyes is from the film Watership down which is all about bunnies.

@Oz_Theterrier chose Daydream by The Lovin' Spoonful. Why? Whatever Lola Wants is from the broadway musical, Damn Yankees. One of the main characters in the musical is called Joe Hardy and he gets a nickname in the musical of 'Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO' (MO as in Missouri). That nickname is a reference to the real 'Shoeless Joe Jackson', the famous baseball player. The movie Field of Dreams was based on the book Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella. 'Daydream' by The Lovin' Spoonful was on the movie soundtrack and I picked it because it is about a daydreamin' boy...just like me!

@bvfeyj (Tucker) chose Cabaret by Liza Minnelli. Why? Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets was from da musical Damn Yankees and was written for and performed by Gwen Verdon who was married to Bob Fosse who directed Cabaret. Liza Minnelli starred and sang da title song.

@MaggieTKat chose Grapefruit Moon by Tom Waits. Why? Della covered "Whatever Lola Wants". It was also covered on a 2003 album by Soulskin. On the same album is another cover of Grapefruit Moon by Tom Waits. Waits is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Mon, March 14. so I feel this is a fitting connection.

@TheGoBros chose Jai Ho by A. R. Rahman. Why? This song is from Slumdog Millionaire. Well, we wos just lookin' for an excuse to shimmy to this one and it kinda fits :-p  heehee. No really. Whatever Lola Wants which featured the song "Whatever Lola Wants" premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival in Dec. 2007. The following year, Slumdog Millionaire premiered and Jai Ho won the Oscar for Best Original Song!

@CathyKeisha chose Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. Why? Damn Yankees about NY Yankees and song mentions them and was sung at Yankee Stadium before the World Series game.

@DjLadyLexie chose Don’t Stand So Close To Me by The Police. Why? Dolores is a Spanish name somtimes shortened to Lola or Lolita. Lolita is the name of the girl in the book of the same name by Nabokov. ‘Don’t Stand So Close To Me’ has the line ‘just like the old man in that book by Nabokov’.

And the winner ...... as chosen by @MaggieTKat and suggested by ...... @Oz_Theterrier ....... is ........ Daydream by The Lovin' Spoonful. Well done Oz! And dat is a second win for you ma pal!

The year: 1966
The song: Daydream

Week 5: Down Under - Men At Work (Let's Dance video is set in Australia, the land Down Under. David Bowie and Men at Work have both been involved in "sampling" scandals - Men at Work "stole" flute riff in Down Under from children's song and Vanilla Ice "stole" riff from Bowie & Mercury's Under Pressure).

Week 4: Let's Dance - David Bowie (David Bowie Let's Dance album title/track title same as Eurythmics Sweet Dreams track from Sweet Dreams album/track title and also released 1983).

  3. There are so many good connections!

I choose @Oz_Theterrier pick, 'Daydream' by The Lovin' Spoonful. Here is why:
Mom and Dad spent their wedding night in a bed and breakfast in Hannibal. One of Mom's favorite movies is Field of Dreams. The field in Dyersville, Iowa is about 45 minutes from her home town. The scene in the Minnesota town was actually filmed IN her hometown of Galena, Illinois. Gramma actually got to see Burt Lancaster and said he was just a regular guy being nice to the locals. So, based on the connections to Mom's history, Daydream is the pick.

If the winner is unabile to fill the duties placed upon him, the runner up is CathyKeisha's  Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. Mom lived in the Emipire state for 3 years, but is a Cubs fan. Dat's why the Yankees couldn't win. MOL!
