Lexie's Chain: The Eleventh Chain

Hello ma pals! Welcome to Week 11 of #Lexieschain. Fanx to @Oz_theterrier for a great chain last week and well done ma pal for winnin for da second time!

Dis week it woz down to our pal Oz to make da decishun. So let's see how you got on! Here was da entries for dis week:

@diamond bertie chose Dreamer by SuperTramp. Why? Reason being dream a littler dream gave me idea!

@mille_dog chose Sugar Sugar by The Archies. Why? Because this week we had Pancake Day and you put a Lovin" Spoonful (or more!) of batter mixture in the pan to make pancakes and put sugar on pancakes!

@kelsoterrier chose The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band. Why? Because The Lovin' Spoonful and Charlie Daniels Band both share the same record label and both have songs with US place names in the title - Lovin' Spoonful have a song called Nashville Cats.

@borderpup chose Woodstock by Matthew's Southern Comfort. Why? Because The Lovin' Spoonful were so inflooenshul in the 60's. The culmination of the 60's was the Woodstock Festival. John Sebastian (lead singer of The Lovin' Spoonful) was one of the acts at Woodstock, and Matthew's Southern Comfort's song was about the festival.

@marleyterrier chose 19 by Paul Hardcastle. Why? Adele also sing song called Daydream and her first album called 19.

@bvfeyj (Tucker) Me pick dis week duz be "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas and The Papas. Why? Before da Lovin' Spoonful John Sebastian was in a group called da Mugwumps. Also in da Mugwumps was Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty who became part of The Mamas and The Papas. Dey first hit song was California Dreamin' which duz also be bout daydreaming!

@rettetkaninchen chose Dancing With Tears In My Eyes by Ultravox! Why? The Lovin’ Spoonful made the soundtrack for Woody Allen's movie "What's up Tiger Lily?". "Tiger Lily" was the first name of the band Ultravox!. And "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" is the totally opposite song to "Daydream" to me.

@tartan_terriers chose Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz. Why? Cos Vanessa Paradis did a cover of Daydream for a Chanel advert and Lenny Kravitz wrote and produced one of Vannessa Paradis albums.

@djladylexie chose Daydream Believer by The Monkees because they believe in daydreams too!

And the winner ...... as chosen by @Oz_theterrier and suggested by ...... @bvfeyj (aka Tucker)  ....... is ........ California Dreamin'. Well done Tucker! And dat is a second win for you too ma pal!

The year: 1965
The song: California Dreamin'
Artist: The Mamas and the Papas

Ere dus be recap of da links in our chain so far. It's not a very long chain yet but I am sure it will grow an grow:

Week 10: Daydream by The Lovin' Spoonful. Whatever Lola Wants is from the broadway musical, Damn Yankees. One of the main characters in the musical is called Joe Hardy and he gets a nickname in the musical of 'Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO' (MO as in Missouri). That nickname is a reference to the real 'Shoeless Joe Jackson', the famous baseball player. The movie Field of Dreams was based on the book Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella. 'Daydream' by The Lovin' Spoonful was on the movie soundtrack.

Week 9: Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets by Della Reeves. Mustang Sally is supposedly based on Della Reeves wanting a new Mustang. The character of Mustang Sally did exactly what she pleased. The character of Lola, from the musical Damn Yankees, is another woman who gets exactly what she wants.

Week 8: Mustang Sally by The Commitments (not original). Because they was also singing Chain of Fools in dat movie and soundtrack.

Week 7: Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. Aretha like Chuck Berry is in da Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and as da song says - she is just a link in your chain!

Week 6: Johnny B.Goode by Chuck Berry. Down Under on Business as Usual album; another track on the Men At Work album is Be Good Johnny a reference to my link.

Week 5: Down Under - Men At Work (Let's Dance video is set in Australia, the land Down Under. David Bowie and Men at Work have both been involved in "sampling" scandals - Men at Work "stole" flute riff in Down Under from children's song and Vanilla Ice "stole" riff from Bowie & Mercury's Under Pressure).

Week 4: Let's Dance - David Bowie (David Bowie Let's Dance album title/track title same as Eurythmics Sweet Dreams track from Sweet Dreams album/track title and also released 1983).

Week 3: Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics (Dave Stewart produced Feargal Sharkey's (from The Undertones) solo album. He was in the Eurythmics).

Week 2: Teenage Kicks - The Undertones (John Peel was the first UK DJ to play T-Rex songs on the radio. John Peel's favourite record was Teenage Kicks).

Week 1: Ride a White Swan - T-Rex

  1. What happened to my suggestion? I thought it be good enough to win. Did I skip the paragraph? It was:
I pick Bubblegum Factory — Redd Kross because the Lovin Spoonful were on Kama Sutra Records, which later became Buddha Records, the home of America's bubblegum music explosion in the '60s. Redd Kross plays homage to such bands as Ohio Express, Lemon Pipers, 1910 Fruitgum Company and Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus in this song.
