Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 204 of #lexieschain. The final chainy of 2014!  I will announce the winner on New Years Day evenin 8pm on twitta. Be there for the #lexieschain awards of 2014. So let's see wot we got dis week:

@terenceterrier
Da winnin linky larst week woz “Walk Unafraid” by First Aid Kit. I had a good fink abowt dis an annuva songy we luvs sez if yoo haz hope in yor heart yoo neva walks alone n so if yoo not alone yoo can walk unafraid. Hah! So I chooses “ You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and The Pacemakers as my linky.

@maggietkat
Well done Skye!What a great duo First Aid Kit. I thought about this, and the song that keeps popping in is "You'll Never Walk Alone" as sung by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Have a good New Years!

@wotterface
Last weeks winner was First Aid Kit. If you need to use a first aid kit you might need to say to someone "take me to the hospital". The Prodigy had a song called "Take me to the hospital". So we decided to blow out the old year and the final Lexies Chain with a Prodigy track. And no Prodigy track blows the cobwebs out better than "Firestarter"!

@claptonterrier
Last week Miss Skye chose a song by our new favourite band First Aid Kit….so this week we think the Chain needs some extra attention and that calls for a fully qualified medical practitioner and so our link this week is Ann Peebles singing “Dr Love Power”….

@djladylexie
First Aid kit is swedish folk band wot we never eard of before. Course the most famousest band to come out of Sweden dus be Abba. So we gowin wiv Abba and SOS. SOS is a signal showing you need help or aid because you are in a life threatening situation.

An the winner as chosen by @skye613 dus be .... oh gawd .. is me! So I dus be choosin the first chainy winner of 2015. So is all to play for.

Ere wot Skye said: So on this the last chainy of 2014 all the links are winners! But since we must have one it is link # 5. Staying  'In Country" with Abba! Happy New Years Chainy pals!

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! Lexie's Chain: The Hundred And Ninety Seventh Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 197 of #lexieschain. Last week was Stella wiv Hold On from Alabama Shakes! Let us see what we gots dis week:

@Wotterface
So, last weeks winner was Alabama Shakes with "Hold On". People who don't hold on are very likely to be lonely and the song we have chosen is all about being lonely. It also contains the line "I must have been working the ropes, when your hand slipped from mine" so he definitely didn't hold on. Ladies and gents of the chain, we present to you the achingly beautiful Elbow and the Philharmonic Orchestra performing "The loneliness of a tower crane driver" live at Abbey Road. *shivers up the spine*.

@terenceterrier
Larst week da winning linky woz “Hold On” by Alabama Shakes. *finks* * finks again* OK I been shakin a lot cos of all da wizz bangs so I gonna choose a linky by Shakin Stevens “Cry Just A Little Bit”.

@claptonterrier
Last week Alabama Shakes was the winner and so this week my link is songs which reference other states of the United States…and from among the very many of them we have chosen Private Idaho by the B52s….

@skye613
So last week Miss Stella did win the chain with a tune from Alabama Shakes who were formed in Athens, Alabama. Another band was also formed in Athens but this one was in Athens , Georgia... The B-52's. My fav from them is of course " Rock Lobster" Small towns ..Big successes.

@djladylexie
Alabama Shakes wiv Hold On. A song that portrays loneliness an trying to hold on is Pink in The Wall by Pink Floyd- Hey You.

An da winner as chosen by @smcheetham dus be .....................................@wotterface Wyn, Yay! Well done me pal. You dus be choosin next time.

Ere wot Stella saided: I have enjoyed doing a bit of judging this week and have given it plenty of thought a rich and varied selection of links to chose from. Interesting that  two people went for the B52s but from different angles.  I have however to be Loyal to my city of birth and do like a bit of Elbow so the winner this week is Linky 1 Elbow.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 16th November 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Ninety Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 194 of #lexieschain. Last week was Briar wiv You Or No-one from Chrissie Hynde. Let us see what we gots dis week:

@smcheetham
MOrning all well done Briar for last week. We have used Chrissie Hynde as our link for the chain for this week. Chrissie was very briefly married to Jim Kerr from Simple Minds. They have been through a number of incarnations over the years this track is from New Gold Dream an early album which contained a number of their early hits. I have chosen Glittering Prize which has a very 80s video with lots of chiseled jaws. So link is Chrissie to Jim and song Is Glittering Prize by Simple Minds.

@Wotterface
So, last weeks winner was a Chrissie Hynde song. She was in a band called The Pretenders. Lots of musicians pretend to be other people - it's called alter egos. I thought about people like David Bowie and Lady Gaga but then I thought about Damon Albarn and his band Gorillaz. Gorillaz are all animated and each character has a back story, Damon voices the singer 2D. They have many songs to choose from and lots of amazing live performances using holograms (check them out) but we chose their first song "Clint Eastwood" especially for the zombie gorillas!

@terenceterrier
Last week supermodel Briar winned wiv da linky “ You or no one” by Chrissie Hynde wot be pro Animal Rights. Annuva female singer / song writer who is very active in the animal welfare field is Maria Daines. She be a patron of Doris Banham Dog Rescue wot help pound dogs on kill lists in da UK n find dem spaces at rescues. I wouldn’t be alive today if dey hadn’t stepped in n put me in emergency boarding in kennels when my 7 days were up at da pound cos da local rescue had no space for me. So iz duty bound to pick a songy by her n I chooses “Where Do All The Angels Go”.

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie…last week Lady Briar chose a song by Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders….in a rush today the first thing I thought about Miss Hynde was that she used to be married to Jim Kerr of Simple Minds and so…we are hurriedly linking to “Waterfront” by Simple Minds…”come in, come out of the rain” they sang, how appropriate.

@skye613
Great tune Briar! I try to stay away from repeating an artist but just had to pick this one this week. First ,it has 4 super artists and second because " Love Can Build a Bridge " tells of a love that grows and " You or No One " shows that love between a man and his pup.

@maggietkat
congrats on the Chrissie Hynde tune! I know she works with dog rescues, so I thought I would choose something about the love of dogs. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded a great song about the love of a man and dog, "Mr. Bojangles".

@diamondbertie
Last linky was won by Briar @wonderwinger with You or No One sung by Chrissy Hynde who as well as talented singer was an animal activist the song is a love song. My choice is Rossini"s Cats Duet by Ann Murray, Felicity Lott and Vladimir Shakin, which is a love song with a difference. Who hasn't been woken up by cats courting?

@djladylexie
Chrissie Hynde was animal activist. She was also romantically involved wiv ay Davies from The Kinks. So we gowin wiv Animal by The Kinks!

An da winner as chosen by @wonderwinger dus be .....................................  @skye163. Yay! Well done me pal. You dus be choosin next time.

Ere wot Briar saided: My linky selection shall be no 5. All super links but I liked the love linky of this one.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 26th October 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Ninety Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 192 of #lexieschain. So last time was @wotterface wiv I'mGoing Back There Someday  sung by Gonzo from The Muppets. Let  see what we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well done with Gonzo singing "I'm going to go back there someday". Each time Mum returns home, it is a shock what has changed. So my link is what would happen if you went back and everything was different with no rhyme or reason. My song is the Pretenders with "City was Gone".

@diamondbertie
@Wotterface won last week with the Muppets song I'm Going Back There Someday, Paul Williams also wrote that, my choice is My Name is Tallulah which he also wrote.

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie….we see that last week Miss Wyn chose a song from the Muppets Movie….as we like drummers in this house that made us think of Animal, the Muppet drummer…it is said that he was modelled on Keith Moon from the Who and so this week our linky is Pinball Wizard by the Who….but to link it right back to the Muppets we have chosen the version by Elton John who made a famous appearance on the Muppets TV show…

@skye613
Great pick Wynters. So I was looking at the lyrics and reading some & the thoughts I saw were all pertaining to struggling to achieve dreams only to have those dreams fade before reaching the ultimate goal. Sam Cooke sings about those whose dreams have been shattered by their own actions.

@freddie_bt
Watchin da Muppets Statler n Waldorf wemind me of my typist, deys da owiginal gwumpy old men sittin dere moanin in da Stalls. Typist's unbearable if da wadio's on, moanin bout all da music, he likes wot he likes n dats dat. Next Saturday Statler or is he Waldorf will be in da Stalls watchin Underworld live n not moanin, dey will perform our linky COWGIRL coz it's a performance of Dubnobasswithmyheadman to mark da 20th anniversary of its release. Pawently music's jus not wot it used to be, yeah Dad wotever.

@djladylexie
Wyn's winnin song was written by Paul Williams an sung by Gonzo. Annuva member of the muppets was Kermit the frog. The french love eating frogs legs. A famous french electronic music duo wot is pawesome is Daft Punk. Daft Punk collaborated with the also pawesome Paul Williams and produced the song we dus choose wot be Touch.

@cathykeisha
I’ve listened to the winning song. Concats to @WOtterface and this came to mind. FozzieBear is playing guitar and in my choice is about another cartoon bear. I couldn’t find the version I know best, Mary Travers but this is good.

Wyn said: Some excellent choices this week but it came down to two. My Name is Tallulah from the brilliant Bugsy Malone and Sam Cooke's chain gang. We chose Sam Cooke as we like the harmonies and Mom can't hit the high notes of Tallulah. Sam Cooke was actually a song we've heard before ages ago and had forgotten about, so thanks for that link as its bought it back to us.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 12th October 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Ninetieth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 190 of #lexieschain. Remember mum dus be in Ibeefa right now so service be slightly erratic and a bit late at times ;). So last time was @skye613 wiv There Is A Light That Never Goes Out from The Smifs! Let  see what we gots dis week:

@parkerskat
Well Done Skye with There is a light that never goes out. Johnnie Marr played a Rickenbacker guitar and said that George Harrison and James Honeyman-Scott were among his influences. I went on a search for Rickenbacker guitarists.

There are so many great guys that it was hard to choose. I finally narrowed it to Steven Van Zandt with the E Street Band. Here is Bruce Springsteen and band playing "Thunder Road".

@maggietkat
Well done Skye!!!!! Love the Smiths. I got thinking about the lyrics about crashing in vehicles which is my link. That reminded me of a song Mom likes to croak out when she is nostalgic. So, from 1964 here is J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers with their one hit wonder, "Last Kiss". Pearl Jam also recorded this some and I love the warble in Eddie Vender's voice, but I prefer the simplicity and innocence in J Frank Wilson's version.

@freddit_bt
Morrisey genius, icon, narcissist but incweasinly da latter. Sewiously who insists deir autobiography be published as a Penguin Classic to rub shoulders wiv Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Homer. More gweat Manchester bands followed da Smiths includin da Stone Roses who also acquired legendary status n acclaim n rightly so “The Stone Roses” mebbe da best LP ever released. John Squire’s guitar borrows fwom Marr n Ian Brown’s frontman wuz vewy Morrisey. Our linky “I Wanna be Adored” has Reni, Mani, Squire n Brown all on top form n cud av been written by Morrisey our favwite narcissist in lighter mood.

@terenceterrier
Larst week da winning linky woz The Smiths wiv “There Is a Light that Never Goes Out” . Light dat neva goes out comes from a star. So dis week I haz “ I Am The Starlight” from da Andrew Lloyd Webber show Starlight Express.

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie….last week Miss Skye won with “There is a Light that Never Goes Out”….that sort of light will shine forever…you might say that it is eternal….and so my choice this week is KLF with “3am eternal”…

@djladylexie
Morissey all round miserable misery guts wrote a song called Heaven Knows I´m Miserable Now. Just in case we didn´t know! Well a band that suffered terribly from angst, misery and general torment,, yet their named denotes the opposite, dus be Joy Division. So our link dus be Joy Division and Love Will Tear Us Apart.

So da winner as decided by @skye613 is  .......... @terenceterrier wiv .................. I Am The Starlight from Andrew Lloyd Webber from da great moosical Starlight Express . Yay! Well done Tel ma pal. You dus be choosin next week.

Ere wot Skye said bowty it: So many great links! I have always loved " Last Kiss" and Joy Division & the Boss but I am a huge sucker for Andrew Lloyd Webber so my choice this week is # 4. Thanks to Lexie & her Mom for all their hard work. Love #Lexieschain

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 28th September 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Eighty Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 183 of #lexieschain. So last time was Freddi wiv Char Bradley and Heartaches and Pain. So let's see wots we gots dis week:

@Wotterface
So, last week was two Charles Bradley tracks. Charles started out impersonating his hero, James Brown and also performed funk music. Someone else who had studied their hero was John Frusciante. He was a massive fan of the band the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who play FUNK rock) and, when guitarist Hillel Slovak died of a drug overdose, he replaced him playing lead guitar in the band. He then went on to develop his own style and wrote new material with the band, as a solo artist and with other projects. Unfortunately he too fought his own drug demons and battled with the massive success of the band. He left and was then replaced by Josh Klinghoffer. The song we have chosen is from their most recent album from 2011, the first album Josh played on. It wasn't a single but is a lovely tribute to an old friend of the band. Brendan's Death Song...

@maggietkat
Well done Freddie! I had never heard of Bradley's label, Daptone Records. I saw that Amy Winehouse recorded Back to Black and that song mentions Donny Hathaway. One of my favorites from his solo efforts is "You've got a friend".

@diamondbertieLast winner chosen by @maggietkat was @freddie_bt with Charles Bradley and Heartaches & Pain followed by No Time forDreaming, this is a wonderful soul singer with a great voice. My choice is another soul singer with a lovely voice Sam Cooke singing Chain Gang.

@terenceterrier
Last ol’ cleva clogs Freddie wun wiv “Heartaches and Pain” performed Charles Bradley and the Menashan Street Band . Trying to do a linky wiv da name got me nowhere cos when trying to link da name I could only come up wiv Bradley Wiggins who hassnt made a record. So I goes back to da title and finks dat if you haz heartaches n pain you musta met a heartbreaker. So my linky be Dionne Warwick wiv “ Heartbreaker”.

@skye613
A beautiful painful song " Heartaches and Pain " well done Freddie. This made me think of all the music that finds it's roots in anguish. And an equal amount that is born from the beauty in the world. This is the last public appearance of Eva Cassidy. She died 2 months after performing " What a Wonderful World "

@bunnersandharvs
So we on to anudder linky from Freddie wot be so cleva wid his winna last week from Charles Bradley's Heartache and Pain. We did think about dat songy and specially cos of wot happened to Meg da BT dis week and we says dat through all the heartache and pain you gots to be strong and we knows that love is the only way. So, dat means we going with a simples linky by Des'ree 'You Gotta Be'. Why? Cos you gots ta be stronger and knows that Love will save the day. Have fun choooosy choosing da winner dis week, Freddie!

@djladylexie
We's followin da feem of fame and fortune and amazing performers. Our choice was a true performer to the end and did achieve fame and fortune. However, his life was sadly cut short by AIDS. He was the first major rock star to die from AIDS and was probably one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. We are talkin about Freddie Mercury of course. So, our linky dus be to a man who, was a consumate professional to the end, adored by millions, Queen's Radio Ga GA from Live Aid.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... Freddie ......... dus be ......... @terenceterrier wiv Dionne Warwick and Heartbreaker. Your turn next week Tel. ;)

Ere wot Freddie said bowty it: Dis is difficult. I likes all da linkys but in da end it came down to a choice between linky 4 n 6, number 6 is a sad reminder of jus wot awful fings can appen but after much deliberating we av chosen linky 4 Dionne Warwick as we av always luvd er voice.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 10th August 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Sixty First Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 161 of #lexieschain. Last week da winner was Stella wiv Ceremony by New Order. Lets see wot we gots dis week:

@WOtterface
OK, easy peasy to link this week, loads of great bands from Manchester to choose from...but no! It's too hard to choose just one great band from Manchester, so we're going with something personal to do with Manchester. Mom and Dad saw Arcade Fire at the Manchester Apollo some years ago and said it was one of the best gigs they'd ever been to. They were also blown away by the support act, this young man - Patrick Wolf with The Magic Position.

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…getting my entry in early this week…..last week Miss Stella chose a song by New Order called ceremony……New order were famously a part of the small stable of artists signed to Factory Records in Manchester….so this week our link is to the Rolling Stones song "Factory Girl".

@freddie_bt
Ceremony a great song. tho we thinks of it as Joy Division as it wuz written by Ian Curtis, Dad's favwite singer n 18/05/80 is one date he never forgets. Lots of possible linkys fer us some of em depwessin given da hints at suicide in many of Curtis' lyrics. Ceremony itself is ambiguous possibly about his disintegratin marriage or his own funeral or both. Anyways we's steerin clear of dese themes, Ian Curtis wuz literary n da last song Dad saw Joy Division perform live wuz "Atrocity Exhibition" named after a JG Ballard story. After Joy Dvision Dad's favwite band wuz The Comsat Angels who were named after a JG Ballard story. Dey wuz a fine band, Mark Kermode da BBC film critic says "they were the band Joy Division should have been". Dad saw dem a lot n knew dem kwite well, speshully Mic da drummer. Sadly dey never had da success dey shud av. Da sound wuz dark not unlike Joy Division's n wiv bleak lyrics, dey wuz fwom Sheffield. Dere are many gud songs such as "Monkey Pilot", "Independence Day n our linky "Be Brave".

@skye613
Congrats to Stella! Great link from New Order which was formed from Joy Division after Ian Curtis committed suicide. Both bands hailed from Manchester which has/had a huge musical scene. Among the influential groups that got their start there are The Smiths, Oasis, Herman's Hermits , The Chemical Brothers and Simply Red. Ahhh to be able to! " Holding Back The Years ".

@kelsoterrier
Looking at the lyrics & analysis of Ceremony there seems to be some debate about whether it's a song about a funeral or a wedding ceremony. We know that Ian Curtis committed suicide not long after the song was penned and that it was New Order's first release after the suicide and the changing of the band's name from Joy Division. What is for certain though is that the songwriter has put their heart and soul into what is a very poignant song. For this reason my link this week is Heart of Soul by The Cult. Lyrics from this song include "You got to bleed a little while you sing, Lest the words don't mean nothing" and I think this is very true and apt! Oh... and Heart of Soul was on the album entitled Ceremony!

@terenceterrier
Last week winnin linky woz Ceremony by New Order. hmm. Dis got me stumped so had to resort to research. I finds dey liked using da ol synthesizer so my linky will be da well nown toon wi one dese - da Dr Who feem toon.

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to you Stella fur dat great songy Ceremony by New Order. So dis got us thinking about things dat is in a new order means you has a new day which sumtimes means is a Brand New Me so dat is our linky, simple but true. Brand New Me by Alicia Keys.

@borderpup
To link from Ceremony by Noo Order we decided to go for somefing more upbeat (tho New Order's always good if you fancy a wallow). So, where could we go? Hmm, well a wedding is a ceremony, and so we went for Elton John wiv 'Kiss the Bride'. Can't get much more upbeat than that!

@djladylexie
Course, we all dus know that before being known as New Order, the band was Joy Division. I dus be followin a slightly macabre chain for ma song. Ma linky dus be Never Tear Us Apart by INXS where Mike Hutchence sings of how love WON'T tear them apart in complete juxtaposition to da most fabulous Joy Division song ever Love WILL Tear Us Apart sung by Ian Curtis. Boaf these great artists tragically died frew hanging themselves – one for pain, one (alledgedly) for pleasure. Showin how love can be the start and end of everyfink.

An da winner ... as chosen by  .... @smcheetham (Stella)  ...... dus be .............. @kelsoterrier wiv Heart of Soul by The Cult! Yay well done ma pal. So dat mean you dus be choosin next week Kelso.

Ere wot Stella said: Well this judging business is very tricky so many thoughtful links and so much to do with my home town Manchester. Trying to decide whether to chose my favourite link or the song I like best because that's not always the same thing.  After much thought I have gone with Linky number 5 because that is  about passion in music and that is something all of the Lexie's chain gang must have to play the game every week.  So I declare the winner to be Linky number 5 Heart of Soul by The Cult.

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) 23rd February 2014 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).
