Lexies Chain: The Hundred and Seventy Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 175 of #lexieschain. Impawtant Note pals, mum goin into hospital on the 4th June and will be out of action for a few weeks so Lexie's Chain will have to go on hold after next week until she allowed to help me on computa again pffttt - selfish moo!!

Last week da winner was Wyn wiv God Only Knows from Beach Boys. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@maggietkat
Well done with "God Only Knows". There were 3 Wilson brothers, Brian, Dennis, and Carl. Dennis was on drums until the band split up. Dennis later starred in a movie called "Two Lane Blacktop" with costar James Taylor. Although neither musician's music was featured in the film, a wonderful love song written by Kris Kristofferson was, "Me and My Bobby McGee".

@diamondbertie
Last week @WOtterface won the chain with God Only Knows by The Beach Boys, this group also have Good Vibrations to their credit which was a Psychedelic song.
This reminded me of another boy band The Beatles which if my memory serves me were the Beach Boys inspiration. I have to think of the Beatles Psychedelic song Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, therefore this is my choice for this weeks chain.

@terenceterrier
Clever Wynn won da chainy wiv “God Only Knows” by The Beachboys. The Beachboys were formed in Hawthorne California in 1961 n this songy woz released in 1966. Annuver US group wot formed in da Swinging Sixties woz The Mamas and the Papas. I sticks wiv both da California link & da 60’s link & choose their big hit “ California Dreaming” wot woz released in 1965 as my linky.

@bunnersandharvs
So den a veree big well done to dat Wotter fur da winning linky last week by da Beach Boys 'God Only Knows'. We dus love dat songy, well Mum does and it did make us think that if someone did leave, you would feel like you was in a different world and you would be in deespar saying I can't stop thinking of him or her. So our linky is another old songy by a group called 'The Fifth Dimension and der songy 'One Less Egg to Fry'. Why? Well, you in another dimension (Mum says) cos you soooo sad and den you miss cooking dat fried egg fur dem. We did said dat if dat lady wos so sad she could cook dat egg fur us...hee hee.

Enjoy your selekshun dis week Wotter. We hopes you enjoys dis old songy and da clothes in dis videeo too.

God Only Knows, our favourite Beach Boys song, On Pet Sounds Brian Wilson broke with the constraints of the surf sound. He wanted to write his music in his way and God Only Knows is the finest example and regarded by many including Paul McCartney as a deeply moving song. It was unusual in that it included the word God in the title. Though a song about love rather than God it made us think of spiritual music, our favourite is by John Tavener perhaps the greatest composer of the late 20th Century. His "Protecting Veil" is from the Orthodox tradition and is also about love, that of the Virgin Mary providing a protecting love for the faithful. Tavener too wrote the music he wanted not what was demanded, this is a deeply religious work that extracts an intense emotional & ethereal sound from the cello.

@claptonterrier
Hi Miss Lexie..last week Miss Wyn chose “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys…..i always find these very famous songs the most difficult to get links for….we know that Pet Sounds from which the song was taken is a very influential piece of music….lots of musicians say they love it and Paul McCartney says that God Only Knows is his favourite song of all time…in which case we will repay the favour and say that our favourite music of all time is the melody from Abbey Road…featuring Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and the End….you can’t really separate the bits can you?…no,no,no…not allowed…so the Abbey Road medley is my choice this week…

p.s typis insists on saying that this bit shows why if Ringo was not the best drummer IN the Beatles he was the best drummer FOR the Beatles…*yawn*...

@borderpup
Wot a dilemma, trying to find a link wiv 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys. Music dussnt get much better than dat! When arranging the song Brian Wilson used lots of different instruments with many musicians contributing to reputedly
20 takes to produce the finished version.

Another musician who takes lots of instruments to produce many layers of sound is Tom Scholz of Boston. He is also a perfectionist like Brian Wilson and spent many hours in his basement working on his productions. Like Wilson, he was not the lead singer on our 'chain' song, their biggest hit, 'More Than a Feeling'.

@skye613
This is probably to late but wanted to send anyway. Congrats to Wyn for a great choice! Brian Wilson is one of the "greats" . He had a very hard childhood as his father beat him quite regularly . That made me think of who else had survived after enduring this type of horror. The Beach Boys followed Ike & Tina Turner on New Years Eve in 1961 at the Ritchie Valens Memorial Dance. Ike also abused Tina Turner. This is one of my favs from Tina Turner A true survivor.

@djladylexie
God Only Knows is an awesome song. Brian Wilson was one of the first pop songs to use God in the title. So we are goin wiv religious connection. There are many bands and singers who have religious lyrics in their moosic, U2, Mumford & Sons and Black Sabbarf to mention a few. We fort we look at the other side, the side of the devil, if you will. Interestingly featurin another Brian, Brian Jones, we goin wiv The Rolling Stones and Sympathy For the Devil.
